Clever
14 January 2021
If you finish the film thinking that the plot was all over the place and hard to follow, think again.

Every character has their own agenda, focused on getting what they want. They're so invested in themselves that they fail to see the bigger picture of what is happening around them.

The way the film takes the viewer on a rollercoaster ride without you realizing it is something I've never experienced before.

Really clever.

Better than your average South Korean high-school film
20 September 2020
The Legend of 7 Cutter is much better than your typical overly sweet South Korean high-school film. It's got quirky moments and cheeky jokes and antics that are sure to get a laugh out of you.

Thanks to the enthusiastic cast, the film is overall very enjoyable and will entertain people who want to see more than just romance.

Bitter-sweet truth: timing is everything
11 September 2020
Short. Pure. Realistic.

Shift is a delicate portrayal of the many facets a relationship between coworkers can go through: sharing secrets, boding over heartbreaks, and facing challenges.

Estela and Trevor's work and friendship dynamics are so pure and intimate that I felt like I was reading someone's diary.

It's a simple film packed with human emotions. Brilliant!

Hilarious

I've never seen such an originally-consistent comedy!

The plot is simple, but it's packed with funny moments. The film centers around the 2 main protagonists, and more than a romantic comedy, this film a pure comedy, where every scene filled with lighthearted humor.

If you're looking for a cheesy romance, this film is not for you. There are only a few romantic scenes, but I wish they would have stuck to the comedy side - it's much better!

Chuckling and laughing out loud, I finished the film with a permanent smile on my face.

Loaded with ambience
23 April 2020
Zubaan is a hidden gem among all the secondary Hindi film releases.

The film has much more depth than the plot summary on IMDb would lead you to believe. Maybe this is why I didn't have high expectations, but it turned out to be a good film: the storyline is different, the music is great, the acting is good, and - above all- the settings are exquisitely chosen and decorated.

Dilsher's transformation in life is beautifully narrated in a coherent and engaging way.

I'd give Zubaan a solid 7-star rating.

Greatly underrated
8 April 2020
Naan is a solid crime/thriller film that deserves credit for its creativity and engaging content. I'm so surprised it isn't more popular!

The main character was perfect. A man of a few words, he expressed his emotions, inner turmoil, anger and confusion through his eyes. His performance, the supporting cast, and the background music work in captivating harmony that will suck you right in.

Although there are some weak points in the plot, Naan is an excellent crime film that you should NOT miss!

Pleasantly surprised
4 April 2020
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Rather than being the drama that I expected, Thanga Magan is a sweet portrait of love and the evolving relationships amidst tragic family dynamics.

What stands out the most is how love and courtship have been so innocently portrayed through great music sequences.

Dhanush gave a solid performance throughout the film. The dialogues are good, especially that of the supporting cast.

Give this film a go, and you'll also be in for a pleasant surprise :)

Mind-blowingly good
2 October 2019
Wow wow wow, it's been a while since I've seen such an intense and engaging film. There were plot twists around every corner. When you think to have figured the whole plot out BAM you're surprised yet again.

I read that the original (La Cara Oculta) is more graphic in terms of sexual nudity. And you know what? I appreciate that the Turkish version didn't feel the urge to make an R rated film. Having those scenes wouldn't have added anything to the plot.

You'll be on the edge of your seat until the very end - highly recommended!!!

A must watch for train lovers
29 August 2019
You've got almost 3 hours of train footage, from the pantry, passenger wagons to the conductor room.

The film starts out brilliantly, but the second half is badly held together by its poor plot and Saroja's weak character - shame.

But overall, the film has many humorous scenes and characters that will keep you entertained and hooked.

This film is definitely a treat for all the train lovers out there!

Scary How Relatable This Film Is
12 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The plot is extremely simple, but it leaves your thoughts and emotions running high.

Initially, you can vaguely understand Sonam's drastic actions for not giving the poor many any medical attention.

The situation, however, soon spirals out of control and it reaches new lows.

Sonam's selfish nature slowly and shamelessly emerges into full bloom. Not only is she prepared to kill her best friend, but she also blackmails her boyfriend - the only person she trusts to help her.

At the same time, you can relate to all the people who do not come forward to save the man. They all have some problems with the law and do not want to draw any attention towards themselves. While their bystander effect might seem justified, in reality they're only normal people who committed petty crimes - which is nothing compared to murder!

Definitely worth watching - 8/10

You shouldn't have to do great things to be respected!
7 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am all in for female empowerment and I truly appreciate films that showcase a woman's potential to succeed in life.

I believe, however, that this film sent out the wrong message.

Vasanthi is a a woman who has lost her drive in life and is disrespected by her husband and daughter. YET, she holds a good government job, looks after her in-laws and selflessly helps others.

