Sleepers (1996)
Rather naive acting... and a joke of a trial
Well, it's a catholic movie wannabe
The acting is rather poor, although really big names of cinema acting are involved in this movie.
The trial is not realistic at all. The guard demasking himself is a little forced, he could have denied the questions all the way, the prosecutor should have objected the questions, as they were part of another issue, and surely the lawyer could have said that he is trying to make a point, that is - the victim had enemies. He does make this point, but in the movie he doesn't point it at the end of the witness testimony.
I wonder, when the cops interrogated the murderers, how come they didn't claim to be at the game with Father Robert De Niro? You simply cannot come with a breaking news like that with the last key witness, giving a plain alibi to the accused... Please correct me if I'm wrong.
So.... big actors..... poor acting.... weak script... some of the characters very pourly contoured, the girl's character has no solid argument to exist at all, she doesn't help the outcome of the film in any way, she does not decisively influence either the development of the characters or the outcome of the situation.
I'm giving it a 7 just for not being a hater, and the movie is a little old, and the ideas it tries to promote are quite positive, actually, although rather poorly put in scene.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Alzheimer Neo and Trinity hard restart in the winter
Something about the movie reminds me of the terminator franchise... Maybe it's nanoparticle Morpheus or the attempt to literally bring back from the dead the story of the Matrix, and Keanu & Carrie back on screen.
It was easy to understand challenging to do so. You have on one side the wish of the fans who were in love with this movie, and on the other side, the real limitations, actors getting old, or rusted, or the fact that the trilogy was so perfect that it doesn't support a sequel, it cannot be matched or less likely overcomed.
I must recognize I am dissapointed with the movie. I hoped for more... It's like trying to reheat a two week old soup and hope for having a joy eating it. The young actor's acting is poor... Agent Smith is more likely a high-school student, one of them bullies which playes footbal in the school's team... The merovingian's return is not convincing... He has a very small part... like a guest star, I'm thinking the actor was on set between lunch and dinner.
I am very curious if the next sequels will get canceled or not.
Povestea unui pierde-vara (2018)
Nice, smart and sublime
I gave this movie 10 stars because while I was searching on netflix for romanian movies, this one is by far the best one there is.
I do not agree that the lines are badly spoken, on the contrary... amoung romanian movies, this one seems to be really ok.
I liked the actors, they played really good, not fake, like in most romanian movies :).
The story is simple, touching, with a basic morale at the end... Although you could skip it if you are not looking closely. The professor quits on killing the pigeons, after he discovers family love (with his girlfriend and unfortunately, his unborn child).
I is a nice touch of reality... With no swearing or explicit sexual content... Really... balanced experience.
The film left me with a good mood.... no depression like most of romanian movies. So, Romania can be beautiful. Bravo!
