much better than expected. good watch
13 April 2024
I expected a incredibly basic sexy smut fantasy fighting movie, low budget atomic blonde with dragons.

Unfortunately there's no sex. But it made up for that with cool twists and turns that i didn't see coming inside the otherwise somewhat "generic" dragon fighting story.

The character are a lot less shallow than i expected. And the special effects and art are MUCH better than i expected. Really good actually.

GOT's CGI would constantly take me out of the series. The incredibly basic landscapes. The bad blending. Meanwhile here i was thinking to myself. Dang, this is filmed on a bluescreen huh. She isn't actually riding a dragon. This took me off guard. Didn't expect it to be this good.

Honestly. If you're expecting an incredibly deep and meaningful fantasy story, it isn't it. But if you want an awesome story about a cool girl fighting a dragon, then definitely grab some popcorn.

They created a landscape and made navigating it a core feature of the movie. There's decent worldbuilding too.

I'd give it a 7,5 if it's allowed. It ain't cinema but it's a hella good watch and i didn't feel distracted or annoyed. Actually very much got into it.

grounded slow family drama
10 February 2023
Carried by acting, this is a grounded family drama. With some new and some familiar faces.

Troughout the whole movie i felt like i could be there, The low fi way it was filmed, very grounded, no huge space battles, no explosions, all close up. No drone shots and other magic.

The story is filmed like a indie film, however the props are incredible well made. I could not pick out items. They're all used, they fit, and everything belongs in it's place.

It is not a perfect movie. But the reason why it scores so low can only be a matter of expectations. I saw the same with apple's invasion (series). People see sci fi and expect star wars like space battles. Thankfully movie directors still dare to tell other stories, stories like this one.

Bonus, when the main character got operated on.. yeah i felt that in my bones. Incredible work.

American
17 January 2023
The director took a chug of all american sugar water. Ate one of the states signature stolen dishes. Jacked of too their stolen flag, sacrificed a piece of chlorinated chicken to their copy pasted (holy) constitution. He then got in his gasoline leaking pick up truck. Drove 5 meter to his desk. Took a nasa space pen. Stuffed it up something american, then hired an mexican intern to write the most american story he could imagine. And he delivered. A script so utterly american. Unless you've lost your braincells to hamburger disease (vitamine deficiency) and salute the liberian flag every morning you just won't get it.

weak on every level except the animation.
28 November 2022
60% of every episode consists of weak softporn and sexual themes that crush not only the mind but also the soul and make you question the value of humanity and especially the Japanese and weeaboo cultural sphere.

Incredibly subhuman low level basic fan service.

Absolutely non-sensical inconsistent worldbuilding.

Kindergarten level dialogue.

Tardigrade level episode by episode story structure.

The good part is that the animation is good, the fan art is fun. And it's a good laugh, but you can say the latter from *the room* too.

The character construction is weaker than a dead rolly polly floating in a bad tub filled with molten tuk-tuk tires

The in and outro's are more interesting than the whole story. Excellent animation.

Unsettling dark fantasy / sci-fi
6 October 2022
Visual masterpiece, unsettling art direction, interesting worldbuilding. Mostly carried by the visuals, but that's intentional. I liked it.

I really appreciate the references to current developments in agricultural gene editing. And the will to create neutral biology (plants don't choose sides, no "evil tree"). Protect themselves.

It's very unsettling but not cheap horror. A lot of prop making and sci went into this. Hard work and it paid off. Altho i hope they didn't get too much into it considering one custume designer died during filming.. let's hope she didn't get incorporated as a prop..

Audio is very good too.

tragedy and fable filled with social criticism and references.
4 October 2022
Entertaining, gripping and dramatic, no calm till the end.

Filled with political and social criticism relating to France's colonial past and present day issues which might be missed by an international audience, yet if you don't you'll easily place them into your own location.

I appreciate the effort to not make it a plainly left or right wing view but to showcase the humanity in each character. On each side of the aisle, even in the cops. Appreciate the scenes reminding of the storming of the bastille, ancient greek myth and dramatic battle scenes, that somehow manage to fit into a concrete city block in france.

I have respect for the movie, yet i understand that it isn't for everyone. It's more art, more fable, than dramatic action thriller. Although it's beautifully filmed.

Highly recommend watching it in french. Even if you don't speak french like me. The voices speak so much more.

watched it blindly without prep, so much fun.
30 September 2022
So glad i did no research whatsoever. Laughed my %$# off and my lil bro too. Didn't even read the bio, just clicked, watched.

