The Accused (1988)
8/10
Should be required in high school curriculum
4 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing portrayal by Jodie Foster-IMO 1 of her best performances on silver screen ,which I am surprised this film is not mentioned more in wake of current Female social activism. I guess it's uncomfortable topics and graphic scenes make alot of people squeamish considering-the popular toxic alpha-male environment and public beliefs that SA were mainly a victims fault. This was the norm during and before 1980s, though women are still objectified and blamed for sexual assault because of their background, clothing or drinking habits. Misogyny is widely upheld in modern times (to my chagrin despite the Metoo movement). However I like how Accused paints a detailed picture of what lead to the SA and how victims get treated afterwards-in by court of public opinion and pursuing legal punishment.

What you see is what you get...so cliche but hey if the shoe fits :D

Finally I caved & purchased this for $2 on youtoob movies; it was good. Not terribly great but an interesting, low radar jewel with decent pace; the pacing helped boost its appeal and keeps ya watching; Would like to see it few more times for free. Reviews are accurate-slightly predictable yet you still want to watch; cannot turn it off so sit back and enjoy the melodrama moment ; )

White Palace (1990)

Offbeat and Juicy-Luv it!
17 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you like off-the-beaten-path yet satisfying movies, THIS IS You! Grab your popcorn, sit back and enjoy a bit of 1980's nostalgia.

This movie taught me a lot in 2 hours; watched it as a teen with my mother in like 1994; made me realize-when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Susan Sarandon delivered the goods- in her "give it to you straight no chaser' witty signature. James Spader gave a good performance looking handsome yet stoic-detached manner of his character a lawyer named Max. Max from a thickly Jewish family and tradition married his childhood sweetheart a beautiful educated 'nice young girl' who died few years back, which is how we meet Max attending his friends bachelor party.

(is it me or James Spader seems closeted African American ancestry or some1 passing in his lineage; am I wrong)

Strippers dancing, beers flowing and somebody forgot 4 white palace burgers that Max adamantly demands a refund and exits party to carry out 'the principle matter." He meets the sassy red head middle aged waitress who is 'up to her eyeballs' in hamburger grease smells and cant sniff the empty boxes to confirm if Max didn't just eat the sandwiches as a con for free food. Max tells her off about waiting in line and she stares at him doing a refund. Max clearly needs sexual healing according to his friends to get on with his life. SassyRed meets Max again at a bar where she's dolled up waiting to catch an STD :D she flirts with Max which he rejects and she buys him a drink because of his pretty face and rich looks. They bond after discovering they both lost someone special, and asks him to drunk driver her home. He hits her mailbox and lays on ground; after begging MrPretty to stay because he can't drive drunk and sick. She seduces Max with a mindblowing roll in the sack!

Max is relieved, goes home and feels alive; he continues visiting his older waitress who knocks his socks off. Next Miss Sassy realized Max aint introducing her to his rich upper class friends and acquaintances. He tells her to clean up her home; they keep having relations until her sister visits and reveals Sassys son committed suicide; a little secret MissSassy hid. So they attend a party where every1 is wondering 'how the heck did they hookup' and she asserts her oral skills to a posh looking yet judgmental interior designer (wife of Max's friend) whose husband I'm sure flirted hard with MissSassyRed while he poured her drink. Miss sassy testifies her social status as working class when she debates the father of the Thanksgiving hosts; she storms out. Moments later she and max confront each other with the truth.

Sassy red suddenly quits her 'culinary arts' job and moves to NYC with her sister a fortune teller. Max realizes he 'just cant'with his non-dustbuster friends, so he chases his true connection and ignores everybody opinions. Max resigns his job and to return to teaching, his passion, and moves to NYC for more hot lovin. He pleads with MissRed and they lay on a table kissing amid NYC lunchtime onlookers.

Loser (2000)

Quality film about younger people's relationships
18 June 2020
Never was a fan of the whole 'American pie' film series; i mean it just reeked of cheesy, silly and pre-occupation with sex: themes they shoved down movie-goer throats and bombarded theatres since the 80s (albeit a few are cult classics for good reason and the rest are...not). Jason Biggs and Mena Suvar shined in this casual yet down to earth quirky film about college life and relationships. A must see underappreciated movie gem; if u like authenticity, quality acting, good storyline not overhyped teen sex /teen stereotype or the done/worn out, teen high school film themes from the past 30 years, here ya go!

Good story despite initial cheesy teen movie vibe
18 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Remember watching tLAV as a kid on 1980s HBO, and I never forgot guys like Gary and Rick;I used this as a life lesson to guide my choice of male company-it worked. Always look at the actions of a person not just words or charm. Whoever wrote/shot this flick Definitely captured the essence of what it looks like falling in love / heartbreak. Sidenote: Lets not forget the chubby fashionista who wolfed down chips while having a makeout session with Gary which she coulda enjoyed :D Fact: Garys unrequitted love for idiot girl. I mean-dude knock'd her up & boot her like spoiled milk ~talk about adding insult to injury-what was she thinking reconciling w/a sex crazed jerk after Gary's exemplary demonstration of love & friendship; at least she coulda reciprocated tiny romanctic-friendship with dude after he helped her out the ordeal~ CONSIDERING: there are grown married people out there that don't get a Drop of help after a Spouse kicks them and some kids to the curb..think about it. A super-Underrated and under-appreciated movie gem from that certain cheesy genre of 80s teen sex/porkys/drugs/high school/fasttimesRidgmontHigh type of movies that SATURATED the 80s-ijs. If you liked this, but want less of the goofy high school teen theme, then check another underrated* under appreciated epic movie= Loser (2000) featuring Jason Biggs, Mena Suvar.

