Resident Advisors (2015)
Funny Enough and Worth Watching
I was excited to see the appearance of this show on Hulu. I immediately thought of shows like Undeclared and the National Lampoon's college movies. I watched all of it within a couple of days and it got a bit better with time. At first I didn't think it was all that funny and there were only a few laugh out loud moments. But I like the main cast, including the newcomers enough to hope for a second season. The writing wasn't very original but it still kept my attention. 7 episodes seemed like enough and if you watch all of them the back story from previous episodes pays off in the final episode. To Micah the one star reviewer: It sounds like you were expecting a documentary from a fictional comedy show. I got quite a laugh and felt a bit bad at the same time. Seeing that you watch a comedy series about resident advisors and expect it to be strictly by the book made me wonder what else you may have given poor reviews based on lack of authenticity. Of course they weren't writing this with a true story in mind. It wouldn't have been funny in the slightest. At first I thought you were joking until I continued reading. Do all fictional comedies enrage you? Especially the ones about college? I sure hope not because that seems really sad.
Awake (2012)
Best Drama of 2012!
I'm not much of a procedural cop show fan so I didn't expect to enjoy it much. But, Awake is much more than that. It has steadily built into a wonderfully inventive drama in its on class. Every week I have more anticipation for the next episode. Jason Isaacs has always played great characters in movies and a lot of them villains. Doing so well on TV isn't unexpected from him but he has done the best acting of his career, in my opinion, in Awake. And the supporting cast is excellent. They have some of the best writing to work with on top of that. The last few episodes of the season had me on the edge of my seat feeling his pain and waiting to see how this season would end. I never expected the season to end as well as it did though. I really hope to see a 2nd season. Everything wrapped up so well but I feel Kyle Killen could and will draw me right back in. If you haven't given this gem a chance, please watch at least 2 episodes and you will hopefully feel the same anticipation I did thinking "Wow! What will happen next?! To wrap up, this series deserves multiple Emmy nominations.
World Trade Center (2006)
A terrific movie chronicling a pivotal, horrific day in our history
I usually go into an Oliver Stone movie expecting wild camera shots of an almost trippy nature, conspiracy theories and the usual Stone directing style. He was a completely different director in this movie. He refrained from the conspiracies and dizzying film work and told a very emotional, heroic story of that horrible day. If you didn't know Stone directed this movie upon viewing you would never know. All of the actors are at their best, as in most Stone movies. Even Nic Cage shows more acting chops than usual. Stone may be a gonzo director but he can get the best acting out of almost anyone. I highly recommend this movie to anyone that can watch a movie about this day and not get too upset over personal reasons. Even those people, people that may have lost a loved one, might be riveted by this film. It is very well done all around and shows you the heroics of ordinary men enduring extraordinary circumstances. So don't go into this thinking you won't like it if you dislike Stone's directing style. you won't see it here. Just a well directed, emotionally charged movie that chronicles the story of 2 port authority officers in a very respectful and gut wrenching manor.