I could go in depth but it's just plain fun.

SFX's are way too good tho and so is the action, absolutely legit!

Then again, directed by a stunt man so.. to be expected.

I don't really give stuff a 10 normally but.. what tf more could i expect lmao.

It a story bout a pool cleaner named bud who hunts vampires with snoop dog.

Also the characters.. so in depth. Acting is legit too.

Well.. except for snoop, he's just snoop.

Apparently i need more characters so have the lyrics to the ending song:

Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud

Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud

Yeah, ay I think I just missed my flight see through the lights light 'Cause we been on champagne all damn night It's a masquerade Came thirty-deep in the Escalade Then I turned her she better bring her friends I'm stuck in the middle like Malcolm again

Woo, that's my best friend Woo, no wedding But if I did Then Bud'd have to be my best man Hit me

Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Best friend Bud, with my best friend Bud Bud...

Everybody's here BSB Boys Sam

We 'bout to get the party started Everybody, get they vampire license ([?]) mowing down vans (Here we go) with my best friend Bud Hit me

She got her veins out But my shotgun van 'bout to ring out Blow her whole brains out [?] pouring champagne out [?] pulling things out Million dollar wheel 'bout to sing out Tell the world but a [?] named buddy Pissed as hell and be out of love

Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Hold up, hold up Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud, Bud

Look into my eyes and tell me what it is you see I can see the obstacles before they hinder me Ain't running from the party, party Ain't scared of nobody, body Ain't afraid to lose control I'm mowing down vans with my best friend Bud

Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud Hit me Switch it up Mowing down vans with my best friend Bud.

they let an artist create the world. and a director / writer make the stories.
18 August 2022
And it shows. Everything feels grounded.

I appreciate how they basically gave every character a story. Even the "basic" ones turn out to get their own episode, every side character can be the main in the next episode.

I really hope this stile of storytelling will become a thing in other stuff too. It's really fun.

I have ADD so the slow style of editing is hard to concentrate on but i still wanted to see every episode. Skipped trough some romance for example. I know, unacceptable haha. But i still love it.

Honestly. Making movies based on still artworks.. yeah i can get behind that.

Like it because it's a take on the "technocrat utopia" being called for by big tech like my man elongated muskrat and mark (sweet baby rays) the zucc. Complete with yoga, AI, organic, basically all the buzzwords you can ask for.

And of course it doesn't go as planned. But not in a predictable kinda way.

Currently on episode 5. Good acting, good cgi. Good story. Just not the usual pewpew lazers stuff we've come to know and hate from holywood. Good change. Welcome one too.

Basic story, good art, animation, audio.
13 July 2022
Kinda depressing that such a great team had to make another basic environmentalist story a la "train your dragon". Very predictable. There was a time when kids learned to hunt, to TRUELY know nature. Now we see people try to have picknicks next to lions. Everyday i hope for a story to correct it al. To kill moby dick and harvest his amber instead of open thy cheeks for the big white one.

I do like that it has cursing, weapons, alcohol and no p*ssy editing. There's still hope. One day i hope we'll realize the "holy indian" is a lie and we'll return to a time where we can feed the lions in the zoo again without warning signs.

Still, entertaining enough, def succeeded as a kids movie. Art is neat too. Lovely animation. Voice acting is perfect.

I like the part with the rubber log and the construction foam hallway scene.

Joking aside, the acting is pretty decent. The props very cheap and the CGI, honestly not bad. Low budget action flick, works decent enough, def not boring.

28 June 2022
As someone who's used to hearing 5 different languages in the train i loved how they implemented the way to bridge the language / culture gab in it's universe. The characters are all fun. Heck of a ride. Pretty long too. Spend 3 evenings watching it bit by bit.

As an artist i loved the effects and worldbuilding too! So colorful and honestly just plain no bs cool. Was convinced it was a adaptation of an anime or something. Because it seemed way too detailed in the end. But it isn't haha.

Can spew more bs but just watch it. Especially if you're a fan of EU and other non US movies, also def a hint of anime influence. Such a shame i only now found it. Would love more like this. So happy with netflix's push for more international content.

As someone who's into both prepping and drawing i am surprised to see those both combine.

Acting is good, love the kid too. She'll go somewhere. Hopefully no coke will get involved.

Joking aside, I appreciate that it doesn't fall for the usual chaotic violence you'd see so often. There's that. But there's humans too, doing human stuff.

