The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
The actors can't make bad writing good
This could have been amazing, but as they say "something for everyone is nothing to anyone" .
I won't blame the cast, they surely did the best they could in their situation. Situation being that the whole story seemed like it was written in a week on a white board with plot summarized on bullet points and dialogue recycled from the endless depths of Hollywood carbage. Every scene smelt like diversification jury had judged and weighted it to be up to standards. If you want to make a favor of that sort to the world, write a good story and implement it in it with some depth, do not sprinkle it over a pile of dung and pretend that you're saving the world. Also these characters were so thin, it was like watching a bunch of caricatures of American consumer preferences running around.
Watched the whole series, but for 10 minutes from the end. I just could not finish it, at least before ranting here.
I love the world of Witcher, but it has always stemmed from good writing and interesting characters. This vanilla budding had neither.
The Mummy (2017)
Had to watch it in three parts
If you are diehard on making a movie with references to history, do make sure to get someone who knows their trade to write the script. The underlying plot about cruaders, ancient Egypt and another US war in the Middle East would have a potential for a great story but with the lore this thin, dialogue straight of the meeting table whiteboard and historical references this vague, it completely failed to catch my attention and I had to watch it in three parts.
The Mummy herself was great, everyone else felt just misplaced. Tom Cruise.. I won't even get started with him. The CGI was decent and there were some visually pleasing scenes but those alone do not sell the movie to me.
