Thou may enjoy thy film, but I won't.
23 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Based on the original screenplay by William Shakespeare, Romeo + Juliet attempts to take more of a modern approach to the film, but in my opinion fails to deliver. Don't get me wrong, some aspects of the film were at most "meh", but I found the film bizarre and also scrappily put together. Don't get me wrong people will still find enjoyment out of this film depending on their taste, but I just found this to be a somewhat weak comedy with a few scenes of romance.

The plot: very similar if not just an adaptation of the original screenplay. There isn't much to say here, apart from the fact that they more or less used all the original lines from Shakespeare's classic. This is very interesting and it's nice that they experimented with this, despite making the film even more confusing as I constantly try to decide whether this film is based in the past or the present.

The characters seem to be relatively corny and while they have their dialog to characterize them which actually lets them stand out from the minor characters, they also have a sort of comedic twist to them (seriously how is this not a comedy?). A good example of this is Mercutio. At the start of the film, he was wearing bizarre clothes, and I'm not joking when I say that I thought his character was supposed to be a reference to how women didn't act in Shakespearian times, as it was thought to be "unladylike". The characters themselves were executed relatively fine; nothing more, nothing less.

The music used a blend of classic songs with more late 90s songs. While this was an interesting mix, this somehow worked. With the tone of the film being fairly light hearted and cheesier then dark and edgy on some scenes, the songs worked to make it feel like a parody of Romeo and Juliet. I still don't know if it is a parody or not, but I can't be bothered to research it.

Overall, this film was decent at most and also bizarre and annoying at most. At the end I kept screaming "JUST LOOK DOWN ROMEO OH MY GOD", before Romeo was about to poison himself. I found this moment unrealistic, as if you're going to show the character die, don't make them start to wake up in that moment and instead wake up as Romeo is dying, unless this was intentional of course, so good job on that. Overall, I found this film at most funny and at least corny. I'd give this film a 6/10.

The Help (2011)

The Help is a must-see!
10 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Recently, I have re-watched 'The Help', and I can already say, the film is even better the second time I've watched it. This film is a true masterpiece and I'm surprised that people disliked the film. Still, opinions are opinions, and it seems that they have their own. In this review, I will go through a summary of the film, talk about the characters, the presentation, the problems and my opinions on the film.

The story is about an aspiring author named Skeeter choosing to interview black women to write a book full of their views on situations. During the story, many scenes occur emphasizing the discrimination back in the 1960s. The jokes that show up in this film are hilarious and the scenes of drama are done perfectly. You feel empathy for the main characters when they're put in certain situations which could end up changing for the worst. To sum it up, the story was brilliant and I couldn't find any problems or flaws with the story.

The characters each have their own unique personalities and stories. Unlike Frozen, the characters and support characters actually mean something. They have stories that leave you in tears. Minny is a hilarious character and has two lines that stay in your mind for a while. Skeeter is a very interesting character. The story emphasises her desire to write a book, and eventually, that dream comes true. Abileen is very three dimensional and has many great moments. She is a great character because without her in the plot, the story wouldn't be able to develop. Overall, the characters are brilliant and even the smaller characters are as good as the main.

The presentation is great. The lighting is vibrant and smooth, and the houses and sets are bright and spacious. The trees and plants in this film are bright and green. One thing I like about the lighting is how the film is possibly set in summer. They have obviously done a good job with the lighting, and it makes the film's scenery pop.

With every film comes a problem. One of the problems of the film was too careful not to offend anyone. They held back on the truth of what the times were like back then, but I'm sure they wanted to keep this film at a 12+ rating. Another problem is how saturated the lighting is. Yes I was praising the lighting for looking smooth and vibrant, but the colours seem unrealistically bright at times. In conclusion, I think this film has done a good job with showing off 1960s America without going overboard. While they may hold back on a few aspects, they make it up to you with hilarious comedy, great drama and memorable quotes. If you see this film in the shop, I recommend buying it to see how it holds up for you. I give this film an 8/10.

Frozen (I) (2013)
3/10
I think it's time to let it go.
26 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Before I go into this review, I'm just going to say: I hate Frozen. For three years, kids have been constantly buying their merchandise, singing their songs and rejoicing that it is the best film ever. And it's not always just the kids. I can understand why Frozen is liked by many, but at the same time I can't. How can a film last for three years. I will first talk about the story, the character development, the music, the presentation and my point of view on how the film is so successful and 'good'.

