5 Flights Up (2014)
Could have been SO MUCH better!
I like Morgan Freeman & hearing him speak, but his wife... was pushing her role...over the edge. They constantly went back & forth, on what to do.
Then... it got worse & worse, as they were at opposite poles, of staying, or selling. It was a long, drawn out story, making you see it to the end, to see the outcome.
The lady realtor was a true, fake poser, to buyers & sellers, & a real snob, to get HER CUT of the listing agent for the sellers.
Not professional!
I remained to the end, & liked "parts" of it, but it was a long, drawn out, yelling match, that could've been avoided, if the participants would have seen the insanity of the story. At the end, I was glad for the outcome of the story......seeing some "sanity" , & the chaos gone. But, to me....a waste of my precious time......but....., I enjoyed Morgan Freeman's acting. Too bad he agreed to do "this" role....he's too fine of an actor to be in such a slow, annoying film you want to be over!
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service (2003)
Love this show!
Brilliant writing, cast of great, brilliant actors, & great camera angles.
I have a question....in Abby's lab, there are below ground level, arched windows.
Are those the same windows that Laverne & Shirley had in their apartment? Sure looks like them.
Death in Paradise: Murder from Above (2018)
Not the good mysteries of 1st 2 seasons
I realize the reason for the 1st inspector leaving the show (to spend more time with his young son) and....he was killed on his last episode....(director making sure he could not come back..!.)
Then the next inspector was a tad clumsy, but solved the crimes brilliatlt.
But....he went to London to solve a crime, & to find his one true love.
So, he & the London inspector traded places. Well, we see the London inspector fumbling along in the small island but nothing of the former inspector now in London.
The one on the island tries to carry the role of the former inspectors, but it lacks the personalities of the 1st 2 inspectors.
Too bad....it "was" an enjoyable "who done it show" I miss the 2nd inspector.
I hope the newest inspector finds his "niche" & the writers do better than they are now, & write better scripts, like the 1st 2 seasons. The actors are weak, forced, & overbearing......(yawn.)

Murdoch Mysteries: The Glass Ceiling (2008)
Why the episode title "The Glass Ceiling?"
I just found this series on our Roku, and gave it a look. I enjoy it. It reminds me of another English who-done-it "Rosemary & Thyme" (the two English ladies that solve crimes in England.) Murdoch is a nice, easy to watch character that has depth and intrigue. I love the early attempts Murdoch uses with forensic science with their current technology being applied to catch criminals. Very interesting. I like the references to their "new" technology and how it's accepted (or rejected by old school thinkers) It's very educational while being entertaining. You can learn science, biology, and history all at the same time while watching this show! My question is: why the title "The Glass Ceiling?" What did that refer to? Can anyone tell me? I haven't figured that out yet.
Spoiler be here: Is the episode title due to Murdoch getting news of not getting the job of Inspector (unbeknownst to him it was due to him being a "Catholic," from a staunch Protestant Head Constable) and his dreams came crashing down? [ Tsk, tsk, shame, shame on them!] There are "many" no-no's evident in the Police "activity" in 1889 that are definitely NOT allowed or tolerated now! (Drinking on the job, police brutality to get a confession, going to a suspects house to question them alone, etc. Please help if you have an idea why the title "Glass Ceiling". I like the series and plan to watch the rest of what Roku has to offer!
Oh, another question would be the opening "Riddle, or puzzle" question posed by the Inspector Brackenreid.
MC at Police Chiefs' Dinner: Gentlemen, it is my distinct honour to introduce our keynote speaker, Inspector Thomas Brackenreid. Inspector Brackenreid: Gentlemen, those of us at Police Station Number 4 of the Toronto Constabulary had never been confronted by such a puzzling crime. The victim was found in a windowless room that was locked from the inside. But that was not the most baffling part. The victim had been electrocuted; yet the room had no electricity. All that was out of the ordinary was a shattered jar, a chain, a wooden disc and some foil. It soon became apparent that the victim had been killed by a Leyden jar.
Okay, what's with the puzzle, & what did it mean, or imply? Did I miss the answer? Ha!
CSI: Miami (2002)
From Bad to Worse . . . . .
Well, when the show started I noticed right away the colors were so vivid they were not realistic. NO PLACE on earth has colors of skies, grass & water so vivid and dark! It's FAKE looking! I first thought our TV color levels needed adjusting, it was so obvious, but when the commercial came on, it was normal again. Then I noticed every week, that every show pushed the button on MORE color. I learned to overlook it to watch the show though, for a few years.
BUT, when Ryan Wolf (Jonathan Togo)got more lines, it became nauseating. He is so conceited and overbearing. He is WORSE than Caruso (or is he trying to emulate him?) It's SO obvious he thinks he's HOT STUFF!