She manages to earn her husband's and daughter's respect only when she actually achieves something big in life. That is, starting her own business and meeting the PM! Vasanthi was already a fantastic woman, but her family just walked all over her. Not all women have the means or the chance to "do something big", but this doesn't make them any less admirable. And it certainly does not entitle others to disrespect them.

It would have been more appropriate if the film had acknowledged this and showed that Vasanthi had always been a fantastic woman. Her husband telling her that he does not want their daughter to grow up like her should not be used as an insult.

Contemporary - Not! Story about a selfish daughter
4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While the acting is a generous average, the plot and message were downright awful!

The film is based on Puja who, realizing that her mother will be alone once she leaves for her higher studies, decides to marry her off.

While the idea sounds interesting and indeed a modern take on daughter-mother relationship, the end product was as old-fashioned and primitive as it could possibly be.

Puja represents the typical ME ME ME generation, too busy on the phone and having fun to pay any attention to the relationships that really count - that with her mother.

The only person benefiting from her mother getting married is Puja. The mother is perfectly fine and independent. She simply wants a relationship with her daughter!

Ahhh the film failed to see the difference between being alone and being lonely.

***SPOILERS***. I understand Puja for wanting a relationship with her father, but all along I felt like she did not consider her mother capable of making her own decisions.

This is a film about a daughter who always does what is best for her.

Family Film
26 July 2019
To be honest, I wasn't expecting this film to be a kid's film - but it is.

This being said, the film is a perfect film for family entertainment. The main protagonist is a young orphan boy forced to steal. His misfortune is represented as a series of adventures and even the "bad guys" are depicted as funny and easily fooled.

Belçim Bilgin is very likable and was convincing in her role.

Perfect film for a family viewing.

Light Watch - Cute and Funny
20 July 2019
Because life doesn't end at "a certain age" and you're certainly not doomed to spend the rest of your life miserable and alone. Second chances do come around.

It's nice to have a romantic film targeted to a more mature audience.

The film is ok and worth a watch.

Wonderful

Warning: Spoilers
This is the first Japanese film that I have seen - and what a lovely surprise! Where have I been all these years?!

The film is about a guy his late 20s who hasn't achieved much in life: no job, no real friends and no hope. Thanks to a medical experiment, he takes a drug that makes him appear 10 years younger. He's back at high school where he has a second chance to achieve something in life. He soon rediscovers a youthful energy mixed with an older person's appreciation for life.

This plot is original and intriguing. It definitely got me hooked on Japanese films!

The goings on of a small convenience store
18 May 2019
The film centers around the goings on of a convenience store, its employees and customers.

It is a collection of episodes loosely connected between them. Some more interesting and weird than others, but overall an okay watch.

Satire that would have had more success with a bigger cast
11 May 2019
The film is a good satire. Although it may drag a little, it manages to successfully depict society's religious beliefs. It is this compulsion with religion that - ironically - reduces it to a money-making medium that ruins human relationships.

Had this film a had bigger cast, it would have had more success and positive reception.

With its dark humour, this film is a more satirical version of PK with Aamir Khan.

Definitely worth a watch. It's better than what you think it is!

Teen comic magazine - Film version
8 May 2019
It's a girly film, and at times overly romantic and sweet. The character's growth towards maturity and the ability to recognise and to value what truly matters in life seems like something out of a teen magazine.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with the film. In fact, if you're into these kinds of films, you'll definitely like this one.

What makes the film really enjoyable is the group of friends. Their dialogue is so funny and it holds the true meaning of friendship: supporting each other through the good and the bad times - with humour.

It's an easy watch. Ideal for a girl's movie night!

Worth watching for the leading actors
22 March 2019
I knew from the reviews that this film was going to be either very good or very bad. Let's be clear: this film IS good.

The film is short, simple and the plot doesn't offer anything new. Be ready to watch the usual con-girl who, through many different plans, steals from unsuspecting and innocent strangers.

However, it is the main two actors who make this a good film. Not only do they look good individually, but together, they have chemistry. Humaima Malik looks sophisticated, glamorous and confident, but without looking like an empty-headed silly girl. She is utterly comfortable as she poses in front of the camera, but never vain. Despite the difficult balance between looking pretty and not overdoing it, Humaima gave a really good performance.

Sikander Rizvi, more quiet and naive, perfectly matches his co-star. He gave Humaima's character the stability and support that it needed.

The other actors weren't as good, in fact, they were almost annoying. Fortunately, they did not have much screen time.

The music was very nice. You'll be in for a shocking surprise mid-film. Who knew THAT version of Mamma Mia?! Got you curious? Go and watch it!

A really funny comedy film - Turkish style
6 December 2018
I tend to avoid comedy films, because they rarely appeal to my silly sense of humour. However, I decided see what the Turkish cinema had to offer in terms of comedy and I was pleasantly surprised!

