So bad, it's good.
24 March 2024
Well, at first, I struggled to stay engaged due to the seemingly subpar acting and script. However, I persevered and was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the film.

Adapting Lovecraft's stories is no easy feat, especially on a limited budget. Despite its challenges, the film managed to deliver some impressive special effects. The ending felt authentically Lovecraftian, adding a satisfying touch to the narrative.

As a fan of Lovecraft's work, I appreciate the efforts put into trying to visually capture his cosmic horrors. Kudos to the filmmakers for their ambitious undertaking.

7/10.

The Highwayman (II) (2022)

A highwayman, not the highwayman.
10 May 2022
I like this genre of movie, tight action, swashbuckling high links, horse chases, heroic endeavours... Oh wait, there is none of that in this movie. Okay, what you do get is a lame horse, so to speak. I'm not sure if it is the cast or the bad writing, but this movie doesn't feel authentic. The story is so so, if not a little predictable and has a villain that seems to be from another movie altogether.

Sure, I understand low budget constraints so 5/5 for that, but 4/10 is my score.

One thing I noted was the British actors playing the roles in a British story, glad it was not completely ruined by, shall we say, other actors from across the pond. 😃

Conclusion: Not bad and not good; mediocre.

Moonfall (2022)

Crazy movie...
6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Where to start. A CGI, questionable acting, weird story disaster movie.

The start of the movie is the same as most others of this genre, something bad is discovered and plans are drawn up by the disparate characters to save the day, blah blah.

Then, about halfway through, you learn that the moon IS some sort of machine (hinted at by the fake English doctor character) built by aliens (ancient human ancestors) and is at war with a self-aware AI also built by the same aliens... What!?

Moon conspiracy theorists will love this story.

Overall, the movie is okay, fast-paced, crazy, but okay.., with just a tad too much CGI.

Maybe Mr Emmerich should put away his action movie hat and try something with substance and meaning.

A comment of life in quarantine...
8 November 2020
Darkness in Tenement 45 is set in the early 1950s cold war era. It is a little slow but well worth staying for because it's a good story put together really well. There is fear and tension brought on by the situation of trying to survive quarantine and each other.

It kept me engaged all the way through, I would recommend this movie. 9/10

Not very good...
4 June 2020
Well, this has all the production values of a good modern motion picture, it even has that blue/green tint that most movies these days seem to have. The one thing that lets this whole thing down, is the acting. I guess they spent ALL the budget on special effects, costumes and monster prosthetics. The characters are one dimensional and in reality quite forgettable... I guess the director thought any old acting would do as the special effects would cover it; nah, not good enough.

I give this 2/10 it's not very good, but, if you like modern fantasy movies, you may like this effort.

Very disappointing.
29 May 2020
This is a disappointing and clichéd effort. It reminds me of "The Blair Witch Project" with hand-held camera footage and an incoherent script that seems to be put together by a group of college students; a 20 year old format that was good for a few movies.

This movie gets VERY tedious very quickly, there is too much arguing among themselves to the point of it being annoying. The characters are flat and poorly defined, I didn't care if they lived or died or if they got through to a safe and/or happy ending. At 1 hour and 47 minutes, it's an unremarkable, forgettable movie.

I give this 2/10, but if you like this type of movie, you may enjoy it. :)

Made for TV rubbish...
1 May 2020
If you are a fan of bad movies made for TV, this will do you fine. Personally I found it a struggle to stay to the end. The 1 dimensional characters, bad script and seriously cheap CGI make this movie a turkey for sure.

I give this effort 1/10.

Pretty good...
7 April 2020
For a low budget movie $11,000 (estimated), this one is pretty good. The cast all give pretty solid performances and one is enthralled enough to see how it ends.

I really don't know why they have used the Elder Sign (from the Cthulhu Mythos of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft) as the team logo... very odd.

This is not a horror really, but a worthwhile indie sci-fi movie... give it a go.

Tedious and unexciting...
20 February 2020
Described as an " Action, Adventure, Comedy"... well, there was no real action and no adventure to speak of and as for the comedy; I guess one would have to be from the USA to appreciate it.

For me, this was a very tedious and quite an unexciting movie. I only watched it to the end to see if it got any better, but no, it stayed the same all the way through. If this was supposed to be a parody, they missed the mark. There are other reviews that trash the plot and acting; I agree with them.

I give this movie 1/10 Watch it if you want, but you'll be thinking, why did I bother...

An excellent movie!
13 January 2020
This is definitely one to watch. Great story, well acted and full of action. Imagine being trans-human with abilities you can't normally do.

Stem, the A.I, reminds me of HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey in the way that he talks and sounds just like him.

I gave this 10/10 because it is an excellent movie.

Nothing new here...
7 January 2020
Exile: A Star Wars Fan Film (2016) written, produced (executive producer), directed and starring Noel Braham... says it all really. I was hoping for something different, but no... There's nothing new here. Production wise, it was okay. The script was plausible, but a little over acted and not much to write home about; it's just another "fan film". And the obviously plastic light sabers, well...