My ONLY SPOILER is this, but it's common knowledge: It really made me angry when Jonathan (Ryan Wolf)was arrested for BEATING HIS girlfriend in 2009, IN REAL LIFE, but released after paying $50,000.00 bail! Yet he was STILL allowed to be on CSI Miami! Uh, excuse me, is "HE" above the law, and gets away with beating up a woman because he's a hot shot movie star? It's not right, or fair to his female victim! He should have done some REAL jail time, then removed from the show! There's NO JUSTICE even on CSI Miami, with their own STARS! He used to be the "only" irritation I had with the show, but now they all suck! (Except ONE: Walter Simmons/Omar Bensen Miller; he IS enjoyable and seems to be the only believable human on the show! Kudo's to Omar!)
I agree with another reviewer; Miss Calliegh does NOT look believable or professional when wearing a lab coat, (ha! Joke!) with her pumped up, pushed up boobs, low cut tops, long hair all over the place, tight clothing, and tons of makeup, lipstick always perfect, as all the other women trying to pass themselves off as POLICE or CSI specialists! GIVE ME A BREAK! I know it wouldn't garner as many viewers (....especially "males") if the shows lab rats and squints looked like serious lab professionals, looking more like scientists than hookers! I think it's a bad representation of our professional, scientific specialists that have BRAINS and good looks too. (You don't go to work looking like a hooker to PROVE you're a woman, puh-leeeze! Only in Hollywood!) I doubt women lab professionals wear spike heals, push up bras, and tons of makeup to the labs each day. But, who would watch this unbelievable show if sex wasn't pushed, over and over, and over? (it's all about Ratings, sponsors and viewers!)
I also agree with many other reviewers saying there is NO teamwork noticeable on this show; they're all vying to outdo each other, waiting to deliver their unbelievable lines! The other CSI's work as a team and care for each other, why can't Miami? The other CSI's have better plots and stories too. What's with Miami; the writers out of ideas? Sure seams that way, the scripts are contrived and uninteresting, and D.O.A! Bury it, it stinks!
So "We're" DONE with the Miami version; we just watched "Friendly Fire" and it was the final "BURN" for us! My husband and I kept looking at each other, commenting on dumb lines, bad acting, "over"-acting, and just unbelievable acting, or not acting enough! Weak story lines, same old stuff, it's time to end this pain and suffering and put it out of it's MISERY! An autopsy needs to be done on CSI Miami, to see what caused it's death! The clues are bad writing, directing, and over-bearing acting! Farewell CSI Miami, we're gone......You're dead to us.......
Holiday Affair (1996)
Warm & Fuzzy Holiday Flick
(I don't think I have any spoilers, just comments.....) Yes, it's true, this is not a super quality romantic comedy, and at times David James Elliott's character comes across as a harmless stalker, but cute enough to pull it off. "But" if you're a fan of David James Elliott (Harm on Jag), as "I" am, you'll endure the lack of a strong storyline, a few weak moments, but "still" an enjoyable Holiday Film! Ha! In spite of all these comments, I "STILL" bought the movie (on sale!) Being a fan of "Harm", I have enjoyed all his work. This film is not very different from all the other so-called Holiday films that come out in Dec. (or have in the past that are recycled!) Mild entertainment, no Oscar hopefuls, just cute, heart warming stories at Christmas time to make us feel better about people, ourselves, life, and to re-awaken the warm & fuzzy Holiday Spirit of Christmas. I "do" recommend this movie, in spite of my comments, but watch it "at" the Holiday time, for it to be at it's best.
The Weather Man (2005)
The WORST Nicolas Cage Movie Ever! VERY DISAPPOINTING!
My husband and I both felt this movie was awful! We felt the vulgar language said over and over again was not necessary for the storyline. There was no storyline worth waiting for at all! We actually hated it! We could not believe two great actors, which are favorites of ours; Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine, would agree to do such a disgusting, boring, stupid dysfunctional family type of film. It was unbelievably awful. When it got to the child molesting scene we had to turn it off at that point. We do NOT find it "entertaining" to watch that type of artistic crap. Our own son was molested by a pervert just released from prison and we do NOT think it is appropriate to show such topics as these as "entertainment." Shame on all the producers, writers, and directors for putting this film out on the market. We just wish we could get our rental money back for such a bad-taste film.
We say it left a very bad taste in our mouths and feel the need for something to sanitize it again! (Too bad there isn't a "brain" cleaner to remove the disgusting "clog" in our brains!) Don't waste your money on a poorly acted, poorly written, and disappointing piece of crap. Nicolas Cage has done some wonderful, redeeming, heart warming films that made us feel good about human nature in an ugly, evil, perverted world. ("Family Man", "It Could Happen To You", and "Trapped in Paradise.") Too bad he had to take a giant leap to the dark side on this one, and change the minds of faithful fans to give up on his ability to choose descent roles and stories with good stories to tell, with quality writing. We do NOT understand how other's can say it is a brilliant film they actually enjoyed. Where have good morals and decency gone?!