The film really kicks off after the first 15 minutes, after that, I was soon laughing. The plot is simply funny, cheeky and, at times, hilarious. There are never any dull moments and you are entertained all the way to the end. The film has good actors, a solid comic plot and actually funny jokes! Pucca (Büsra Pekin) has a comedian's talent of being funny while keeping a straight-face. I'm surprised she isn't more famous.

I am very surprised at how much I enjoyed this film and I would definitely watch it again.

Why haven't you watched it yet?!
4 May 2018
Can't believe Deha is practically unheard of and that there is little mention of it on imdb.

I'm honoured to be the first to review it, as I feel like I've discovered a gem. Has nobody really ever discovered it in all these years?

The film was really really good! There are points that can be criticised, like how quickly the couple age in 10 years, or how they waited so long for a doctor's appointment. But overall, what a film! It certainly had substance and held the viewer's attention. The film focuses on married life, divorce and healthy relationships.

Definitely a good drama/romance worth watching!

TOP rating for its passion, realism and honesty
23 March 2018
This film is dedicated to all the struggling wanna-be actors who have a deep passion for films. These are ordinary people from all kinds of background, whose only dream is to be given a chance to prove themselves and to make it big in the film industry. Their love for acting makes them invest all their savings, jeopardize their health and even dedicate their last moments alive to the pursuit their dream. Sadly, talent and good looks are not the only requirements to become a famous. In reality, films are a business and the only way to be part of them is to either be an already successful actor or to be born into a family connected to the film industry.

Hats off to Salim Diwan who plays Rohit. He did an excellent job portraying a young lad passionate about film, but with poor acting skills. In the end though, Salim gave a true performance! The end of the film is a wonderful build-up of emotions and the music is beyond perfect.

Bollywood Diaries deserves a 10 stars rating for its honesty in this film tribute to struggling actors trying to make themselves noticed.

A collection of clichés
9 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER: The plot is a classic: boy meets girl on the long train journey from Hanoi to Saigon. Girl is upper class and materialistic. Boy is a daydreamer and goes with the flow. Girl is engaged. Predictably, at one of the train stops, they fail to be on time and miss their train. Without any money they have to find a way to move forward. Their progress takes them through to the historical and picturesque cities of Hue, Hoi An and Nha Trang. Although their personalities are very different, their adventure brings them closer and it opens their eyes to their flaws and it sparks a willingness to become better people Eventually, they part ways, but destiny allows them to meet again in Saigon.

The film is simple and despite being predictable, it has its sweet moments. It is packed with over used motivational quotes, such as "It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all". Considering that the film is about the train journey all across Vietnam's coastline, I thought I was in for a treat to see the different landscapes and natural wonders. I was let down by how little relevance Vietnam as a country had in the film. Maybe it wasn't aimed at a foreign audience, but still I'm sure the Vietnamese would have appreciated it.

Overall, it's an okay and watchable film.

For the family and especially children!
26 February 2018
The film is about young Sunny who feels like an outcast from his school and family for his inability to smell. Following an accident in the chemistry lab at school, his olfactory sense is not only suddenly working, but it's greatly enhanced! With the help of his friends, he uses his newly acquired super power to solve big and small crimes in his community. Of particular interest and importance are the highly unexpected car thefts in the neighbourhood which Sunny is determined to solve and find the culprit.

The film is a good choice for the whole family: children would enjoy Sunny's detective lifestyle and the many ways he puts his super olfactory power to use and adults can laugh at the jokes that the little ones wouldn't understand.

Ladies Tailor (2006)
3/10
Physically revolting & mentally annoying
17 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Without any doubt, the film deserves a nomination for worst film ever!

The acting wasn't that bad, but the plot?! Let's talk about stretching and pulling it as far and wide as possible, leaving the viewer many times confused! From a priest predicting Chander's future, he embarks on a journey of sleaziness and rudeness. To imagine that some women would accept that kind of behaviour and want to marry him goes beyond any pretty dress that he can sew.

The lead actor Chander and his two friends all rely on their physical appearances for their roles. An aspect extremely important for any film, but upon which "Ladies tailor" heavily depends upon. I have to admit though, that if their intentions was to make a bad impression, they succeeded! The film made me feel psychically sick and mentally irritated. Chander, short and with thick-rimmed glasses, perfectly depicts a piggy and perverted person. The thought of him sewing ladies clothes and taking their measurement is disturbing. Pyare, Chander's assistant, stands out for his height and especially for his skinniness. He compliments his boss perfectly as being hopeless and the thought of him impregnating a woman is revolting. FTV, whose job is to sell Chander's finished clothes, is the only real decent person out of the three.

The final scene was the only part when it picked up a little , but by then it was just too late.

The only reason I can imagine sitting through it all is that it was so ridiculous and bad that my mind went blank with desperation.
