Yûkoku (1966)
an experience
make sure to watch the version with the new score by aaron embry. it's much more beautiful as the ambient music adds so much to the film where the older music made it seem dated which was unfortunate because the cinematography was so ahead of it's time.

Ima boku wa (2008)
depressingly real
slow paced & not much happens (lots of silent moments), which adds to the realism.
the acting is so great that it feels like you're watching a documentary. while watching this movie and observing the main character, undoubtedly someone you've once known will make their way back into your mind. we all know/knew someone like the main character, even if that person is ourselves.
even the clothes the character wears greatly resembles the NEETs here in America.
this film may not help you understand the socially withdrawn but it'll show you a true to life depiction of one.
