Disappointed
1 March 2024
The movie felt rushed. It felt disconnected to it's predecessor and missed to impress on a lot of areas. Sure it was visually stunning, other than there wasn't much I liked about it. Hopefully they can resurrect in the finale.

Nearly 3 hours to build something magical and incredible like they did in the first film and they dropped the ball. The acting was inconsistent and disappointing. Not sure how you flop this bad when the first film was done so right.

However that being said usually the second film of a trilogy is to build the story which they did in this film. I liked the original Dune better in this regard even though they didn't give us much. Let's see if they can close the series out properly.

A Well-Earned Bravo

Do not think, just watch. Save your neurons for the resplendent masterpiece which awaits you. I knew the moment my local comic store owner gave me the green light on the series it was going to be a winner.

I am awarding this a 9 because it is almost a perfect show. It handled the LGBTQ issues well and didn't sound preachy or proselytizing. I enjoyed the concept of Danny the Street because I lived on Santa Monica Boulevard and La Jolla and it reminded me of Hamburger Mary's and the surrounding clubs.

The show achieves a brilliance in its conceptual play and employs a very polished script. Not many holes to poke in this one. Pure enjoyment that doesn't stale like Legion did. I was basically done with Legion after Season 1. Doom Patrol still has me on the edge of my seat halfway into Season 2, and doesn't look like it will give any time soon.

Other than maybe MODOK or What if?, this is a very unique comic-inspired show. It has all the great elements you love in a good comedy, drama, even a thriller, packed into one show. Plus it's in the DC Universe....sold from Episode 1.

Really Missed An Opportunity Here
22 November 2022
As an Aqua Teen Fan from season 1 all those years ago during college, the nostalgia making me a lifelong fan, I was super disappointed in this film. It felt like an extended episode and not a good one at that. Felt disconnected.

Think about what Family Guy did with their Star Wars parodies, that's great storytelling. Let's be honest the last ATHF movie wasn't the best either. If they do another film I hope they push the envelope, do something really of the box, you're ATHF for crying out loud!

I did like the Neil character, but cannot say the same for others. They felt uninteresting. Not sure if anyone noticed but the guy who does Carl's/meatwad's voice seemed to have some sinus issues going on for some of the voice work. Sounded stuffed up slash nasaly.

I have faith before it's over ATHF will not let me down, you got this!

Simulcra and Simulation

How could a film this atrocious be allowed into the Matrix repertoire? Why even make another if the story and acting were going to be this disappointing? It's a slap in the face to all of us who were forever changed by the first Matrix film.

Whoever was in charge of casting should be ousted from Hollywood for eternity. Not sure it could get much worse than this. Matrix: Revolutions is an award winning film compared to Resurrections. Morpheus, the Analyst and the pathetic performance of Smith were downright embarassing for a Hollywood picture. I now have to pretend this film was never created. Whatever you do Lana Wachowski, do not make another film. Please.

Shame On You
23 December 2019
There is so much they could have done with the first live-action Pokemon film and this is what they give us? Shame on you!

Pokemon fans deserve so much more than what was delivered in this soulless, actionless film. I hope the next one lives up to anything beyond this drab.

Not The Worst Film I've Seen
30 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not the worst film I've seen

I must preclude this review by saying that I am very partial to the del Toro duology, but I feel I have been very fair and non-discriminate against the new lead actor - David Harbour - and the new director.

The movie runs a bit slow as I found myself pausing more often than I typically do - for me personally this is indicative of a flick being slightly boring or not catching my attention completely. It picks up the pace about half way through.

David Harbour plays Hellboy fairly (not as naturally as Perlman, but likeable nonetheless) and had me chuckling quite a few times throughout the two hours. In fact, I noticed an abundance of comedic implants that gave the film a boost. This was a noticeable contrast to the darker, anger-laced portrayals which created a predominant dualism in his character.

The script is written in a way that it's hurried and presumptively and suffers because of it. I think overall the plot is very cliche and a go-to of sorts for superhero films. In that respect it scores very average, hence my rating of a 5 out of 10.

Hellboy's father and the scenes involving him were bland, I think a more unique actor could have been the missing element in that regard.

Milla Jovovich seemed decent enough as the hellbent witch; nothing compared to say Cara Delevigne's performance in Suicide Squad. Nevertheless, Jovovich is sexy enough for me to close up shop on the B.P.R.D. and explore being king while we're ravaged the Earth. The manner in which Hellboy's immaturity was portrayed seemed annoying, Perlman nailed that aspect of the red demon's personality whereas Harbour had trouble blending it into his overall persona.

Spoiler: I suppose Baba Yaga will get revenge in the sequel, judging by how the film ended - I was really anticipating the closing of that encounter as the makeup/costume and acting made Yaga a demonically delectable addition to the various caricatures.

Spoiler: Abe Sapien! It's obvious his discovery and membership to the B.P.R.D. will be part of the sequel. Curious to see who they will cast, hard to compete with Doug Jones.

In closing I feel comfortable with a sequel, Harbour acts well and for all intents and purposes fulfills the classic image of Hellboy. Sasha Lane is a fantastic addition as well and deserves a place in the next film.

Deathwish

How these guys did not experience a gut-wrenching death is beyond me. Half of the documentary is of them acting like prepubescent kids, one runs in front of a car giggling like a moron, countless scenes of them all scurrying about the many cities they traverse literally acting like fools. They do not even climb K2 due to weather. Complete crapshoot.

Funny, character development lacking, a few other notes...
3 August 2019
First off, this is a funny film, the comedic interjections are fairly well placed and of good humor. However, you may be caught off guard by a few elements.

My first pet peeve with the Tom Holland-Peter Parker is that we have lost touch with Parker's scientific-geeky side, and where is the camera at, am I right? The second issue was the vacancy in Mysterio's character development and the failed dropshot throwback to his true identity. Then there is Mary Jane, which is a combination of awkward and tom-boyishness that seems offputting among other things.

The shotty plot and half-decent relationship building make the film watchable but honestly for Marvel collectors like myself, a pain in the rear to have to buy in order to fulfill the obligatory "Marvel Bluray Collection". Tom Holland isn't the worst SpiderMan, but the writing and acting were off and I think he can redeem himself in the next film. We shall see.
