Le feu sacré (2015)
A filmmaker's delight!
I was lucky enough to have seen this film at the Long Island Film Festival in New York ! It was a very touching and personal documentary, with a touch of humor. It's amazing how this director filmed everything with his own camera, and through it, one can see his real and true passion for making films. And now I want to see all the fiction films that this particular director made in the past!
Les garçons et Guillaume, à table! (2013)
Boys...Guillaume.. Dinner's ready !!
Saw this film in Paris recently. Heard it was a huge success. I was wondering what all the hoopla was about, so saw it. Right from the start, I was glued to the screen. The acting, the direction, the plot, the dialogue, the music,-- everything was all extremely well done. The film is touching, funny, and poignant. Guillaume Gallienne is a huge talent ! He is absolutely adorable. Not only did he act in the lead part (and played the mother too!) but he also wrote the screenplay and directed! The fact that it is based upon a true story makes it all the more emotive and heart-rending. It is a delicately created work of art that is not pretentious at all. Would have loved to have seen the theatre piece as well ! BRAVO Señor Gallienne! Usted es un genio !
Antichrist (2009)
Trying to block it out of memory forever...
Saw the film because I was on a Willem Dafoe kick at the time and wanted to try to see as many films he was in as I could. Heard Charlotte Gainsbourg was in it too (and they played a couple in the film) and thought it would be interesting to see them together. What can I say? To sum it up in one sentence: I regret to have seen this film. There are certain scenes that left a terrible memory in my head. Scenes which were just so disgusting and unnecessarily disturbing that have resulted in me not being able to look at Charlotte Gainsbourg in the same way ever again. I have begun to try and block the film out of my memory, which I will hopefully succeed in doing, once I put this review to rest. I believe that the story could have been more effective if told and shown in a more subtle way, but to what end is showing such blatantly disturbing scenes?? To each his or her own tastes, but the film, in my own opinion, was a very pretentious one that was not very generous to the audience.
