Prison Break (2005–2017)
10/10
Only 1% of my reviews gets a 10; truly the best
5 December 2020
When people talk about best shows to binge, best shows overall, best dramas, this is one of the top 10 ever. Most think about Breaking Bad, the Sopranos, ER, 24, Boston Legal, House, etc. Prison Break is right there. As much as I love Breaking Bad, no other show like this kept me glued to see what happened on the next episode. The writers developed by far the best, most memorable characters in a series. Their interaction and synergy, forgiveness and ability to mesh throughout all seasons was remarkable. The changes of local, the reversal of Heroes/villains and the superb acting all added to one of the best ever series. All aspects from writing, acting, directing, editing to producing and more are objective metrics to teach at the University level. One of the greatest shows ever. I rarely give 10/10 to anything. Enjoy this series.

Travelers (2016–2018)
8/10
Solid, creative series that could have been renewed
5 December 2020
Being a big fan of the 100, 4400, Continuum, etc., Travelers falls up there into a high ranking sci fi series. It kept a solid plot, sub plots, transition between seasons, and strong character building. My only hit was the repetition of the main nemesis taking up too many episodes. Aside from creating another tangent into the story, this show could have easily continued along with the above named leaders. The core acting, story lines, editing and writing made for a solid 8/10 3-series show. I'll binge it again in a few years.

Limitless (2015– )
10/10
One of the most upsetting cancellations ever
5 December 2020
Having been a savant for movie lines and missing my Mark as a reviewer, I am shocked at the amount of less than stellar reviews. This was one of the few series that kept us coming back to see more. Aside from Heroes, or Breaking Bad, Limitless was a complete shock to have been cancelled. Of course, it's tough to get a great series after a "once in a lifetime" movie, but Jake McDorman was amazing with wit and charisma, and incredible synergy with the talented Jennifer Carpenter. This was such a well written, well acted and directed show, with all strong supporting characters. This had all the potential for at least 2-3 more seasons. Obviously, more creative sub plots would need to be created along with NZT and the hyperacute mind, but a good writer could have taken this far. The 2 lead actors really made it happen. This is one of those shows I can binge every couple years in late fall when the days get short and dark. A great, feel good show.

Westworld (2016–2022)

Strong to fizzle
5 December 2020
When it first came out, it had all the HBO characteristics for a strong series: good story with solid sub plots, well built characters, good interaction between characters, great transition across sub plots, changes that were well planned and smoothly transitioned across sub plots and into season 2....... Initially. And then it just started to fizzle. All the key characteristics mentioned above started to weaken, and it just wasn't worth watching anymore. Sorry.

The 100 (2014– )
9/10
Top 10 Sci Fi Series all time
5 December 2020
Throughout the series, some followers that loved the series may have been disgruntled to see one of their favorites killed off, or another main character become ruthless. What kept the 100 a top 10 show, was the continued development of the core actors as they progressed their lives through each changing series. The addition of other leading actors into the core group was well planned, and the chemistry worked. Even with completely new civilizations, times and threats, the plots never became stale. Without spoiling, this was apparent in the revisit of earlier storylines in the final season. While many post apocalyptic shows have been written over the years, the 100 kept recreating the stories. It will remain one of the few shows that one can go a couple years, then re-binge the entire season without it getting stale. Overall solid character building, plots, subplots, cinematography and editing, under a master director. The crew of young actors may become some of our next major players in Cinema.
