Sad waste of their and my time..
2 October 2019
As aptly put by wilsp-25512, this could have been so much with the talent. Instead the whole film rides aimlessly in the dark and ends up by stopping. No way would I give it a recommendation except of course, don't bother!

Truly a work of art!
11 December 2018
What starts out with its feet somewhat on the ground, this story takes off almost immediately for parts unknown but desperately desired. While there is no part phoned in, the transition of Eva Melander's Tina will keep you in awe throughout this too short tale. Yes it does give us folklore and such but the work doesn't even slow down there. This is a morality tale of the highest caliber. I only hope it will make a big impression on all who are privileged to be able to view it. Good luck!

You're kiddin' right?!?!

Freddy lived and died in an X-rated life....giving him a G-rated film is an insult not just to him but to all of us who lived it with him and especially those who died along with him. Give the people and times their due and stop trying to gloss it over. We lived and died our drugs, sex and rock & roll!!!

In another time....
30 May 2018
Upon leaving the theater after see If....for the first time I too was stunned, shocked..blown away. Never before had such an ending played across the big screen in front of me without the mandatory "fix"....society or good will out. Now it's old hat. Art house fans will love its drawn out scenes and its well place inanities. Youngsters will abhor all of the above. The beat goes on.

Not worth locating a black hole to drop it into.
29 November 2014
It was sad to see a film take such a wonderful subject as the life and ambitions of Mr. Hawkins and attempt, dismally, to create it for nothing more than a contender in the awards 'game'. This is the kind of tripe which is accepted all too readily as biopic material and offers little or nothing of the person or their skills other than to show off as a proffered mating ritual. Mr. Redmaynes painstaking efforts are the only reason I gave it any rating at all. With all the facts and wonder we have have at our disposal about the man, why is it that there is little or nothing involving his deep, driving demand for 'the answer' and all that is entailed in his studies. Rather we are given still another sexist portrayal of two people battling impossible odds to finally give in to their bases needs, with others. Not only old fare but out of place and cheapening to the real story line. I could only try to dissuade others from subjecting themselves to this demeaning film.

The 'real' Exorcist 2
19 June 2014
This was actually written as the follow-up to the Exorcist. The film Exorcist 2 according to Blatty himself in one interview didn't work because the director was a Protestant, and in another interview that it was because he wasn't a believer. There is no understanding why the series was not produced as written. Chronologically it would have been: Exorcist (1973), The Ninth Configuration (1980),Exorcist 3 (1990), Exorcist: The Beginning (2004). The movies were a work of faith and should be examined as such. To hire another writer to create a sensationalist bit of horror totally unconnected with the original just for the idea of making a buck off the popularity of the first, is so typical and yet in this case at least, sad. One should have the option of watching these expressions as they were meant to be seen by the author rather then a cheap thrill ride which demeans not only a very compassionate writer, but the audience as well. This should serve as a lesson to serious film geeks, be sure of what you are watching 'cause you are going to be the only person you can trust to have your viewing interests at heart.

With such a unique take giving so much why did the director forget to fact check??
13 June 2012
The effort of this film was GREAT!!! That said the facts expressed were all WRONG!! Wanting to give a story from all four sides..up, down, us, them was an idea worth pursuing why then weren't the facts? Bases in the jungle without clear visuals, jeeps...people of all sizes fitting in tunnels noted for being the small size of the tunnelers NOPE!!! Big screw up there in an otherwise fantastic attempt to give a no sided take on the horror of war...sorry Charlie not this one!!! I've never seen anything from this director before and a lot of the actors were new to me, however most held the story to the limit and made me feel their fear and pain. The shots of bodily damage and reaction to being shot was from my experience pretty real. The isolation and helplessness gave a bleak and painful feeling as well. All in all I really wish the director had taken time to find out the simple facts and gives us a better effort.

