The X Files (1993)
The greatest and most memorable sci fi ever.
First of all, let me say that i didn't first get involved with the X-Files until after the show ended. I'm only 16 so I wasn't exactly interested in the show's basic idea when the show was at its peak, me preferring laser guns next to an FBI badge. But last summer, I stumbled on a clip on Youtube.com and thought that the idea was very well done. First of all, the show actually plays on the ideas of extra terrestrials (sorry for spelling) and conspiracy theories that plague the thoughts of a lot of people. Next the added mystery that the threat Mulder and Scully face is usually in the shadows, we are usually seeing the threat for the first time at the same time as the agents do. I also think that the idea that only two characters are focused on is interesting. It is one of the few platonic relationships that stayed true for a very long time. Sure, there was that sexual tension that you could cut with a knife but they stayed professional and very good friends. They also threw a bone to the shippers out there, having a kiss here and there and then, finally, having them reunited at the series finale. It has inspired so much pop culture and the male and female team investigating unexplained phenomenon, not to mention mystery series with FBI agents as the stars. All in all, The X-Files is an incredible series that will really surprise you if you give it a chance. Sure it doesn't have laser guns and aliens with different prosthetics every other week, but it has movie like delivery, intricate plot lines and two characters who revolutionized the sci fi world. The Truth is Out There. I love saying that.
Scrubs (2001)
Move over Friends. I got a new favorite show.
I was flipping around the channels one night and I decided to give Scrubs a try. I will be honest and say that I've never been a fan of the whole "Doctor" show excluding House (Go Hugh Laurie!). Anyway, I turned this show on and I was instantly hooked. I found myself falling off my bed, tears in my eyes, laughing so hard. The characters are all so likable and each story is both well thought out and interesting despite the fact that each episode is only half an hour long. I liked this show so much that the next day, I proceeded to rent the entire first season of Scrubs and spent my whole weekend watching episode after episode, laughing myself stupid. The characters are all brilliantly unique and all have their own brand of humor. One of the things that drew me to the show was the character of J.D who reminds me so much of myself. He is now probably my favorite character on television. Sarah Chalke shines as the ditzy but lovable Elliot Reid. Although I don't find him to be as funny as the other characters, Turk is great as the sidekick. Dr. Cox had me at a loss for breath I was laughing so hard after hearing one of his speech/jokes. Carla, although my least favorite on the show, is likable enough which just goes to show the quality of the characters. The Janitor's questionable hatrid of J.D is a great concept. And Dr. Kelso's subtle insults and dimwitted humor round out a cast that rival that of Friends. With J.D's narration of whatever he is thinking whether it be an inner monologue or "Family Guy" like scenarios like J.D portraying Fonzie restarting a heart or signing for a pack of bricks to fall on him after hearing bad news. Needless to say, I've never caught onto a show this fast and, in one half an hour, I have a new favorite show. My only regret was that I started watching halfway through the fifth season. The cancellation of Scrubs is the equivalent of the end of the world.
15/Love (2004)
Wicked Cool! Awesome show for jocks, writers or just if your a teen.
I was laying in bed one night and was flipping around some channels. I then came to YTV and 15/Love. Strangely enough, being a lover of tennis and writing and a teen myself, this show never really appealed to me before. In all honesty, the one thing or rather, person that caught my attention was Cody(Laurence LeBoef)and I experienced my first attraction to a T.V star. But as I began to watch it more and more, I really grew an appreciation to the show. Although I find that the relationships in the show, except for Cody and Squib, are all shortlived and one-shot, the teens experience a lot of things teens nowadays feel: Competition, respect for you friends and falling in love. Quite personally, to round this off, I say move over O.C., take a hike Dawson's Creek. Teen comedy and drama, thy name is 15/Love.
