Interesting Idea ruined by weird racial undertones
20 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Should of expected racial undertones when I saw the Obamas in the opening credits as the producers. I was correct in that assumption. Interesting idea for a movie in general and would have warranted more stars if they cut out the out-of-place racial stuff. Still wouldn't have been a great movie if that were cut out though.

The idea of a cyberattack doing the initial damage is plausible but I feel that damage of that scale isn't realistic. True, we are vastly unprepared for such attack but having all this happen would be extremely unlikely. Take down all systems at once and leave us completely vulnerable to attacks from outside forces? Really?

The outside attacks on such a scale are also unlikely and the coordination nationwide is ridiculous. Regardless, the talk of civil war and then being told of nuclear detonations along with attacks on cities and the White House? Which is it? Where did all the helicopters and jets come from also?

Then the animals showing up along with the talk of messed up migration patterns. What?! All this topped with some sort of drivel about racism which made not sense in the context of the movie. Without that I might give it 6 stars but not more than that.

Good Boys (2019)
9/10
This movie is genius regardless of what others are saying
24 October 2020
Listen, I get it. This movie is an immature and dumb comedy. However, looking back at my 6th grade self this was the mentality and social interactions of my male friends and classmates. It wasn't pretty, was dumb, overly sexualized, and crude. This movie captured that perfectly! This movie is a victim of this reality because people don't think it's right to depict 12 year old boys in this matter. There are a lot of "coming of age" stories out there but they are sanitized. The reality is the way these boys live isn't sanitized and to this day we look back and say to ourselves "that was stupid of me to do that" or "I sounded like an idiot". We can debate how boys are raised and how we can allow this to happen, but I WAS that boy and it's the way it was and I'm sure still is for boys in that part of their lives . Call it a "right of passage" or the "downfall of society", this movie is an immaturely humorous but VERY true depiction of the truth. I wish more people would see this.

Tough As Nails (2020– )

The negative reviews on here are hilarious!
3 September 2020
Don't listen to the negative reviews on this show. People complaining about the "corporate machine" exploiting hard working people is ridiculous. These people love what they do and they are using their hard work to win $250K and a nice truck. These people don't complain even when they lose and the entire show has positive vibes. The challenges are unique and some of them are outright brutal (in a good way). This is a great show and it's a great depiction of America. If you want to watch a show about people complaining about hard work then I'm sure there's a European version being released eventually.

Funny satire with suprisingly good music
18 June 2020
Don't know why so many people hate this show. It's a straight-forward satire of Soul Train and a good one at that. It's silly and can be a little out there at times but just sit back and have fun with it. What makes this show even better is the music. I think the music is technically also satire but it's actually pretty good. The bands performances are usually over-the-top campy (on purpose) but the music is pretty solid. I would actually listen to this stuff if I could find it. Just give this show a try and try to ignore the bad reviews.

This is the art of being funny
5 May 2020
Listen, I can't blame people who hate this show. Watching it expecting meaningful substance will be disappointed. The show absurd and monumentally stupid. Even from a parody standpoint........it's absurd and monumentally stupid. However, this creates a situation where it's funny deconstructed to it's simplest form. Tim and Eric COULD of made a more structured parody of a sitcom and it would of been fine. Problem is we have seen parody's like this made over and over again. This show is made with typical family sitcom tropes but with little regard to making something that would make a mass audience happy. If it does please a mass audience then fine. It seems to me though that they make these episodes thinking "this would be hilarious and SO TRUE to family sitcoms!" but fail to ask anybody else if it's funny because they are going to make it anyway. In the end, all this makes a good show that this world needs more of.

Bird Box (2018)
6/10
Fun movie but the book tells a much better and coherent story
3 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I don't want to be one of "those people" and I don't expect a movie to be as good as a book but the story of Bird Box is given a misjustice from this movie. The book has character identities, relationships, storylines, etc. that are completely different. For example, Tom isn't a musclebound stud in the book, he is an older father-figure that the house respects and is like a father to Malorie. This is something you would think should of been preserved and not changed THIS MUCH for a movie. Malorie also just doesn't crash in front of a house. There is an entire (and important) story on how she finds and gets accepted into the house. The monsters are also talked about and explained in a deeper sense and not just "the spooky thing outside". As a matter of fact, you start to understand where they are from, why they are here, and what they are. Something the movie totally skips over but obviously important. There are many other examples but I don't want to ruin it if somebody wants to read the book. Bottom line though, it's changing the story too much to be what the author intended. The last movie I have seen that jacked up the story this much from the intention of the book was Starship Troopers. That's going back a long time.

As for the movie, it's ok in it's own right. It's fun and well made with decent acting. It's a good showcase of what a Netflix movie can be. The movie wouldn't feel out of place in theaters. Just don't expect anything profound, sit back, and have a good time watching it.
