Steven Universe: Mr. Greg (2016)
Season 3's Rose's Scabbard
Steven Universe is the best cartoon Cartoon Network has ever produced because it doesn't care much about making you laugh or telling stupid stories to teach a moral lesson, it's all about poetry and art. I can't think of any season 3 episode that was so focused on that since Gem Drill, and we all know the show is at its best when it focuses on the relationship that Pearl and Rose had, it's such a sad and beautiful story. Mr Greg is a musical that continues the saga of Pearl and Greg's complicated friendship and I dare to say it's the best Pearl has ever been since Rose's Scabbard. The songs deal with such mature themes like envy, hope and missing someone that it automatically became my favorite episode since The Answer, and that's saying a lot.
Steven Universe: Same Old World (2016)
Beautiful episode gives more character development to Lapis
Lapis Lazuli is one of my favorite characters in the show, but I feel like she is seriously underused. Well, now we have our first "Lapis episode" since Ocean Gem, and it is gorgeous. The relationship between Steven and Lapis is so natural and subtle that it can take a whole episode where nothing actually happens and turn it into a great one. Peridot is responsible for all the laughs, probably; unfortunately, she is not on the episode a lot, which leave us to a practically dull script when it comes to humour, but if you want a beautifully written and animated episode with some background on Lapis's history, you will enjoy this one a lot.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: A Hearth's Warming Tail (2016)
Really good Christmas story to add to the list of amazing filler episodes
This episode was the best Hearth's Warming episode for me so far, it captures the spirit and magic of Christmas perfectly and it chooses to retell A Christmas Carol by the eyes of Starlight, which definitely made things interesting. It is a musical episode, but the songs fit in the story and don't hurt the pacing, plus they're awesome, principally the This Day Aria lookalike that Starlight sang while making the spell and Luna's one. There is an obvious lead here; but except for Fluttershy and Rarity, all of the characters have their moment to shine and, while not revolutionary, this is a really well made "feel good" episode.