Wow, was it the director or actors?
13 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
WOW! 1 word to summarize this wild, juicy love triangle roller-coaster ride of a movie! When watching this eccentric film please be open to mild degree of = feminism :D Unpredictable is what I like and "The Last Mistress" did not disappoint.

Sadly, its not a cable tv regular, after viewing it nearly decade ago on a recently defunct channel. Fact: Asia Argento's name popped up in a h.weinstein scandal expose I read 2018, which is how I discovered the title after viewing it on a late night random search. I caught it like 20 minutes into the film but it captured me so fast I was glued to the tv until the end.

So Asia is the hot spicy lady who steals pretty boy's heart although he is engaged to a pretty rich girl. Miss HotSpicy takes control of old boy and he is whipped; lol for lack of a better term. They are caught in a web of sweaty nasty long winded romps and other odd antics of lustful young lovers; romeo cannot escape her grasp. The death of his/misshot child, whose corpse they are living with during a difficult mourning period for her first born, brings us to a turning pointin the relationship. He asks her to take care of the kids body because its decomposing and out of respect; missHOtSpicy complies. Next loverboy manages to tear himself away for a few weeks to visit his long suffering soft-cream puff fiance. Clearly she is no match to MisshotSpicy in the bedroom for loverboy so hotSpicy comes to get her long lost babydaddy and waits outside for him to choose. Loverboy cant resist the heat so he leaves Little miss Muffet sittng on her spoiled, boring tuffet crying her way thru curds & weigh. :D

War Bride (2001)

10stars for her wedding day dress
12 April 2019
Can't believe I found a classic movie gem in the imdb 'freedive' section (classic because this movie is nearly 20 years old-hmm how time flies)! Never heard of this film probably because I'm American but it feels like a Lifetime Movie Network (LMN cable channel) tv movie. If you like over hyped, star-power films, then it' probably not your 'cuppa' tea. :D A simple beginning - but captures your attention with a twist of the unpredictable parts of life. She's a single lady enjoying life and dances herself into a love affair turned marriage with a cute soldier. Fast life for them. As you know-the old saying: if life gives us lemons we make lemonade. Movie explores what happened after these usually over-romanticized war marriages. Yet, I'm sure (if you consider the idea of marrying somebody you only knew for a few weeks) your mind concocts a sordid variety of possibilities: bad, good or worse.

Ok Interesting Sci-Fi mixed with thriller
1 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Borderline horror b-movie-the central theme is cloning other sub themes are love-loss, longing, reliving past, and (recent buzzing topic) Narcissistic personality disorder or narcissistic abuse syndrome. Title says everything-harvesting :D OK u can thank me later for saving 1 hour of your day; perhaps watch this on fast forward; although I was quite intrigued by what will happen next, which IMO is the hallmark of a good film-quick flow without losing my interest.

Elephant in the Room...
28 October 2018
Why is everyone ignoring the big elephant in the room? * * * * * but before I go there-I did enjoy this movie! It's a Sci-fi film written and directed by a black guy. Stylistically- feels like spike lee on Acid :D Now onto my point for writing a much needed review, keeping it 100...

I will just say it-because we AaaaLL know why alot of white guys/white people dislike this film = It. Portrays. white men. as. Oppressors. {aka Da white man} OK There! Much better rather than dancing around the Obvious issue here. Recently, american wm have expressed fear of Amurikkah becoming very 'anti white male' ----see the Charlottesville, VA protests 2017.

That's all.

Interesting
25 September 2017
OK when I discovered F&A I thought: don't recall seeing promotions or trailers WTFugg . . . its Halle berry! Next I read the DVD cover's summary/movie description, and decided to dig in. HB acting gets better & better

I'm glad she's doing more depth films like other actresses-not typical, predictable stories and she always adds a little twist to make it interesting :D

IMDb shows movie did not do so good at box office-no shocker since I had no clue it existed and normally hb movies are big deals and get hype. Wonder how much she got paid to do this & could it have been more of a Lifetime movie network piece?

Some silver screen films starring black leads, seem like they are not promoted As Much- unless there's a white co-star. I could be wrong but that's my thought. Despite a couple tiny lags, overall movie held my attention and moved quickly.

F.Y.I. 2 signs of a decent film:

A. u forget you're watching a flick

B. u hardly notice time ticking by boom- 1.75 hours spent watching

P.S. wasn't 'kidnap' was re-released twice this summer- deja vu
