French Girl (2024)
Wow. This was great.
I was not expecting a lot and didn't even know this was released in theatres but it seems marketing budget was non existent. Anyhow rented on Cineplex, and I was politely surprised. Great acting, funny scenes, Quebec City, some Canadian quirks funny to Canadians but a happy and funny love story.
Definitely doesn't deserve the rating it got. As a Torontonian, bravo to Quebec tax credits and telefilm for its creation and everything was well done from editing, the some culinary delights. Outside of the American actors I do know, the Canadian actors did really well.
Scenes of Quebec City make me want to go back so thanks.
Bravo famille.
Goles en contra (2022)
Very well done! Must see even if you're not a football fan
First I want to comment about the 2/10 review about this being difficult for international audience. I'm not sure what planet that reviewer is on but I find it disgraceful that he thinks the viewer is uneducated and unable to determine the different between footage, film scenes and historical context.
What's there go not understand. Soccer teams owned by cartels in Cali and Medellín. Club president's getting gunned down and one coach, one president decide it's time to get a team going with only "Colombians" that represents the people and the country.
Saw Escobar own goal. Tragic for a good man and team.
Paradise Highway (2022)
OK what is wrong with the reviewers?
Anyone ever stop to think WHY Morgan Freeman did this film? Not for the money.
The story is very good. I'm impressed by the writing and the directing. This movie devastated me at the realities of child and human trafficking.
As I watched, I took a quick break and did a YouTube search. What a surprise - 11 days ago - Arkansas human trafficking ring busted by FBI.
Serious issue. Also addressed in Sicario - Day of Soldado.
Though fictional for this film, love the women truckers because here is the reality. How can any woman or man engage in such activity.
The young actress was phenomenal and her acting made me emotional. Yes, tears. Solid ending. And happy with it.
People neee to let up on nonsense reviews. The issue is the human trafficking and the acting isn't Oscar but this movie worked well for me.
It's a slow burn flick. Human reality.
Goliath (2016)
Amazing series. season 4 dark!
Shocked at the reviews about 2 and 3. Loved it. 3 was amazingly dark and well, season 4 keeps the juice flowing !!! Lol
Don't end this show. Don't :( season 4 is awesome. Go Billy !!
Collateral (2018)
Surprised by reviews
I'm actually surprised by the low reviews.
Unfortunately I think this is from people who are anti-immigration or pro-Brexit and pro-failed military intervention in Iraq or Afghanistan. Too bad.
Those were failures and it's fair to question the merits of the conflicts. What you see is a system that "agreeably" is doing everything in its power to stop terrorism. Nothing bad or sinister about that.
What's get "lost" is that an innocent casualty is by the hand of the "security services" who are equating the value of the greater good ( stopping terrorists through a smuggling pipeline) as more important that an innocent refugee uncovering the name "the boss" which could unravel the who thing.
To all those haters who thing it's bbc, socialism, the left etc. Step back. Take a breath. There's a another casualty. A soldier who believed in a higher ideal. Integrity. Who gets used by the system while obviously suffering ptsd.
We need to get past the polarizing views and realize everyone is getting used somewhere. Refugees fleeing for a better life due to a conflict by others - with the belief it would be better but never is - to a country that feels it is over-run by immigrants vs trying to be accepting of why they are fleeing in the first place.
Soldiers are honourable warriors who believe in their cause. But they come back hurt and destroyed and are tossed and suffer in silence with ptsd. We need to stop accepting this false reality that the "better cause" is not without its faults.
When we question our mistakes, learn from them, we EVOLVE. When we stop going this and begin to look inwards, we DeVOLVE.
Less political tribalism and more humanity. Do I hat the security services? Absolutely not. Do I believe their fight is legitimate? Yes. Do I agree with military intervention? If there ate legitimate reasons. Especially if it's humanitarian. When the mission and mandate is unclear, we must question vehemently!! Unquestioned power is fascism.
