Santa's Slay (2005)
The type of " 80's Horror" movie I've grown to miss
A VERY cheesy movie with a lame plot to be fair. But it is as much Comedy as Horror. The comedy is in the comical and inventive ways people are mashed about and the barely contained groans you let out each time a new "plot" twist is revealed. I recommend this movie for either Halloween or Christmas parties, with a few friends, a few drinks and maybe a card or board game. Very enjoyable and something you don't see a lot of anymore. It contains a lot of B actors getting mashed (the opening scene.. spoiler: has Fran Drescher and Jimmy Fallon getting brutally murdered in a scene that makes my inner soul smile), The stereotypical lecherous preacher is played well by Dave Thomas (Grace Under fire, Rat Race, etc) and Goldberg as the Anti-Christ Viking Hellgod spouting Christmas carols makes me laugh. The scene explaining his origins was also hilarious and was brilliantly done in the wooden stop motion style of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer".
Wizards (1977)
Its all about the ending
The whole movie in terms of style is something done by stoners in the sixties, and one of many that fit this bill. The movie plot is simplistic good versus evil with as many stereotypes as possible (the villain is undead, his minions are demons, reptile-men, black knights and actual Nazis), the whole movie is an odd setup for the ending, that so many huge problems caused by evil men would be solved if those close to him just shot him. That really is the whole point to the movie, at least as I took away from it. There are lots of things in the movie geared to its target audience (the scantily clad women, the psychedelic colour, the jokes about religion, the list goes on and on) but that doesn't mean he didn't have at least one idea or message.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990)
Well..
on the plus side, he spawned an awesome quote "BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED! I AM CAPTAIN PLANET!"
That ranks right up there with "I am batman" with what to say when someone asks your name. This is in fact a kids show, and yes, it is equally as 2 Dimensional as Care Bears. Yes its hypocrisy filled propaganda, but so is every other kids show. This show is meant for kids aged 2 to 6 and not beyond that, so it really isn't fair to judge it as if it were some epic masterpiece. And its brainwashing has significantly impacted the acceptance of being ecologically conscious. It used to be the thought of driving a hybrid car was akin to saying "I smoke pot and wear Tie-dye".
