How I Met Your Father (2022)
Getting better.
You have to watch this knowing it is made for todays audience just like HIMYM was made for its own time. So yes it is closer to college age peoples ideology. If you can keep that in mind for the first few episodes and put yourself in that mindset it becomes easier. It definitely picks up after a few episodes personally by the end of season one I had grown to like the characters better and watching season 2 I find myself rooting for Hilary's character. She's dorky and hopeful and is doing her best. Is the humor different? Yes a little, but it makes sense. Our main character is not Ted. The characters aren't newer versions of our original gang. They are their own separate characters and also it's through a female lense.
Mayfair Witches (2023)
Patience!
As a fan of Anne Rices work, and especially in the Mayfair Witch trilogy I have been super excited to finally see this on screen. Is it identical to the book? No. There are some very obvious changes, (Both Michael Curry, and Aaron Lightner have been erased from this timeline). Am I disappointed in some of those changes? Yea, but I have hope for the series anyway. I like the pacing and I like the vibe. I think that Both Carlotta and Cortland are being portrayed pretty spot on. The actress that plays Rowan is doing a great job. Is she how I pictured her? No. But she manages to capture the spirit of Rowan's character and I'm able to accept her in the role, and enjoy it.
I think people just need to chill a bit. If you are an avid reader like myself, you probably are already familiar with screen adaptations straying from the source material. It always happens, and this is no exception. But I think so far with two episodes it's definitely setting up the groundwork for the overall world. It seems that we are getting glimpses of the history and timelines woven together to give us the broad picture. The best advice I can give is to be patient, and watch it with the understanding that it will never be the exact same. If you can accept that, you will enjoy the show.
The Winchesters (2022)
Rough Start
I am only on episode 2, but I can definitely agree with other reviewers that it's not as attention grabbing as Supernatural was at its beginning. Also, it is way campier than the original show, I also agree with the Scooby Doo feel. That said, I'm hoping it'll pick up in the next few episodes.
I think part of the problem is the very obvious deviation from what we know of the Winchester family lore. However I do trust that Jensen knows what he is doing and I'm hoping that we will learn why the changes to Mary and Johns story were made. Also people are assuming that Dean is telling the story to us the audience, but as of episode 2 we technically don't know who Dean is actually writing/telling the story to.
I do wish they had brought back Matt Cohen, and Amy Gumenick to reprise their roles, I really miss their interpretations of these roles. However, I once read a theory on Pinterest that the way the characters look when we get glimpses of flashbacks from Sam and Dean is their perspective. This again makes me think that we are not Deans intended audience. Perhaps we are catching the perspective of the reader/listener of the story. We also asume that this is our Dean and that he's on earth, but maybe he is in heaven, or maybe this is a parallel universe so again maybe the changes to the story are valid. I suppose only time will tell. Here's hoping that we get some of these issues addressed as the story progresses.
