Missing Mom (2016)
Wonderful documentary about a very human situation
I loved this documentary as it illustrates the complexity of the human condition and the choices we make. For those who wanted it tied up in a neat package with all the participants coming clean and owning their truths, that just isn't how it works. We all see the truth differently and, frankly, had she been able to be honest with herself in all things, the whole situation would not have happened in the first place. I applaud that her children are okay with the ambiguity of her choices and her inability to take responsibility for the lose of her children in the first place. It takes a lot to put that aside and just choose to love a parent who left you, and it is a very spiritually evolved place to stand in the world. I am in awe of their capacity to love and forgive.
Restored by the Fords (2016)
This show should be called "Ruined by the Fords"
There is no restoration involved in this show at all. They rip everything out, paint magnificent woodwork all white, and put it what looks like lawn furniture. Oh, and let's not forget the red lip vaginaish chair. This show is a travesty of design.
Beach Bites with Katie Lee (2015)
Great idea...not great on follow through
I was so excited to see this show as I am a beach freak.
Sadly, it jumps around so much the viewer never gets the feel for the local area and cannot attach to the region. It would be much more effective if they concentrated on one region per show and offered the specifics of the regional cuisine; that would be a much stronger show. A show that illustrates the local cuisine on the barrier islands of Georgia would make for an in-depth approach to the cooking styles and cuisine that the viewer could find in that area of the country.
The filming is beautiful, as it should be for a show about beach eats, but there isn't really any attention to the area or the people. So far, I just saw Georgia, St. Barts, and now we're off to Mexico. There is no focus. I'm confused and unimpressed.
Mud (2012)
Super Boring
I heard this movie was excellent, so I bought it from the $3.99 movie bin at Best Buy. I just finished watching it, and it is boring and slow.
The story revolves around two poor boys who have no substantial guidance at home. This is a total reflection of what the consequences are of having children with no respect for how to raise them well. These boys are left to their own devices and develop a romantic notion of the fugitive Mud and the woman he "loves." They get caught up in the ugliest of social economic realities in their efforts to unite Mud and his dream woman. This is no fairytale, however.
There is nothing redeeming about these characters or their lives even with acts of perceived selflessness. It is just sad and depressing. The acting is good, but I would never recommend it based on the plot and pacing. Oh, and playing "Help me Rhonda" at the end TOTALLY does not fit the mood or style of the movie. Just not a good film. Putting the cheap DVD in the donation pile to take to the Salvation Army tomorrow.
So long Mud...It was not nice to have known you...
