Lucky (2017)
Harry Dean Stanton deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award
What can you say about this movie and this performance. It resonated with me in so many ways. The existential journey was so perfectly centered in this character. The dialogue, the character development, and the story that was proffered were perfectly in sync. One of the best films I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. I'll be going back to this time and time again.
Jue di tao wang (2016)
Jackie Chan at his worst.
Look, I am a huge Jackie Chan fan and I have seen quite a few of his films that were accessible to American audiences. He has done some remarkable movies in his day. Anyone the hasn't seen Police Story 1 or 2 is missing some of the most hardcore action ever put to film. Legend of the Drunken Master is a classic film. Project A, Armour of the Gods, Rumble in the Bronx, Rush Hour, and on and on and on. I love Jackie Chan.
This film however is bad. I mean capital B A D. The action sequences are poorly filmed. The dialogue is terrible. The story progression is horrendous. The acting is atrocious. I wanted to like this movie...I really did. Jackie Chan has broken down so many barriers. His comedic style is something that has given me laughs upon laughs for years. But it just doesn't work this time.
I chalk it up to a poor script, the fact that he is probably slowing down some in his older age, and just bad direction, bad writing, and horrible editing.
Watch at your own risk.
The X Files: Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster (2016)
Absolutely the most amusing of all episodes.
OK, first review of a show I have written, and only because this episode cemented the reasons this show needs a new, full run. Absolutely the funniest episode ever. I rate it above Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose in which Peter Boyle gave a hilarious performance. This should go down as the best X-Files episode ever. Congrats to the writer, the director, and the producer. I hope that following episodes meet the standard that has been set. I knew David could be funny, but Gillian? She really pulled a were-rabbit out of her hat on this one. She showed a comedic timing that I found spot-on and left me wanting to see more. The fox mask in the Motel looking into Scully's room from the hidden passage was magically on the nose.