I agree that the theater kid types are annoying sometimes. But that isn't unrealistic haha.

So glad i watched it anyway.. it's SO good.

The cinematography is really beautiful. Carried by it.

The story is pretty good too, although very European. No classic love arc, no proud hero. Which is why it gets a 5 I'm afraid.

As someone who skates on natural ice it really spoke to me too.

If you'd like a non standard, artsy european drama/thriller in a setting you won't see from a US studio. Go watch it.

frustrating.
5 May 2022
Nothing makes sense.

Starts with a close up of a sight with a casting ridge (toy? Airsoft?). Okay, can happen. Halo was worst. ;)

Then they arrest all individuals in public with as much people around them as possible? WHY? That's literally the opposite of what the police wants.

There video is supposedly spread trough memes. Yet i don't think the editors have seen any memes in their lives. It hurts. It really does..

the "sociology" teacher has no psychology knowledge of questioning methods employed by the police, thankfully the police doesn't either.

Honestly. I just wanted to much every character for every second they play. The acting is fine. But the writing.. NO.

Also, the plane and helicopter hurt my eyes.. it's a bg asset. Just a lil more blur and color adjustments might've hidden the bad FX? I dunno man.

EVERY shot has small issues like this. Just.. no.. why. It hurts.

It's the first badly rated apple TV show i've seen that is actually bad.

Which is a shame because i love the premise. I mean, it's painfully obvious but it's fun.

Most stuff get low ratings because it's genre bending or too creative for the masses. But this one is actually frustrating to watch.

messy.
30 April 2022
A mix between downtown abbey, fifthy shades of grey and a 19 year old sociology student's first manifesto.

Starts off with the nazi's symbol for gay people in the concentration camps on a hanged man, alongside a baby symbol on a doctor, real subtle. Also a Lot of misinterpreted Christian ideological points.

I grew up religiously, absolutely don't believe anymore so pretty much between two worlds. But this still hurts my soul. It's supposed to be.. what? A social criticism? A fetish?

I've watched so many movies with social criticism, both left wing, right wing. That i absolutely love. Children of men's Christian message, black sails's gay romance, love it. Please go watch princess mononoke for your feminist fix, loved that movie. But this ain't it.

Not if you know what it's supposed to be criticizing.

pretty good.
2 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Always wanted a star wars story that wasn't made by disney.inc. This is bloody, deals with moral dilemma's and gritty sci fi themes. But still has that good world building star wars is famous for.

The main criticism i've seen is from players of the game. Which is great because i think halo games are kinda lame. And halo players have no standards whatsoever. So if they hate it it's probably pretty good.

turns out it's not a joke movie.
8 January 2022
It's advertised as a thriller with a ridiculous plot.

Turns out it's a heartfelt drama with a incredibly wholesome story and very little violence. It's a satire of the action thriller genre, but in a beautiful artistic way, absolutely blown away by the acting and cinematography too.

If you're someone who watches different genre's, and appreciated and creative movies. It's a gem.

Tip, if you've finished the movie, keep watching the credits..

I wish there was a premium way to own movies, like LP's for music, i want a wooden boxed "pig - 2021" in my bookcase to watch with my wife once a year. I don't have a wife or a house for that matter, but you get the point.

Okay nobody takes me seriously after this one but.. just go watch it. With a good wine, preferably.

(i had just one glass, i swear)

Season 1 was a solid 7. Jumped a bit. Decent writing and acting. Messy but fun to watch.

Season 2.. so surprising.. so much better. No jumps, lot better writing and acting. Really nice.

As a artist i really enjoy the decor, the make up and the CGI is very nice as well compared to GOT and the wheel of time.

I'm so much in love with this series. All the Characters spoke to me.

I think it suffers from being too creative for the average watcher.

It's a story about family, loss, sci fi, communication technology, war, subverting tropes, bullying, culture shock.

It's often a family drama inside a sci fi/thriller story.

If you just want a easy pewpew action movie it's not for you.

If you start in the beginning and do not continue it's also very confusing. Comes together in the end. Have some patience!

8 November 2021
I don't know how this title got a 8 on IMDB but.. i kept waiting for a twist. But it's just so.. basic.

I mean, the acting is great. But the story is so predictable using SO many movie tropes. And i am def not a feminist but if every women is just exploitable and the men do the things. Of course the hero is almost asexual apart from the trophy character.

I can't believe i kept watching til episode 4. But it's just not there. It's just tropes.

Probably great if you've never seen something like this.
