Just Shoot Me! (1997)
Epitome of the '90's
I love this show, not only for it's nostalgic qualities (I grew up in the'90's) but also for some really good acting. George Segal is a fantastic draw, Enrico Colatoni, Laura San Giacomo, and notably Brian Posehn are fun to watch. There are numerous notable guest stars as well, including David Cross, Joe Rogan, Ray Liotta, and Kelly Ripa. Of course, David Spade was in his prime during this show and it's great to watch him do what he does. However, amongst all of those stars, it is Wendi Malick who truly stands out to me. Her performance of a post-fame model is phenomenal! She is whitty, alluring when necessary, vulnerable in simultaneously ridiculous and relatable ways. She makes the story real, at the same time taking the comedy to the next level. Few actors can do that and stay entertaining. I love her!
*Sidenote: her character Victoria Chase on Hot In Cleveland, is pointedly referencing this Just Shoot Me! Character, and she pulls that of flawlessly as well! If you enjoyed JSM!, take a watch at HIC as well!
Burnistoun (2009)
Modern Vaudeville Style
Definitely speaks to an older comedic appreciation, but with modern content. Don't get me wrong, I love SNL, but often their sketches are too long. These sketches are shorter, faster, and have hilarious punch lines. This show is a specific style taste and not for everyone, but I loved it! Truly funny one liners and lots of physical comedy are my style. *just a side note: If you have a hard time with non American accents, it may take a little while to adjust to this.
Brothers of the Frontier (1996)
A Good Family Film
This is a typical Disney- style family matinee movie. There is nothing inventive or newsworthy about this movie, but it is a good watch. It is simple, honest, and obviously made for families with younger viewers. I enjoyed it in the background while doing chores.
London Irish (2013)
Earthshattering? No, but funny? Yes!
While the plot of a group of friends hanging out and drinking is nothing new, this show literally made me laugh out loud in every episode. I found the characters and jokes very funny. Yes, the Irish stereotype is there, and yes the characters are exaggerated for comic effect, but that is what comedy is - exaggerated real life. I enjoyed it, and was sorry the was only 1 season.
