The Marvels (2023)

Haters gonna hate. Watch and enjoy
7 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what all the negative reviewers are all about. Some of the things that are deemed "negative" are actually things I liked about the movie.

:::::SPOILER ALERT::::

A musical number in the middle of a super hero movie? PERFECT! Have you ever seen a Bollywood movie?

The fight scenes in this film are EPIC! Besides the choreographer the film editor needs to be rewarded.

I have to wonder if they filmed each "Marvel" doing the same fight scene and then edit each Marvel in and out?

Is this movie entertaining? Absolutely! AND it intiates conjoining future Marvel movies.

Was Nick Fury used and given weak dialogue? Yes.

Maybe jet lagged from his own series?

This isn't the best Marvel entry but certainly not the worst. I think you have Iron Man 1, End Game, Guardians Of The Galaxy 1, and a tie with all else.

Quit over analyzing and enjoy what's in front of you.

Hellboy (2019)
7/10
This version deserves a viewing
25 March 2023
I am a HUGE fan of the previous incarnations of Hellboy. LOVE them. I was totally prepared to hate this movie. So much so that I never got passed the first 10 minutes until 2023.

It may not be as good as the first Hellboy but neither was the 2nd.

If you wanted your Hellboy to be more like the graphic novels and darker, THIS IS THE ONE.

Forget what all the Internet trolls have said about hating on this movie. David Harbour does a GREAT Hellboy!

I hope they make more of these with him!

I kept waiting for all of the pet cats to show up LOL!

Sorry for writing a review so late in the game but hopefully more people will watch this film and agree that there needs to be more!

This is NOT Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan's worst movie together
15 February 2023
I saw this movie on its first release and thought," That was weird. What did I just watch? " I knew it deserved a revisit 30 years later.

This is an OUTSTANDING movie.

It actually does have a few "special effects" but this is a movie to watch, experience, and let the story take you away.

The initial overwhelming reviews were that this was Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan's worst movie released.

It is not.

And if it is it's by MAYBE 1/2 a star Did I mention that it's a Spielberg movie? It's not even HIS worst movie!

Kathleen Kennedy is also a producer on this movie. Definitely not her worst.

Maybe when I first saw it I couldn't relate to Tom Hank's character "Joe" and laboring in a go nowhere job that was emotionally and physically killing him.

It's possible I needed to be a seasoned adult to really understand that. But that's only part of the movie.

Meg Ryan is an absolute Queen of all rom-coms in this playing multiple roles.

Which couples nicely (maybe hammered in a little) with "Joe's" repeated line of "When I first saw you I could've sworn I had seen you before." It's as if this movie is telling all hopelessly romantic men "Be patient, you'll get YOUR Meg Ryan sooner or later." You just have to ask yourself if you're willing to jump into a volcano for her.

Also, dont be cheap. Invest wisely in your luggage.

Also also: Whenever possible, when traveling abroad, try to sit next to Tom Hanks.

Warning: Spoilers
After watching this again I've decided to bump it up to a 7/10 stars I think my problem I had with it was Eddie Murphy not being the Eddie Murphy I grew up with.

And if I consider that IM not even the same person I grew up with, the movie takes a different feel.

His character in this movie might actually be closer to what Eddie Murphy is in his private life.

If Kenya Barris (cameo air plane scene) played the "Akbar" part my expectations would've been on a different level. Kenya Barris' humor is more subtle than Eddie's.

You can't wait around for Eddie to stick a banana in a tail pipe in this movie.

If you can throw that preconceived notion out, enjoy and learn about the complexities of relationships and prejudices, this movie deserves a viewing.

Are there things and characters I would've liked to have seen more developed? Yes.

I understand that, like all movies, there are deleted scenes that may satisfy my curiosity. I wonder why they needed to edit this down in the first place since it's on Netflix? Maybe because there was a possible theater release?

I would've liked to have seen more scenes with Jonah Hill's character "Ezra" and his sister "Liza" played by Molly Gordon. Their scene in temple and the back and forth dialogue making fun of each other was hilarious. I would've liked to have seen that EVERY time they were in the same room.

On the flip side "Amira" played by Lauren London has a brother "Omar" played by Travis Bennet who is equally as funny and has great "come back" dialogue with Amira and Akbar.

Ezra's relationship with his podcast partner "Mo" played by Sam Jay is also hilariously excellent.

All of these funny relationships might be the reason I expected, any time Eddie Murphy was in a scene, to be LOL hilarious.

* Spoiler *We actually don't see the "Eddie Murphy smile " until the last scene.

Maybe they could've REALLY banked on "the smile"?

But guess what?

I can't WAIT to see a movie about Amira and Ezra raising a child.

Just the arguments of what to name the baby would potentially be comedy gold.

Me Time (2022)

Was hoping for more (?)
5 September 2022
I definitely had some laughs during this film.

As in many movies I have watched as of late I wonder if it the movie works better if the main character roles were reversed? Maybe Mark Wahlberg should've played the stay at home dad and Kevin Hart the "financially challenged party guy"?

I know that life is full of "lack of big happy endings" but this is a MOVIE with BIG names.

It deserved a much bigger payoff at the end.