Do we need to help refugees ? Yes, especially if we had a hand in creating the problem no matter how demonic ( Saddam Hussein ) was. After all, the Americans played and were friends of the devil in their fight with Iran? Guess what? He was "used".
We must have long term memories. We must question everything. Regardless of the political spectrum.
This was a great four part series. Enjoy it and open your heart to humanity. Everyone was used in this story and that cannot he lost upon us.
Beckett (2021)
"Lot of critics"
I'm actually surprised by the "critics" on here. A lot of angry people. Anyone see Bourne Identity before? Stop with the whining.
Acting was fine as was the intense situation. Some of the films are for creative license - and maybe too much - but still if you relax in a pandemic environment you will say ok, not bad.
So give me a break and cry me a river Oscar selection committee.
The Marksman (2021)
Lighten up
Have a beer. Have a wine.
Rule 1 of fight club: Not every film is an Oscar.
Rule 2 of fight club : you do not talk about fight club
This was an enjoyable film. Liam is great. Don't trash Nicolage Cage.
We're in a pandemic ! Lighten up!!
Hannibal (2013)
Well...
Look I am a fan of the films. And I am huge fan of. He was great. Here's the problem. Season 1. Great. Engaging. Visually well done. Characters great.
Season 2. Gets boring. Scenes that should be re-caps are actually part of opening scenes. Almost too often. Makes me wonder how much dead time was filled with all these repeated scenes. Had to fast forward.
The psych dialogue is too long. Scenes are way too long! Some words are crafted nicely but seriously, everyone talks too slowly. It's almost over the top too slow. The dialogue drags and it's painful. I don't think I've struggled as much as I have with this series to basically get through an episode.
Gore scenes well done. Seriously over the top! Hard to handle but they did the job.
Season 3. Meh. More of the same. Drags on and on. More dialogue. Does it contribute to the overall story. Not really in my opinion. Happy it was filmed in Toronto and Orangeville. Go Ontario!
But don't think this series needed 39 episodes. Way too much boring talk to keep me engaged.
Percy (2020)
Do not let corporations think they are more powerful than people countries or governments
This movie is an excellent example of extreme capitalism. In the same vein as communism and nazism.
Monsanto - acquired by Bayer - was a demon seed. Manipulative business model enabling a Franken food threat to humanity for yields and profits. The issue isn't feeding the world. The issue is boundless globalization, waste, and endless growth. What we take out, we must humbly return and adopt circular economy principles.
Next time you see a big bully going against a little guy. You support the little guy because it's obvious what's at risk! Their business model and profits as the cost of lives and everything else
RIP Percy and thank you. Thank you Louise for pushing to the Supreme Court of Canada!
The Sinner (2017)
Wow what a series !!
Season 1. Wow this is really good.
Season 2. Julian kid actor is awesome.
Read reviews on 3. Puzzled. Very puzzled by those who deadpanned it. Are we watching the same thing? References to philosophy, troubled pasts, common connections, antagonist - protagonist.
Season 3 was deep, dark and brilliant. Depth of character development is unbelievable. It builds after first two episodes. But Jamie Burns played by Matt Bomer. Superb! The ending is so powerful. Bravo!
The Fanatic (2019)
Not bad for low budget
When I saw the credits I could see it was low Budd her financing but man, the acting is reasonable. John Travolta is believable and awesome.
If you want to see the nature of fandom and some that suffer from mental illness, this is a pretty good little film. Again - not theatre quality but if you got nothing to watch, it's enjoyable.
Mr. Robot (2015)
Wow!
Just saw Season 1. Can't describe how wrapped up I got into this. The characters, the endless twists, the music, the real ness of hacker culture and mindset. This was spot on. I'm already hooked.
Not sure why people are trashing Season 2. But clearly it's done well enough to get to Season 4. Not happy about Amazon pulling an inception on viewers but giving us Seasons 1-3 on Amazon Prime but then inception the hell out of us with a Starz subscription within an Amazon Prime subscription time see Season 4. That kind of crap is a 1-star move.
