Thirteen Lives (2022)
Very little to say... besides SEE IT!
My heart was firmly lodged in my throat for the last hour and a half of Thirteen Lives. Nobody does true-story heroism like Ron Howard, and the people behind the true story of this film were just that... TRUE HEROES!!!
Though Howard fictionalizes his subjects, and does not pretend to make documentaries, he does accurately depict the feeling and the major points of his subjects in this one! It almost feels like a beautiful re-enactment. In all honesty it feels like you are actually there.
Vigo and Colin absolutely killed it. What excellent acting! They each deserve an Oscar for this. And I hope they get it this year!
Those who have run into my reviews may note that this is one of my shortest. Please understand that I really don't think there's much to say about this simple, beautiful and very human story, besides - see it!
Zhou (2022)
Deranged and wonderful
I absolutely loved this film. I so very excited to see it and I can tell you, It did deliver.
My only fault was the first half an hour I felt could have moved a bit quicker, but besides that I loved it.
This film had absolutely deranged and outlandish direction which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was not expecting it and it made for a truly wild and intriguing film.
The cast was on fire and they all played very interesting roles.
One last criticism however is that for large sections of the film the picture had a murky quality which made certain sections seem out of focus and I really didn't enjoy this.
Overall though this film is an absolute blast. Fans of horror/thriller will love this I'm sure.
Day of Disappearance (2022)
Excellent found footage film
As a fan of found footage films I have seen them all and I know the difference between a good one and bad one. And this is a good one. First off the lone problem. It's slightly too long at an hour fifty. I might have shaved 10 minutes off. But some brands of horror is often long running and that's that.
Otherwise we get a good story, superb acting (if it is acting?), an EXCELLENT PREMISE, and some of the most incredibly eerie moments and creepy scares I have ever seen in found footage history. In general this is just a damn good found footage movie in a damn good setting. Also the emotionally charged story really keeps you rooting for the protagonist the whole way as it centers around an extremely likable troubled kid and his past regarding his father and mother.
Just a damn good film with plenty of scares, moments, and more. Give it a watch.
American Horror Stories (2021)
Caught me by surprise! This will be worth your time!!
So if you like horror movies, you might have watched stuff at the end of which you were either 1. Glad it was over 2. Or, glad you watched it because it was fun 3. Or, both but now didn't want to dream about the movie
This film did something that I haven't come across before. Towards the end of the movie, it'll leave you feeling like you are and will continue to be a part of the movie. Get it? I was like "That was a good movie, I'm glad I watched it, but WHY did I watch it?" It's tough to explain this feeling without spoiling it so I'll leave it there.
The ride to get there is engaging thanks to the efforts of a strong cast, relatable elements that ground the story, and a dreadful atmosphere. Many will have goosebumps throughout the film.
