It's not perfect!
1 August 2018
Tonight I choose to check this film out. Honestly, anything A24 releases is always good! That said, I really liked this film. However, it's not perfect. I really didn't understand the main characters initial motivation for why he was doing, what he was doing, girl aside. His thirsty choices didn't really make much sense to me.

However, on the technical aspect of the movie. I really loved the flow of the film and the editing. Also, the soundtrack is sweet! the cinematography, colour, and acting was spot on. This is a film I would still recommend and would give it another watch even with the minor flaws. Because it's entertaining and has a real summer nostalgic, crime, a dark coming of age feel to it.

I'd give this a 7 out of 10.

Just finished watching this film, and I must say. I'm really happy I did!

The story line was something I wasn't expecting which was good. The only thing I didn't care for in the beginning, was the children. Only because, I'm always annoyed when they put children in a movie that make stupid decisions. In order, to annoy the viewer. Like going after a stuffed doll when that should be the last thing on your mind.

I think they could have gone without the children in this film altogether. However, after fully getting the grasp of the film and plot. I wasn't that bothered. Overall, the film has minor flaws. But, still a REALLY GOOD watch!

I gave it an 8/10 because I was totally shocked midway through!

Black Mirror: San Junipero (2016)
Season 3, Episode 4

One of the most beautiful pieces of art I seen this year.

Absolutely blow away by the crafting, writing, and visual pallet of this episode. I must say, I only began watching black mirror literally 2 weeks ago and I've been really pleased with the clever and creative way all the stories unravel and revolve around tech. However, this episode brought emotion, inspiration, and discovery in a way I couldn't have imagined.

Really loved seeing the stylizing of the decades. I mean everything was used perfectly, both women were amazing. Although, Charlie Brooker the writer, is a true maestro. The cinematography was that of a modern nostalgic masterpiece. Truly, one of the most beautiful pieces of art I've seen this year.

An inspiring and motivational treat, wrapped in a tale of bad decisions and tragic events.

Really awesome doc here, me and a friend watched this the other night and I was blown away. The narration and structure are phenomenal in this piece, a very close to heart tale and the context in which it all unravels is remarkable none the less. I'm so glad I watched this doc, which I wouldn't have expected could be so personally inspiring and motivating regarding how much knowledge is really garnered from reading. I mean, of course, I know reading is important and I do my share of knowledgeable reading each day. But, I'm simply referring to those that really read as a fun activity and not just because you have to read for the moment. I'd be lying to say I'm not guilty of that sometimes, but after viewing this doc, I'm extremely inspired to do way more. I understand my review is not as detailed, or as intricate, regarding the context of the overall film. However, I wanted to reflect and share on the personal inspiration I was able to take from it.

The film that could have been.
7 February 2016
Really disappointed here, the trailer is hook and bait. The film greatly suffers from poor direction. This is sad because the overall concept would have worked if it wasn't so poorly executed. For example, theirs no mood setting music throughout the whole film, especially in very pivotal moments when it's direly needed. The cinematography in this film has its shining moments, but sadly a great deal of it is lost when accompanied by images that are extremely to bright for the dark tone and subject of the film. Also, the films very light weight on B- roll, which in some cases are great for some films, but not for this one. The acting was very sub par, only 2 - 3 actors were good and only at certain moments. I so wanted to love this movie and was stoked when I stumbled across the trailer that I immediately hunted it down for preview. Only to be heart broken and writing this review about a film that could have been. This film is a 1 out of 10 in my book.

Brilliant

If your looking for a cop show that is well crafted, well acted and well written. Then you found your perfect dream, this show is absolutely wonderful. The story progression & cinematography is superb. A far cry from those lame shows like SVU or Chicago PD, this is the type of show they want to be.

I can't believe I'm only stumbling onto it now, but more than happy to have been able to go back and watch all the seasons. The show's that good, something needed in the crime TV genre. I haven't felt this much realism or intriguing grit since NYPD Blue, and still I would come back to this one every time.

I'm seriously stoked to see what season 4 has in store, whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great! Once again if you're looking for something entertaining but yet, serious and well-crafted then this is it!

The story is brilliant, the cinematography not so much.

I've been following the show since its premiere and was blown away by the concept. However, the cinematography really holds back the potential of what the show can be. Every time I watch, it feels like I'm watching a TV commercial.

The seriousness and reality get's lost in the overly bright color correction and typical TV lensing. I can't help but imagine if the show's color treating was a bit more desaturated to give it a more serious tone, and would be epic for this show.

The perfect example of great cinematography and tone would be AMC'S The Killing, or better yet ABC'S recent show American Crime. In which both were lens beautifully with nice wide shots and detailed focus on painting a visually stunning and realistic world.

Overall I do love this show but feel it falls short on that note which is a bit disappointing for me, but let's see how the season progresses maybe the shooting style & tone will progress with popularity.