The plot is very bland and it's all over the place. To have a good successful film you need a great plot, something that this film doesn't have. There seems to be no character development in the plot either, but we'll get to that soon. The climax is so weak and the main villain is the good guy cliché is strong in this. However, the story isn't the worst thing about this film...

The characters are so two dimensional. Elsa has nothing promising about her character apart from her ice powers. By 'conceal', I think she means hold back the character development.. Anna is just a clumsy princess with a fun and energetic nature. I've heard that one about 20 times... Olaf is just placed in the film for the sake of comedy. He's just a character that's there to attempt to make the film funny, but it just makes the film cringe worthy. The other characters are empty shells just there for the sake of making the film a bit more crowded.

The music is quite forgettable and bland. When people talk about the soundtrack being good, they're only talking about 'Let it go'. This song has been overplayed, overpraised and it is overrated. The lyrics are terrible and the chorus is lazy.

If I can praise this film for anything, it's the animation. The animation is great and vibrant. The character designs are decent and the backgrounds and effects are high quality, and you can tell that they spent all their effort on the presentation. Probably explains the lack of effort on the other categories.

This is not only my opinion, but mostly true on why the film is still popular: the children. This film was made for children. But why? Steven Universe, Adventure Time and other kids shows have good plot, animation and music, and they're for children, so what is this films excuse? Adults even enjoy some kid shows. The children encourage businesses to feed off their excitement. Overdosing on toys, songs and spin offs. There's probably even going to be a sequel that's even worse than before, with even more bland characters and long lasting music. I'm afraid of what kids films have come too. Disney. Please stop...

Huge Story From The Eyes of a Child
16 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I've recently just watched the film, and… It's brilliant. The film fires up your emotions as you look at the phenomenal friendship of Bruno and Shmuel. This film will test you as the irresistible plot keeps you asking for more. I was impressed by how they were able to change a book into a huge journey. The story takes place back in the Holocaust. We see a boy called Bruno running with his friends as the title credits play. He then moves into a new town at Outwith where he struggles to cope with his new home. He journeys off into the wilderness and finds a boy called Shmuel on the other side of the fence. We then see their friendship evolve immensely as they continue to see each other every day. Later on, Bruno promises Shmuel to try and find his father after Bruno had betrayed Shmuel. The following event that occurs contains dark scenery, a breath taking climax. Unfortunately, the friends die together burning. The mood in these scenes will make the emotional weep for their loss. Overall, the story is brilliant and contains a lot of twists that will test the viewer. One thing I dislike about the film is how they cut out two interesting scenes from the book. Despite being an adaption and re-written, I think that those two scenes would create more tension and effect to the performance of the film. On top of that, the quality of the film balanced out the disadvantages. The lighting is absolutely perfect and it seems to contrast in some scenes. In the camp, the lighting is dark and gloomy, and at the beginning the lighting is gold and bright. Huge differences in effects like this give variety to the film. I could compare this film to War Horse because of the drama and variety of effects. Bruno is a typical nine year old who has a good manner and a love for adventure books. He is a great character to associate with Shmuel. Speaking of Shmuel, Shmuel is an original and kind character who easily forgives and has a heart of gold. The worst character for me is Maria. Because of her missing a scene from her book, her character seems two dimensional and doesn't get as much screen time as Bruno. Also Gretel isn't as full of character as in the book. Fortunately, those are the only issues I have with the characters. In conclusion, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is phenomenal. I think that they did a great job with this movie. The plot is brilliant. The twists are unexpected and this is a breath taking experience overall. I'll give this film an 8.5/10

Travel back in time for a great adventure!
14 November 2015
I just came back from watching this and oh boy this exceeded my expectations. I just love the build up and the climax of this story, and also how it plans out. I'm going to go over some details so the people thinking about watching this can read this and get persuaded.

The story is very interesting for a regular show episode. It takes part in the past present and future, but I'm not going to ruin the details. I just love seeing the characters interact with each other, and I also love how the story ends. One last bit of comedy.

The animation is a higher budget regular show style. Exact same as the actual series, but with some things that tell you that this is a film. Kinda like spongebob the movie (The first one). Also love how some items in this world seem 3D.

