Che sau (2012)
"I'm drifting my way, I'm drifting my way to something better"
the only reason i watched this movie it is because it was produced by johnny to. this is where you see the difference between produced and directed. the movie's photography was not bad but lack of constancy. the story is a non story which is kind of okay if you compare to most car movies, in exception of Drive. even if the movie is a bit better than the average car movie, that one was one car movie too many. the rookie and veteran relationship is kind of being a bit overexploited already, plus the romantic relationship if we can call it one. didn't feel it at all. not sure if it's because of the bad acting or back story development or bad character development. on the plus side, Anthony Wong was okay, but couldn't save the titanic. some other actors were better in other movies. spoiler alert: they could have just blocked all the exits of the building instead of dancing around, like what police usually do. the girl doctor who plays pool like a hustler, COME ON!
Joueuse (2009)
predictable and some of the elements were off.
the premise is promising, the actors were great, the subject is deep. what could go wrong? well the script was at times either too much or predictable which turned me off. the characters were typical. when she had that argument with the Doctor, the scene is so random that it feels like they had to jeopardize the friendship right before the final act.
the beginning was deceitful. the way she learns how to play chest is unrealistic.
the outcome was deceitful. at the beginning, all the self-empowerment and self-fulfillement was all right, it's all inspiring until the main character decide to cheat her husband without guilt and consequences. just like that.
Fracture (2007)
i am Anthony Hopkins and i am so smart.... that's it
if you watched the teaser, there's no point watching the whole movie because the plot is as simple as that. that shows how poor is the script, when you can resume all the interesting stuff in a teaser. yeah of course, Anthony Hopkins is fantastic. Ryan gosling is not bad either, except he sounds like he has his nose blocked for the entire movie, which is kind of annoying. the girl is just an accessory, a sub plot that doesn't lead anywhere. the movie is so badly edited that it missed a few step with the relationship development, well that or the character of his new boss is a needy hoe. i saw this on DVD and it doesn't have any sex scene which is a disappointment because you expect at least a sex scene when you watch a soulless money making movie like that.
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
jay Leno meet jackass meet crash
so f-ing funny. the added value is only the daring & pushing the limit of politically correctness... over and over. that's enough. jay Leno, referring to the interviews that jay Leno do with the people on the streets and get surprised by their answers. in this movie we are surprised by the answers, funny yet sad, and the reactions which are simply funny. jackass, for all the stunts, daring and funny.
and crash, the Oscar movie of 2005, because it depicts the gap of social evolution between not only the us and the rest of the world, but also between the states. we already know that, but this is a funny way to remind us that the world is crazy.
nobody cares about that, but i have to point it out anyway. the story line is easy, the ending is lazy, and some scenes aren't as genuine as we would like it to be.
