Little Joe (2019)
Awesome!
Great realisation of great idea,
Intimidating, slowburning, scarry in a very intricate way. Asking some good questions.
Super unusual and very good usage of Japanese traditional music in European (British) context.
Also if you don't like festival slow-paced movies, You can skip it.
Sonny Boy (2021)
deep and meaningfull
It's simply awesome,
Has vibes of The Lord of Flies, but not that violent,
Authors get deep into characters and human psycology i general, keeping it entertaining and full of little pleasant surprises.
Bravo.
Lovecraft Country (2020)
What the hell
Ok, it started as promising thriller, if not horror, with kinda universal scientific/fantasy setting you can do whatever you want in.
Then it went trashy with more TrueBlood vibes, and lost all that gloss of high-quality stuff but still was intertaining and good-looking enough to watch ferther.
Discrimination theme is kinda trendy right now and the story is about black people.
And most of horror elements are actually about white people discriminating black rather then about some supernatural stuff.
But closer to the end main characters go wild too much,
Never thought that with this type of setting I find myself empathizing to white aristocratic villain girl. But she was sincere and adequate, when main characters are chaotic, violent and treacherous. It feels like a major flaw of the story. And ruins overal impression of the title drastically
Lost Girls and Love Hotels (2020)
Honest and detailed
Great story about people who don't know what to do with their lives and are looking for some revelations in every situation they fell in. With the most focus on Dadddario character.
Not too dirty but with great attention to sensetive and emotional details.
Highly recommend
A Quiet Place (2018)
disappointment
Okay, it starts with intriuge and interst, but no more then that.
Image looks good, actors play good.
But plot and idea development is something that should have been utilized.
Let's go from the beginning.
Creatures like shown in this movie could have never occupoed earth.
They are stupid and highly vulnerable to loud noises. It's easy to lure them wherever you want and make them harmless with simple radio. So the setting is impossible.
Okay, let's forget about that, and they did it. Killed most of the people on earth or in the area.
Next thing. This family woudl have never lived this long. They act stupid. All the time.
We could have justify their behaviour by telling that they had no resources or qualification. But they managed to create huge security system with lights and complicated radio rig. So they had no safe room? Is it that hard to make soundproof cellar? Harder then all the things they have?
They have radio. Why do they need to have fireworks as a lure for creatures?
Just to risk their lives? Why not to use simple sound system as a lure? Their father is intelligent enough to make a deaf-aid.
And that's just big things.
And okay sometimes director makes a play that has value not in terms of interest and plot but with visuals and complicated references or transfering interesting idea of the creator.
And no. It uses all the cheap cliche from any horror film ever. So stupid that it's not even scary. Not telling anything about the characters or any particular story. And main idea is that kids will make you killed.
Highly recommend to not to watch it.
