The Delivery Man (2015)
Has potential. Hope to see them develop the characters in the next season
If there's one thing I love, it's tall handsome well built men holding babies, or feeding babies, or in general being nurturing to babies. So of course when I found this series in my suggestions from Netflix, I jumped straight on that bandwagon!
I did watch the whole season, at least as much as is on Netflix right now, and honestly I could take it or leave it. It's very lighthearted, which is nice, but as a result doesn't make a very big impression either. The humor is not terrible but doesn't make you laugh out loud either.
I do get tired of the endless drama in soap operas, but this show is one that could use a little more. Especially seeing the mothers and the births and our main character dealing with those. I'm surprised to see a show that was rated tv-14 (a soft version of MA for mature here in Canada) that danced around the issue of giving birth so much. It's a show about midwives for goodness sake! Giving birth usually has enough drama to spare, and this show capitalizes on none of that, instead choosing to use the horrible incompetence of the staff to create humor and drama.
I really did enjoy it, and the characters all have their unique charm, but they're one dimensional. I hope that in the next season (if there is one) the potential of this series will really be expanded upon.
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (2012)
Hated it. Trash TV in it's most horrendous form.
Me and my family had been on a murder mystery netflix spree. We'd watched some classic Agatha Christie, Miss marple, etc. And then we found this piece. We were hoping it would be pretty good, we were sorely disappointed. I'll admit we only watched the first episode, but that is enough for me that's for sure.
First of all, the murder mystery was really a minor part of the experience. I pretty much knew how it would turn out by halfway through the episode. It seems the main purpose of the show is to watch the entertaining antics of Miss Fisher, if by entertaining you mean dangerous, selfish and absolutely depraved, to the point that I found myself hating Miss Fisher by the end almost as much as I hated Joffrey from Game of Thrones.
Miss Fisher is an absolute tart who'll throw herself at any man who looks even halfway decent, and has no qualms playing a prostitute if it will give her any kind of advantage. One might respect her for "doing whatever it takes" to solve a case, even at her own expense, if it were not for the fact that she endangers everyone else in the process too. She takes on a maid or girl of some sort as an assistant in the episode, and forces her to pretend to get an abortion, despite the fact that it could very well kill her if something went wrong. Later on in the episode too when they're chasing down the perp she puts everyone in danger in the name of being "a strong and independent woman" gag.
Another note, the 20's vibe they were going for was totally lost on me. It seemed like how a high-schooler might imagine the 20's to be like.
Absolute garbage.
