Shuddh Desi Romance (2013)
Sad Commentary on Youth. Would like to think/believe that the young are better than how they are shown in the movie!
The movie is really strange. Yes, it can be entertaining due to natural acting. But is that it? It makes mockery of marriage as if live in relationships are great. Two of the three main characters were confused and untrustworthy, They were promoting drinking and smoking and doubt---what love????? no idea of going through pain, bearing some pain....nothing.....the main characters were so selfish they played with another woman's life. Chopra's character is very selfish. Rajput Singh's character is selfish and stupid in the beginning but does fall in love. But not enough to go through any pain....such sad characters---nothing to look up to. no one would want children, siblings, friends, or spouse like these. Sad depiction of youth. No achievement in always taking care of yourself. it is when we care for others that we are capable of showing we can love.
And people in India have real families, they have to cut down on guests --an average wedding can have over 500 guests, we do not need to buy guests. Most of the guests are known to the family for a very long time. Stupid film. We should be allowed to give a zero grade. Something less than a 1, or even negative. -10 for the movie.

A Welcome change
The movie is a welcome change from the XXXX substandard story and direction that one gets to see from Bollywood. Other than being for, and about children, the movie has an engaging plot that engages audiences across age groups. Devoid of any flashy Bollywood dancing that is bound to bring any movie down, the movie has some hummable numbers. As in most of Gupte's films, he has a cameo. Interestingly, one important aspect of the movie is that it does not shy away from using subtitles at places, brings in diversity of various accents, and for a change shows some scenes from a Hindu festival, Ganesh Chaturthi!! Take your kids there. We said, 'one of the rare movies where were not holding our hearts in our mouth, with the fear of what might our children might be exposed to in the movie'. The movie is truly clean, unlike many Disney funded movies where romance is often central to the plot. Here we get to enter the psyche of a young child. A real delight!! Thank you Shriman Amol Gupte!!
Jatt & Juliet (2012)
back to true humour--decency and simplicity
Its hard to understand Punjabi for those who have been away from it for a while. But this movie makes you want to learn again, because how beautifully it uses the language. The main star of the movie is the script.
And next of course is the director---and even though at number three, the chemistry of main stars, their excellent comic timing, and natural dialogue delivery adds to the charm of the film.
This film will be remembered for ages to come, simply for its witty dialogue that are true to the language--Punjabi and take the viewers on a ride filled with laughter
Parched (2015)
agenda driven movie with little connection to reality
Typical agenda of Stereotyping on India by Cherry picking isolated incidents: borrowing the summary by previous user since it fits so well.
There are issues in all societies, but these societies have beauty that west driven directors and writers--often with Indian names--cannot see....
these movies are made for international audiences so that they can feel good about themselves -- while issues exist in all societies and a 'man's world' exists all over the world--such directors and writers seem to miss the beauty of life that has all good and bad and ugly--like regular life---freedom does not come by breaking down all things that allow us to discipline ourselves. But ---in learning to organically evolve together with all those involved in a system.
