Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Lenghty, boring, and unneeded film
Look, it's over 2 hours. Why does this need to be over 2 hours long? I should mention this movie is really boring.
It's probably the most stretched-out film i've ever seen. With a plot already suitable for a half an hour short, Captain America: Civil War requires to know exactly what happens in the previous delivers, but i don't mean you've got to remember just a bit, you've got to remember everything or else you're not going to understand where the characters come from, why they act they way they do, just overall why things happen. I suppose this might be great for comic fans, but for someone like me it's just a pain in the ass.
The characters feel lazy. There is not much character development going on, as most just come out of nowhere and are suddenly protagonists. Also, as i've mentioned before, there are so much of them that it just feels confusing.
As usual, though, the special effects are awesome. The sound effects are also nice. The combat scenes are well done and the movie is astonishingly directed.
Now, do i recommend this movie? No, of course not! Unless you're a big comic fan, or just want to see the action scenes, this film is not going to be a hassle. Awesome special effects and direction, but with an lacking and overall boring story.
The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police (1997)
Cheesy and edgy. That'd be a perfect definition.
A long time ago i discovered Sam & Max, in the form of the game Season One or Save The World in consoles. My 13 year old self was impressed, and decided to play all the other games. Soon after i finished with all the game series, i read somewhere on the net that there was a comic and an animated series about the duo. Then here i am, like half a decade later writing this review, so yeah, let's start.
So i used two words to describe this: cheesy and edgy. Why? Why is it cheesy? This is cheesy because it is absurd, unrealistic. That's a good thing, though, as it matches perfectly the comic's "weirdy" atmosphere, where weird things happen, and these are so stupid they are unbelievable. This is what makes this cartoon funny.
Why is it edgy? Some things here have double meaning, and some i'm surprised they weren't censored, or cut out, for example, in some dialog Sam slaps Max in the face, tells him to stay calm, and Max answers saying "Hit me again, i like it.". The comic's nature is like this, which makes this a good adaptation, even if it is very adapted for kids.
So in conclusion, i think this is a good cartoon, though it is not for everyone. This is very very cheesy as i said earlier, but so are the games and comics. If you liked the duo's other media, you'll like this.
The Gallows (2015)
Yes, it's awful. And yes, it's cliché.
You know this film's pretty bad when you watch the first five minutes. This movie is another slasher, found-footage film. Isn't that already done? Yes, of course, and i think a few times, isn't it? Wow. This movie starts with a police-evidence recording of a 1993 high school play. What a surprise! There, we see a normal high school acting, with the famous Charlie as August, in a play called ironically "The Gallow" or something like that. Then, we see the character Bryan (who cheaply is the actor's name) who's recording with a camera everything he and everyone does, and everywhere he is. Now we see the main character, Reese (also the actor's name) who acts in this play as August. This guy's doing something "productive" as Bryan annoys him (he's studying for the play.). Reese know he won't do well on the play, so they decided to go and break the stage at night the day before the play. Now Pfeifer (Actor of the play with Reese, ALSO the same name as actor's) and Casidy (Bryan's girlfriend, also the same name as actor's) pop up there "by coincidence". Then, they start breaking the stage and the spirit Charlie, of the 1993 play. He starts hanging everybody, everyone dies, etc. That's the film in a nutshell. And i tried to make it long, so that's when you find out that plot's lame, and that this idea never had a chance. Oh, and another thing: the acting is lame, typical of found-footage movies. You couldn't expect a good film, especially with the trailers. Everyone finds them pretty good, but i don't like them.
