A Year from Now (2021)
What was the point..?!?
Others have covered the plot, still others the pacing, the acting, and the 'everything else'. Yes, I know many might consider this coverage de rigueur for each and every review. But I can not, just can not do so. I am not invested enough in the film to accept this 'reviewers burden'.
So I will ask my overarching question after viewing: how did the lead character overcome her primary obstacle..?!?
Spoilers here, tagged and warning again.
Veronica is obviously an underachieving human being. Wanting to be an author, but not writing. A law school graduate, but not a full-fledged lawyer like her sister. And more. How can she change all this..??
Given the 'magical power' to see the changes in her life over successive yearly 'jumps' during Christmas week ...does she use these yearly 'updates' to advance her career or life..??
No. Things just 'happen' at the scriptwriters' whim. Does she learn anything from each Christmas jump..?? No. Does she do anything new and creative over the course of the years given her..?? No..!!
Until the last jump. Bam, her novel has been published, she is a success..!! And suddenly confident enough to dump her trashy husband, added during her last jump. A suitor she had been avoiding over all the previous jumps. But those crafty scriptwriters throw in this cheating husband near the end ...how clever..!!
My main question, hinted at earlier. In year one of this tale, no novel. At the end of her journey, novel *published in year one*, before the entirety of the film. How..?!? Why..?!? We watch the entire film waiting for the insights and knowing changes which will help evolve a new, successful character. But nothing happens. It is all scriptwriter magic (rather than plot) to make it so..!!
So disappointed at having wasted my time watching this one. For gawd's sake, keep looking and pick something different.

Meet My Valentine (2015)
Silly premise...
A mind-boggling spin on the old 'partner/lover' dying of cancer. This time, the dying partner hatches a plan to find a suitable husband and father for his surviving family.
Who would do this..?!? Not a caring, equal partner husband. Not a disease-addled brain cancer patient. No one would do this. It is crazy.
The whole film is like a bad tour guide in a city you know well. You hope you might learn something new, but every word they utter makes no sense.
Instead of spending quality time withe his wife and child he wastes his remaining days doing trial 'dates' with potential future men.
Just silly. The characters are engaging but the are locked in a silly plot with a silly ending.
Mark, Mary & Some Other People (2021)
Not my kind of movie ...
Attractive main stars and obligatory side buddies and ladies. I really 'cared about' all of them by the end; I was invested..!!
Lots of drug and alcohol use. And of course strong implied sexual content ...so be wary of this if needed.
The trying-to-be-edgy ending is just not my kind of movie. Just resolve the main conflict one way or the other and let us have that final settlement. I felt kind of cheated at the end. The film set it up on the tee, smashed a fair ball down the line ...and then faded to ending music and credits. A hit or an out..?!?
I hate films that leave the viewer hanging. Imagine Casablanca with a similar ending ...blechh..!!
Baa Baa Black Sheep: Forbidden Fruit (1978)
Seems rather silly...
Not a full blown review, just an observation.
Seems rather silly for new nurse Samantha Green to be parading around the base in a pair of short shorts and an open, summery blouse. Really..??