Winning formulas all around!!
10 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As was pointed out previously by Rahb17, this has a lot of the early Twilight Zone television episode, Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?(May 21,1961). A mixture of 'visitors' watching, plotting and waiting while all around (including other aliens)are clueless. Also, however, I would like to point out that this is skillfully combined with the irreverence applied to work in Office Space(1999) and offering as well several romances taking place in cubicles and available copy/storage rooms much to the frustration of Pete the office manager. While James Urbaniak takes on a benevolent dictator demeanor as Pete, he's no Gary Cole and the same can be said of Jonathan M.Woodward's lead not being as acidic as Ron Livingston, however, we don't really need a carbon copy of Office Space to make this a fun movie. The plot breaks away on its own well enough to allow fleshing out of the Jim Belushi style delivery Mr. Woodward offers us (SPOILER) tag-teamed by a charismatic Samm Levine as his concerned 'alien' best friend, sans the bicycle. Angela Bettis on the other hand has an original believable grace which can easily have you rooting for her by the end as she grows into emotions, a thing not easily received by her species, and falls in love with Brian. All of this ends up neatly tied together with Dave Allens wonderful rendition of the Philo character from UHF (1989) getting things back together chronologically. This little gem is a must see for fans of all the above mentioned 'contributors' and everyone who just likes fun, quirky films.

A film of the highest caliber...
9 October 2011
This film can leave one simultaneously with a feeling of exhilaration and exhausted to the point of tears! Seldom have I gone to a movie with expectations as high as this one to satisfied without even being asked, and I watch up to ten a week! The five stories, based on true events in the life of Mr. LeLouch, are interwoven into a story of epic proportion with scenes shot in the very spots where they happened. What could have been old stories of the 'war years' retold were given to us instead with a gut-wrenching, joyously vibrant story of love and betrayal usually reserved for those epics of the bygone era of Hollywood. This combined with acting pulled from the souls of basic unknowns ,some of whom begged for the parts, poured off of the screen to wash over the audience with so much more then we have come to expect these days...a true film going experience. See this with an audience on the big screen if you can, if not gather some of your closest friends around you and plenty of wine and tissues. I will only say that I've waited a long time to feel this way about a movie, thanks Mr. L.

His new music may not be sweet, but it hits the target!!
8 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Stephen Rea keeps consistent in both his accent and his commitment to rid the country of the scum whats killed his mate as well as the pretty young innocent he'd just met during a gig turned disaster. His clumsy manner at being an executioner runs consistent to his attempts at romance. When he's routinely questioned about the rising body count, he insists "I'm just a musician". It's ironic that as his new music of vengeance performed with the monotone clacking of the machine gun improves, his sax is getting deeper and more expressive as is his sex. The supporting cast is kept at a distance after the initial horror. This demands of them to do their stuff right from the chest which is nicely handled. So, here he is dying for a relationship while at the same time realizing that he's going the opposite way and that he must do it alone, however; it has been pointed "he's charmed".

For all its' pain and death this is still a love story and a well done one at that. See it with your sweetie.

Rapture (1965)

Quite captivating due to on the mark acting and riveting camera work.
25 July 2007
Anyone can make a coming of age love story so why bother? When a subject is handled with such superior abilities and skill I don't really care what the subject matter is. From the first to the last each scene is given the care and deliberation deserving of such a well picked cast and crew. This film has NOT been given its due and I don't know quite what to say about that. Like the Chalk Garden perhaps, the subject is almost taboo and just fierce enough to shock the main stream movie goer. Whatever the case I hope those of you curious enough to read these notes will with the same zeal find and devour this bittersweet morsel.

Give the gang a break!
14 March 2006
I will agree that this movie is a lot of fun to watch, uncut that is, and I will go further and say that it was probably a hoot to be a part of the making of it as well. Lets face it some of these guys are not around anymore and this might have been one of their last laughs together. I for one found it exciting to have one last look at Henry Silva, Richard Pryor and Christopher Jones. Those last two by the way were in one of their first movies together as well, Wild In The Streets. Michael J. Pollard will always be seen in something. Kyle MacLachlan was probably in it just for the kicks. His performance seemed a bit over the top even for him. All in all I would have loved to have been an extra on this one but at least I got to see it.

Between Time and Timbuktu (1972 TV Movie)

A fine adaptation of several works of Kurt Vonnegut.
15 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The pleasure derived from watching this film was very close to the same joy I got from Mr. Vonnegut's books. This original piece of work done by David O'Dell and then submitted to Mr. V to "fart around with" is perhaps one of the best collaborations between fan and author it's been my privilege to watch. An outstanding performance by a caring cast add volumes to this not so tongue-in-cheek masterpiece. Although Mr. Vonnegut doesn't claim credit for this work per Se, it could have only been possible through his genius. He was a man of the times, it's too bad there are so few films worthy to tell his love of his fellow man, this is one.
