Having just finished watching this with my family, I'm was pleasantly surprised by how this movie still managed to be a fun watch. Granted it wasn't superb by any means, but seeing all this negative reviews, I felt compelled to share my experience and let people know to give this movie a chance. Here's my breakdown:
Pros: 1) David Dhawan directed this movie. Only fair for him to do both the original and remake 2) If there's ever any actor that can come remotely close to Govinda, it's def Varun Dhawan. He did well in this role 3) Supporting cast was fun to watch as these are all legends and only David Dhawan is able to bring them all together on-screen
Cons: 1) Instead of a remake, this should have been a sequel. It would have been fun to see David Dhawan continue to story of the original to create something new and refreshing, possibly with Govinda reprising his role and Varun playing his son 2) Needed an original soundtrack. It's one thing to copy one classic song and put it within a new movie nowadays, but to do basically the entire soundtrack of the original goes a bit too far. Let the classic songs stay as classics and let's create some new music, especially bringing back the 90s legends such as Kumar, Alka, Udit, etc. 3) The on-screen chemistry of Varun and Sara didn't really work as well as one would like. I believe either having Varun paired with someone else or giving Sara more on-screen time would help to develop more chemistry since this is a new pair. Sara is still young and finding her groove.
Overall, go in not expecting to be mind-blown and treat it as a fun masala movie that has its moments.
