Atlas (2024)
Holy overacting Batman!
I'm halfway through this disjointed, quick-cut, no real sequence of events that has thrown together scene after scene just to get us on this planet. I don't think there's been a scene that JLo has said a line in a normal delivery. EVERY SINGLE LINE is said through pain, tears, struggle, etc. It's basically told through the eyes of a teenager where everything is so dang dramatic. She needs coffee so she's falling over and the machine doesn't work so she has a breakdown then they're about to leave and she forces them to take her because "she needs this," and spends the entire first half of the movie like she's been having a mental breakdown. I mean, my God, this is some of the worst acting I've ever seen in my life. I'm appalled at how bad this is. I'll give it a 3 because there's decent graphics, not phenomenal, but I've definitely seen worse. There's just no cohesion, no storyline, no character development, it's so fast paced that every scene is just enough to get you to the next scene and then the next thing happens and the next and the next and the next... Maybe I'll finish it tomorrow or something, but I need a break from this neurotic mess of overacting. My God.
Shinobi no Ie: House of Ninjas (2024)
Does nobody know?
The Tawara family isn't just a "family of ninjas.". They are descendants of the great Hanzo Hattori, who is rumored to have been killed by the 5th Fuma. In the show they're on the 20th Fuma.
That means this show depicts these clans are STILL fighting after 15 generations!!!
I've read dozens of reviews that say it's just a twist on a modern Shinobi family, which it is, but it's rooted in history, bringing a different feel to it.
I thought it was well done, the fight scenes are pretty good, the grandmas laugh gets annoying though. In the very last scene the little kid, who's also annoying but grows on you, busts out like a dozen background backflips in a row! Probably on different takes, but still... Didn't expect that out of little roly poly! But it was legit!
Resiklo (2007)
Time to go camping!
What's with the bad reviews?!? Who's reviewing this film seriously?
The voice dub of the 4 year old girl sounded like a guy pretending to be a 4 year old girl with perfect intonation. "I'm going to miss you Mommy! Oh no Daddy, what is going on?"
Some of the worst acting. Scenes of the kids standing still and reciting lines as if they were on stage. I think every single actor looked at the people behind the camera. A dude with a swollen eye just squinted. The guy shooting at the enemy who does a full 360 spin... Just to continue shooting at the enemy. Can't forget about the totally awesome BMX/skateboard scene. Radical!
Don't take this seriously, and it's hilarious.
The Recruit (2022)
The world revolves around him...
I find it funny when every single time he comes home his roommates are in the kitchen hanging out, waiting for him to spill his problems so his roommates or her rich parents help him out. Or maybe the lawyer who went out of her way to take him to bed. Or every single one of his bosses, who promote him on the spot. Or the mafia gangsters, who back down any time he squeaks out a threat. It's a decent show if you can look past the fact that every single other character goes out of their way to help him and sleep with him and give him secrets and intel... Come to think of it, the people he works with aren't very good spies!
House of Gucci (2021)
House of zzzzzzz.....
Did you actually stay for the entire movie?!? I sure as hell didn't. MY GOD how much more boring can you make a movie?!? From the ridiculously cheesy cat-calling, to seeing Kylo Ren act like a big man baby, to the what in the world is this movie even about?!? Ugh...I tried. I really did. But my eyes...they buuurrrnnnn....
Halo (2022)
Impressed
Went into this with a healthy dose of skepticism. Came out of it more than pleasantly surprised. I'm impressed with the acting of young Kwan, the effects were more than sufficient, and TBH blew away any of the first run Disney+ shows. Very impressed with the story, the writing, the acting... Very much looking forward to the next episode.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian (2022)
Finally!
Good God people, was it seriously THIS HARD to make a decent episode of Boba?!? And this wasn't just decent, it was amazing!!! This FELT Star Wars through and through. Bryce Dallas Howard... Please save this series and continue directing episodes.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
How much did Disney pay for a 7.9?!?
There is no way on Mickey's Green Earth that this show has a legitimate rating of anything over 2. This show is ATROCIOUS. It's pathetic. It's like watching Michael Jordan trying to play baseball. This show just ruins your dreams. Is this show directed by a 6-year-old?!? BY FAR, the worst Disney has done.
Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
Where's Barbie?
This movie could have easily been an 8 or 9. For a cheesy sci-fi flick, it had a believable and well set-up story, the cast as a whole is believable as a platoon of Marines, Michael Pena nails a dramatic scene that you'd think is out of his range...the story is begging to be made into a good movie!
But BY FAR the worst part about this movie is Aaron Eckhart. He might as well be Zoolander in a coal mine he's so out of place. He literally looks like a Ken doll alongside Marines. He's a total Gary Stu...he sacrificed himself then returned to a standing ovation. He reminds one girl of her brother. The kid needs a new dad, hey what a coincidence. Nobody else on the team gets to shine. It is unabashedly a one-man team.
Even with some of the uber-cheese, I definitely enjoyed the movie. Well-paced, intense, TONS of action... It's good for the eyes. But it definitely ain't Shakespeare. I think 6 is fair, and generous... It should almost be penalized for the missed opportunity.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
IT'S JOHN CONNOR!!!!!
I think this was meant to be a gritty war epic a la WW2 or Vietnam. It failed in places I think a movie like Rogue One succeeded in. The gritty and the future didn't coincide. It felt forced.
The acting was so over the top, almost like it was parodying itself. Bale doesn't speak a word of dialogue in this movie. He screams EVERYTHING.
This movie wasn't great by any standards. BUT there are some really cool visuals and camera work, and if you like Terminator at all it's definitely worth a watch.
Transformers: War for Cybertron (2020)
Gritty and unpolished.
Which I think is an appropriate compliment. Great animation, unique angles, but once in a while there will be a weird cut. Like the scene lingers on for 1 second too long. Or there's a delay between lines. Or there's a line out of nowhere, and you wonder which lines got cut that would have made it make sense.
One gripe I have is Alita. Her voice... It's... Just so.... Dramatic.... Every... Single.... Line.... Is spoken with agony.... It just gets old after a while. That's her singular voice. Agony.
The Old Guard (2020)
Glad I Watched
Great story line established about 30 minutes in, which hooked me, so I decided to stay. I wasn't disappointed. Premise is great, it unfolds and gets deeper as the movie goes. No real character development other than Charlize, but there were some interesting choices and conflicts that legitimately kept me on my toes and continued to surprise/shock/stun me throughout. Fight choreography was pretty well done, and well executed by the cast, if not for those few "oh I waited until you were done punching my buddy and then I fell into your chokehold." But overall a believable execution of combat. As a whole the movie kept me entertained start to finish, and was definitely better than expected.
