I really wanted to like this more but at the end of the day it's simply not my cup of tea.
18 September 2023
Some context as to the kind of media consumer I am before I continue: I consider myself a sort of Anton Ego when it comes to media and I take a very, "if I don't love it, I don't swallow" kind of approach to the things I consume, which is something I'm not really proud of and I wish I could let myself enjoy more things and not complain about them. So the fact that I finished this series makes me very proud of myself and it speaks volumes to the quality of this show.

I was convinced to watch this by a friend who has been a long-time fan of the Fate series, and while we see eye-to-eye on just about everything when it comes to video games, shows, etc., I just could not find myself getting super invested in this.

The best way I could describe this is that it feels like your run-of-the-mill "cookie-cutter" anime. And while there are many many things about this show that put it well above the average anime, at its very core, it still feels like something that came out of an anime factory.

So sorry Fate fans but even though I ended up liking this more than I disliked it in the end, I think I'll be okay with keeping my viewership of this series limited to this for now.

My best find of 2023.
18 September 2023
I discovered this mini-series on a whim after I came across a clip from it on TikTok. Although the clip was just 8 seconds or so, I was instantly pulled in by the art style and the animation. I don't know why studios in the US today continue to shy away from animation like this because I must say, American animators were cooking in the 90's/early 2000's.

I feel like this is one of those shows where people will either "get it" or "not really get it." But no matter which side I think you'd fall on. This show is an absolute must-watch for fans of animation or fans of art in general.

At the time I viewed this, I was really going through some things, and I continue to go through things, but this show made "going through it" seem okay, and in fact almost necessary.

If I had to describe this show in one word, it would be "real". This show keeps it real. It's a show about broken people going through broken people things, simple as that. While there have been many pieces of media that explore the concept of "brokenness" none have spoken to me like this one has.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019 Video Game)

I don't blame you for quitting this game, but I also think you're making a big mistake.

Okay, I'm not going to sugar coat it, this game is astronomically hard. In fact, it should be illegal to make a game this hard and not include an "easy mode." However, this is also one of the reasons why this game so dang satisfying to beat. So many people think that giving players more freedom and power makes a great game, and in many cases, this is true, but not with this game. When I played through this game my first time, I couldn't believe how difficult it was. I'd consider myself a pretty cool-headed fellow, but there were countless times where this game made my blood boil. However, once I finally beat the game and started it over, I couldn't believe that I was playing the same game. I was beating enemies significantly faster, and I was dying significantly less. It was as if an "easy mode" had been turned on, but it wasn't because of the game, it was all because of me; because of MY skill, MY finesse. Now THAT'S power to the player; THAT'S freedom of play.

P.S. Pro-tip, if you're playing this game like dark souls and bloodborne, you're doing it wrong.

Who..... who approved this episode?

If I were to teach a course on how to not make a filler episode in a tv series, this is the one I'd show first.

It had its moments but ultimately....it's painfully slow.

When I think of Star Wars, the first thing that comes to mind are montages of the galaxies' deadliest assassin building ships, playing army with swamp people, and playing "steel the egg from the rhin -- oh wait -- no I dont actually.

If this movie bores you... just keep watching.
22 April 2020
I could see how this film could put a lot of people to sleep. Whenever I watch a film I want to be completely drawn in, and preferably within the first ten minutes. To my dismay, this wasn't the case with this film. After the first 20 minutes were over I remember thinking to myself, "Do I really care to see were this goes?" However, inch by inch, the film slowly started to pull me in, and when the credits started rolling I just had to take a minute to sit back and take it all in.

The best way I can describe this film is that it's like a scroll, a scroll that will not begin to make sense of until you've unraveled it all and get the chance to sit back and look at it all at once. Did this film bore me at parts? Yes. Did I wish I was watching something else at parts? Yes. But did it also leave me in awe? YES! Don't throw away this scroll until you've unraveled it entirely.

One Punch Man: Return of the Hero (2019)
Season 2, Episode 1
8/10
The downgraded animation is frustrating, but it's definitely still One Punch Man.
13 April 2019
I am not a fan of Anime television, but I love One Punch Man. The creators of the original 1st season took such a simple concept and absolutely knocked it out of the park, and as far as the writing goes, the creators of S2E1 continue to do that for me. Unfortunately, the animation in this episode has been noticeably downgraded from the previous season, something I find incredibly disappointing. However, it definitely isn't as "god awful" as some people are making it out to be, it just makes me really appreciate how good the animation in the first season was. Overall I was very pleased with the start of the new season and I can't to see how everything plays out as the season continues.

Missing Link (2019)
4/10
Painfully mediocre.
13 April 2019
Walking into this movie, I was hoping that it would join "Kubo and the Two Strings" and "Coraline" as being another fantastic Laika movie. Unfortunately I found that "Missing Link" didn't do a whole lot for me. While the animation was incredible and the humor was on point, this film just could help but feel like a film I've scene a million times already. It follows just about every cliche' in the book, and it makes absolutely no effort to challenge itself, or the viewer in any way. There are redeeming qualities for sure, but if you were to see it, I'd recommend you save some money and wait till becomes available to rent.

Incredibly messy (in a strangely super-fun way)
13 February 2019
With the first Lego Movie being one of a my favorite animated movies of all time, lets just say that this film had a lot to live up to. The Lego Movie 2 is definitely not on the same level as the first one; however, with that being said there is still a ton of fun to be had here, and this is definitely a movie that all movie lovers should watch at least once in their lifetime.

As far as the plot for this film goes, while I found it to be pretty messy, I still though it some how kinda worked... sometimes. What worked for me is how well this film owned its messiness, and how it never hesitated to hold back when it came to creative craziness. However, within all this plot's craziness there are legitimate problems, one of them being that this film can really get bogged down in its numerous sub-plots. So bogged down in fact, that whenever this film tries to be as deep as the first film was, it just seems to fall flat. But with all that being said The Lego Movie 2 is still a great time! And one that won't disappoint fans of the previous Lego Films