The music... I found myself digging out to this music and also the intro song. I've gotta find the full version somewhere. Also love how certain songs play in certain scenes. It really does help set the scene.

I have no idea why one of the reviewers hated this, but I'd say this is a good special and I can't really find any problems with it. This is a great film and I don't recommend seeing this at the cinemas, but at home with blu ray. This isn't the sort of film to be shown at the cinema, but the film to be seen at home.

One thing I can point out is that there's less comedy. I think they were going for this style however just to make this film more serious and engaging. This film still has its share of funny jokes, so you don't need to worry.

For now, I'd say this is a great film with a good balance of action, drama but slightly less comedy.

Scooby-Doo (2002)

The Scooby Doo Doo
7 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Sigh...

This joke has been done before, but there's more Doo Doo than Scooby and there's more Crappy than Scrappy..

Where do I begin? I'm torturing myself just to review my thoughts on this film for you guys. Just going to hop straight into it.

The beginning starts off with a bloody hip hop yo yo Scoob piece of crap. The song sounds cheap and too modern for my liking. Representing the kids nowadays and their love for Drake and Kanye West. Surprisingly enough, it ends at the typical scooby episode with Daphne already bloody captured by nothing. Why do I say nothing, because the CGI is horrible. I've seen better CGI In goldeneye's opening sequence. I mean dear god! The ghost looks like a stock footage paste in and doesn't fit in with the background. Scooby now looks like a freakish dog mutant. There are such pleasant images in this film for its crappy cgi. Also makes no sense how they literally quit after completing the mystery. Even worse than the reason of why Spider Man quit in Spider Man 2!

Since I'm bored of reviewing this awful excuse I'm just going to say that the monster is REAL and the bloody villain is Scrappy. Everyone is out of character, they'd never do what they did to scrappy on the original franchise. This film can go to hell...

We'll need dragon balls to revive all the characters killed in this atrocity!
7 November 2015
NO NO NO NO NO! Unbelievable! How could anyone think this was a good idea. I don't even want to go into the plot. So I'm just going to try and get off this crappy film and try and review it as fast as possible for people thinking of watching this.

The acting is god awful. Wrong casting everywhere. Bulma doesn't have blue hair and acts NOTHING like she did in the original. Nobody is right in this atrocity. A fact: The director didn't watch dragon ball z at all. It's always a good idea to give a director who doesn't know anything about the franchise to direct the film. Bloody brilliant.

The effects. Oh those low budget effects. Two words: Hand Fart. Kamehameha looks like a freaking blue air pulse thing, and nothing about the moves had their explosive effect as they did in the original. The cgi sweat is plain embarrassing and I'm sure I could do better by inserting spheres in blender and covering them with stock footage textures.

I'm not sure what they were thinking, but for the love of god: DO NOT MAKE A ANIME A LIVE ACTION FILM!

Steven Universe (2013–2019)
10/10
Where do I begin with this work of art?
7 November 2015
I overlooked this show at first sight. Thought it looked stupid and thought that Steven's voice was annoying as heck. Once I saw the first episode, I didn't just see what could be one of the greatest show for all ages that was animated, but a remarkable effort. Unlike the previous titles I have reviewed, I've seen potential to become even bigger than this is now.

The stories can range from basic to mysterious stories that can go up to two parts. They're not too complicated and hard to remember, but not too bland and dull and stereotypical. My favourite episodes so far were Prison Break and Full Disclosure. To me, this has a slight feel of adventure time. I wonder why? Probably because one of the directors from Adventure Time created this? Eh.

The music is great, and can range from the song about the plot and even the intro song. I love listening to the full version showed at comic con and also American Cartoon Network. As I'm British, I had to watch it online, but I actually had chills listening to the song. I had never experience such great music from a kids show apart from Adventure Time. The lyrics of the songs are not random, but make perfect sense on why they're said.

The characters each have something special about them. Like how Amethyst is a messy one, Pearl is clean and gentle, Steven is fun and also caring and Garnet (who has earned the title of my favourite character) is serious at times but shows wiseness. She also seems like the best influence for Steven.

Here comes the best bit. The animation is... Smooth, vibrant, colourful, artistic. It has a warm feeling for the backgrounds and locations in Steven Universe. They make the characters blend into the environment and I'm happy to say that this is the best animation on Cartoon Network and Nicktoons.