I was also disturbed about Mark Wahlberg's physical appearance towards the end of the movie. He had obviously lost a lot of weight/mass which didn't play into his character.

Not sure if they thought they needed to shoot an ending scene as an after thought and Wahlberg had already moved on to his next role metamorphosis or what (?) Confusing.

Could've been a much better film in my opinion but I still give it a "5" because of some laughs.

Do not be CON'd by women haters
31 August 2022
Not sure if it's still happening or not, but there just seems to be an awful lot of "reviewers" wanting to hate on anything with a predominately woman cast.

I supposed it is definitely reflective of how there's a percentage of society that sits in disbelief that a woman can do anything a man can do and in some cases better.

Ocean's 8 stands well on its own and well worth the viewing.

I never once thought any character was forced to be a woman.

Just like the previous "Ocean" movies, it's believable that each character in Ocean's 8 have known each other for awhile.

It's good enough that I hope they do a sequel.

Jordan Peele has created an original masterpiece of SciFi Horror!

Daniel Kaluuya is once again acting perfection.

I think Joni Mitchell said it best with her classic hit "Both Sides Now" with the chorus line "I really don't know clouds at all ..."

Maybe we need to watch this again
23 May 2022
Somehow this reincarnation of the Fantastic 4 story escaped me on original release.

I saw it pop up on my Disney+ stream and thought I'd give it a chance.

Since I didn't see it originally I don't know if they've changed the edit or anything but this is definitely worth watching.

Deserved more than a 5 star rating. I gave it a 7 so it probably falls at a 6. It serves well as a beginning chapter of what shoulda/Coulda been a good trilogy.

If you watched back then and didn't enjoy it, watch it again.

If you've never seen it before, forget all other versions and go with this one until John Krazinski makes his!

You need to watch this right now

This is a GREAT "Super Hero " movie. Better than most being served up to us as of late (2021).

I watched this film when it was first released and thought it was pretty good.

Watching again all these years later with the worlds harshest super hero film critic, my 9 year old grandson, I now see that this film is better than most think.

Love, family, Super Hero, yes some violence, but also comedy.

And for me, one of the best plot twists ever. No spoiler here. You have to watch it!

Rutherford Falls is worth bingeing!
12 May 2021
Out of the handful of new sitcoms that have launched, THIS one seems to have kept my interest the most.

It started kinda iffy but I am currently watching the season finale and I'm hooked.

Definitely a series that benefits from the option of bingeing.

If I had to wait a whole week for an episode I might have forgotten about it. Now I can't WAIT for the next season!πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½ πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

Anybody that rates this movie above 5/10 is being paid to do so. Cut out half the special effects budget and put it back into the script writing.

Not the best
26 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Streamed on HBOMAX. If you can't make it thru a movie at home without falling asleep, there's a problem with the movie. It took me at LEAST four tries to get thru this film. When you have to compare it to the first Wonder Woman, this one pales significantly. First one had charm. This one made me feel like Wonder Woman not only feels trapped as a being with super powers but also trapped in her day job as a museum curator. Maybe it's because it's been 70 years since she lost her boyfriend and hasn't gotten over it? I'm pretty sure there is adequate therapy for that in town and ESPECIALLY back in Themyscira. This film POSSIBLY works as that middle to end grief period of a relationship break up and NOW things will start to feel better. So heres to looking forward to the third Wonder Woman sighting now that she's "officially" over her 100 year old boyfriend. I mean, really?!? THATS all you could come up with in saying goodbye to Steve Trevor? In fairness, it's to be expected since saying "hello" wasn't very imaginative either. Lazy.

In semi-typical fashion it started a little slow in interest for me but I watched the first episode and said,"Ok, one more..." And then of course you get the obligatory, "Well, I HAVE to see what happens next.." which is followed by, "Well, who the hell is THIS character?" And then of course the reaction of, " Oh Hell Naw!" Which proceeds the ever popular, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?" But then you get the "Oh I got this" episode. Only to be smacked by the " Whoa.... didn't see THAT coming" show. Which all is summed up with "More please.."

bravo πŸ‘πŸΎNetflix, Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler & Russian Doll πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ

Go see it for YOURSELF
30 May 2018
For anyone giving this movie a bad review: What movie did you see?!? This movie definitely holds its own. It has a "one off" vibe from the rest of the Star Wars universe but isn't it supposed to? Alden Ehrenreich is an outstanding young Han Solo. Emilia Clarke is SO good in this. One might feel she's channeling Lanister blood. How good is this movie? It deserves a sequel. THAT good. Thankful they didn't make the mistake of Rogue One and kill EVERYBODY.

It's not Breaking Bad, Sneaky Pete , or the Ozarks
17 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
We did binge the entire series in a couple days. Parts are riveting but minor continuity glitches are distracting. Also everybody but "dad" speaks in a whisper or Batman growl. Just needed attention to some details to make it more believable. For instance: If you've been beat and kept in an aquarium for 6 years you still have the strength to climb up the side of a building and run cross country and only eat a candy bar with a swallow of water? Taking a breather and maybe a shower would have helped. Also the last time I tried my battery powered tape recorder that's been sitting in storage for around six years it needed new batteries.