I gave this 2/10 because I like Star Wars, but that's it. If there are anymore of these, I won't bother with them.

NOT a horror movie... Was it worth watching... NO!
27 December 2019
Steven M Smith certainly likes to see his name in the credits, written, produced, directed... and then some. That's the trouble with a "one man show", nobody told him it was a BAD idea...

The movie has this in the description, "the event is run by a group of terrible amateur dramatic actors"... NO, that is the true description of the production crew and actors. The story (if you can call it that) is stupidly incoherent, there is nothing felt for the (so called) characters... Is it some revenge thing, a jealous mad girl thing; who knows...

If you want to waste your time with this POOR effort, go ahead. I for one thought it was the worst movie I have seen in a long time, and I have seen a few this year...

Not worth watching.
20 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, it started out looking good, but then it became just another mediocre scare fest. 95% of this effort is photographed in the dark, with an Orc type cryptid revealed at the end. It is not worth watching, there's nothing original here, just 5 guys running about (in the night) like headless chickens... 1 out of 10.

Poorly executed; that's not a pun.
5 December 2019
I really tried to like this movie, but to be honest, it is really bad. The bad acting makes for flat personalities to the characters. The poor dialogue and a weak story from the writers, only makes this movie worse. Auto, the robot character, is the only good thing in this movie... Garo Setian's Sci-Fi Thriller/Comedy is not worth your time, but, you may like it...

A rambling nonsense...
4 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Lots of bad reviews for this one, so I thought I'd give it a go... It is like some weird incoherent dream that has zero meaning and fulfills no expectations... A rambling nonsense but it has plenty of gore.

(spoiler) One scene, I thought, is her head going to explode; it did... but there was no apparent reason, maybe the director wanted to show yet more gore.

If you like gore movies, this might do the job; doubt it though. As a sci-fi piece it fails big time, leaving one with a sense of, "what was that all about".

100% total rubbish/garbage...
28 August 2019
It was a struggle to watch this effort with clear objectivity. So, what's wrong with it? Well, take a beloved 1960s childrens show and subvert it into a mediocre (I'm being generous), poorly acted slasher/gore fest. It is described as a dark comedy, sci-fi, horror film, that's as may be... but no, it is poorly conceived and executed. How this movie got positive reviews on its release is beyond me. It is clear that we are at the bottom of the barrel, with regard to this type of movie. Just scrape it out and throw it in the garbage...

An odd sci-fi movie...
19 June 2019
Produced in Canada on a budget of $5,000,000 CAD, I thought this movie was quite good, a little slow perhaps with a story that seemed to meander along. It involves a handful of people trapped on an alien spacecraft, they have to work together in order to get home. The story actually revolves around one character though, to be honest... There's some horror, trauma and plenty of mind games perpetrated by the aliens, that feed off the emotions of the trapped humans. The acting was ok, not brilliant, not bad, I've seen worse. The plot was different, not the usual Hollywood seen it before type thing.

If you want to watch something different, give this a go, it is not a dead loss...

Dunno why some of the other reviewers gave this movie a hard time. I guess they were expecting a mega-blockbuster action sci-fi thing from Hollywood...

Deadly Playthings... worst movie I've seen in years.
12 May 2019
I must say that the title of this movie suggested something good, but then when I watched it. I was astonished by the extraordinarily terrible acting, the completely poor script, the inept direction and the overall feel. It has all the characteristics of an elementary school play with no horror at all, just a sort of mildly creepy story.

The in-car scenes are shot inside a stationary car, but we are meant to believe that the car is going along the road.

I was so tempted to stop watching after 10 minutes or so, but stayed until the end, hoping it would get better, but no, it is a movie only worth mentioning due to it being the worst effort I have watched in many years.

The IMDb rating is 1.9/10 I would give this 0.9/10 as it clearly had a very tiny or zero budget.

A movie fail
18 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie sort of starts out okay, but quickly becomes a piece of rubbish. Apart from the really bad acting and a completely obvious CG hornet, the movie suddenly veers off into a question/answer session with an unrelated interrogation of one of the main characters by some government agent. There is no alien invasion to speak of, just a vague notion that something is up with the local people and that there is a device in the sky.

The movie description, "When an alien race invades and begins to brainwash humans to carry out acts of destruction, the rest of humanity must rely on an untested giant robot to save the Earth.", is totally not related to this movie!

The Saint (2017 TV Movie)
10/10
Stylish and fun.
20 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good version of the Leslie Charteris character, The Saint. Some other idiots on IMDb have given this a terrible review, but I think this movie was well written, stylish, fun and full of the feel of the 60's version, executed to the fullest on a moderate budget. Adam Rayner as Simon Templar is a very worthy choice. If any Simon Templar movie is rubbish, it would be that appalling effort with Val Kilmer.

I give this (TV) movie 10/10, it was a shame that a series was never made with this cast.