If you have nothing to watch, check this out. It's an admirable piece of animation, and I think the people that hate this must be insane.

Uncle Grandpa (2010–2017)

If they keep making these shows, CartoonNetwork is doomed.
7 November 2015
Besides from having awful animation, horrific images and characters, this show is awful. Put this next to Steven universe. Hard to believe that they both got a crossover. The worst and best show of cartoon network. Sounds like their attempt to make it better, but instantly backfiring.

Pizza Steve is the way of making a child have a cool hero. You call this fool cool? I call him a wimp who I hope gets eaten.

Uncle Grampa is a fat short excuse for a character. He literally resembles the devil in my opinion due to his way to teleport randomly and his head switches places and his arms come out of nowhere. The animation is an excuse to be as messed up as possible. I mean by god the images.

Mr Gus is supposed to be the only logical person there. The squid ward who gets tortured for no reason.

Giant Realistic Flying Tiger is an awful photoshop of a bunch of tiger stock photos put together.

This show is awful, its story and animation are awful and If I saw this guy close to me, I'd back the hell up. Don't watch this.

Teen Titans Go! (2013– )
2/10
A Show That Ruined The Teen Titans
7 November 2015
Before I go deep into this review I'm just going to summarise it up: A poor excuse of a program ripping off the original teen titans.

I'm disgusted. Absolutely have no idea why people actually like this. I blame the children. Anyways. I'm going to go through the bad about it, as I see no positive things to say about this.

First of all, the animation is terrible. From what I've heard, the animation runs at 20 FPS. Like an old PS2 game. The character designs are god awful and the main cast look like they're 4 in terms of height. They also look too skinny and bright. The original animation had shading and natural colours instead of barfing them on the screen and arranging them into the teen titans. The backgrounds are cheap, and the show seems to only have like six backgrounds. It's effort like this that disgusts me.

The jokes are... How do I put it: Cheap. Bland, and stupid. Also too many pop culture references. The meanings in the shows are stupid and the reason why this generation are stupid. The only word I can use for this show is stupid. In one episode, Robin messed up his hair and while he fixes it, he comes across Goku's hair style. How forced was that? I mean they couldn't even get his hairstyle right. Back onto topic, the jokes are a waste of time and parents will crack a disgusted face when they hear them.

The action is bland. Nothing else.

The music. Oh boy the music. Just listen to Tofu in my mouth and peace and love. The music is annoying and the lyrics are cheap and predictable. I mean why is the music in there in the first place? It adds NOTHING TO THE PLOT! And some songs are cringeworthy *COUGH* WAFFLES *COUGH*

The moral of the story. If you're going to remake teen titans, please watch the original show. Yes. They didn't even watch the original show, yet they got to remake it. Why?! The characters are nothing like they used to be, Starfire has even more broken dialog and this is an awful show. Don't watch this for your own sake. Just watch the original series. That'll be more worth your time than this atrocity.

Frozen Fever (2015)
Oh boy here we go again.
6 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Oh boy here we go again. Even more annoying characters. The only reason Disney released this was to get the children off their lazy arses. I mean... wow... What a way to make money. Another bland special with bland jokes and one dimensional characters. Just as bad as the film. Oh boy Olaf's back to be a useless pile of H2O. Oh boy! Even after watching this I've noticed that the characters are even more annoying and stupid as they were in the original film. Even more cheap songs with lines of song from the original film. Is this literally just a copy paste film? Perhaps so... The plot: It's Anna's birthday. Thats all. Cheap plot, songs, advertising and references! All builds up to a crappy film. One thing I also hate is how they have conversations in bloody song. Probably because they can't act. Another annoying thing is how this entire bloody special is a full-blown six minute song. I kid you not. Little to no acting. Laziness. Here comes even more merchandise! And by the time of frozen 2 even more merchandise will come. It's a loophole of making money for Disney.

After watching these two films I've learned that these are programming the kids literally. With awful messages and songs. This is all a trap to send kids into buying their merchandise, and it's all because something as innocent as frozen is trusted. Do not watch this film. I don't recommend it. It's not a classic nor good in any way. This film and this special is overrated, and I can't see why they make millions off of children.
