Suspenseful and complex
30 November 2023
The plot seems somewhat innocent at the start when a young couple moves into a suburban neighborhood cul-de-sac and all and befriends another young family. There is a side plot with a creepy voyeur neighbor that becomes interwoven in the main storyline of the lives and activities of the 2 main couples. The plot continues to become more complex and suspenseful throughout until the crescendo hits in the last episode. In the end, the main plot line is resolved but there are plenty of subplots that are left hanging perfectly for a season 2.

The acting is superb. The two main characters played by Sam Heughan and Elinor Tomlinson are supported perfectly by Jessica De Gouw and Alfred Enoch and all are totally believable in these roles. They show a full and complex range of emotions. The rest of the cast similarly plays their characters in a very convincing way.

The soundtrack is haunting, foreboding and plays like its own character. I was on the edge of my seat and invested throughout. It was totally binge worthy and exceeded my expectations.

Loved "Love at First Sight" at first sight
17 September 2023
Loved this movie! Full disclosure, I love romcoms and those with sentimentality, excellent acting, creative story lines and well done, bonus points. And there are just not enough of them. Perfectly cast, especially the leads, Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy, who were so charming, likable, attractive and who seemed like perfectly normal human beings...so refreshing. The chemistry between them was totally believable. The narrator, Jameela Jamil, did an excellent job as narrator. It was a creative and interesting way to advance the story. Loved the unconventional interwoven stories. Lots of lovely reviews but many of those with mediocre scores, not sure why they gave a quite good review but not a quite good score. Well done Love at First Sight!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Incredible Performances in an Emotion Filled Episode
3 July 2023
The performances by everyone were so well acted, I was drawn into the emotional roller coaster as if I had a personal stake in what was happening and the characters were my family. Sam, Caitriona, Sophie, Roger and John have always been superb but their interaction reached such a deep level that I truly felt the emotional pain they were going through. I do not see actors playing a role, I only see the characters. The writing, production values and direction, together with the incredible acting, made the entire episode so memorable. There have been emotional episodes in the past, but none have touched me like this episode. Also, Alex as Allan Christie, up to this point has not had much content to deliver, but man, did he deliver an outstanding performance. There is so much other content in this episode to connect past episodes with events to come to keep us on the edge of our seats. Job well done by all. Absolutely loved it from beginning to end.

Love Again (I) (2023)
10/10
Funny, heartwarming, feel good!
5 May 2023
I had high expectations and Love Again exceeded all my expectations. Sam Heughan, who plays Rob, and Priyanka Chopra, who plays Mira, are convincing as multilayered heartbroken, vulnerable and lonely people who cannot get on with their lives after lost loves. Beyond that, they are both nerdy and intelligent yet failing to resume their lives until they meet each other. Heughan is quite funny portraying Rob's neediness. I laughed out loud as did most of the audience by so many of Rob's interactions with his co-workers and reactions throughout the movie.

Chopra displayed Mira's sadness and vulnerability with total believability.

Celine Dion was very competent and comfortable playing herself in her first acting role. Her new songs for the movie were beautiful and relevant. The actors who played Rob's co-workers and Mira's sister did a wonderful job in these supporting roles.

I loved Love Again. We need more quality rom-coms like Love Again on the big screen. It is a genre totally underrepresented.

Outlander: Echoes (2022)

Droughtlander is over and Season 6 has been teed up perfectly
30 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After such a long Droughtlander, it was so wonderful to have this phenomenal show back. Episode 1 was the perfect tee up to the rest of Season 6. The Ardsmuir Prison scenes introduced the Christie family and was a reminder of Jamie's time while he and Claire were separated and how he dealt with her loss. The show addressed the aftermath of Lionel's attack on Claire, Marsali and the Ridge in a way that was compelling and totally understandable. Executive producer Matt Roberts and the author Diana Gabaldon both addressed the book readers who are upset that the show diverted from the books regarding Claire's self-medicating. The books are the books and the show is the show. Diana acknowledges it was not written that way but she supported the change. I, for one, find it very compelling and totally believable. Many trauma survivors have also chimed in to say that to have Claire move on as if nothing happened would be to fail to recognize adequately the magnitude of such a life changing experience. As usual, the cast is superb. Each actor embodies his/her character so effectively that you feel you have been transported into their place, time and their lives. I cannot wait to see how all the storylines of this season unfolds.

Love Younger, sad to see it end
21 September 2021
I love Younger! I watched the first 6 seasons weekly as they aired. I binged season 7. As soon as I finished watching the finale, I immediately started binge watching from the beginning. I love how they incorporated lines and concepts from the first show into the finale. I didn't realize the show had done that until I rewatched S1E1 because it had been so long ago. Each character is interesting in his/her own way. The actors are all so talented and perfect for their roles. Casting was superb. Each character is flawed yet lovable. Despite their flaws, I grew to like each one, whose qualities definitely outweighed any flaws they may have. Younger allows the viewer to step into the character with whom you either identify or empathize or wish you were, even if the character's life is more chaotic, troubled, exciting or confused than our own life. Kudos to TV Land for allowing this show to push the envelope and explore so many storylines and topics that are not typical for the TV Land or a non-cable network audience. This show handled each topic that could be considered controversial or risqué with sensitivity, intensity, realism and, when appropriate, comedy. I laughed, I cried. I could go on about all the reasons I love this show but I'll spare you. If you haven't seen Younger, please binge it. If you've seen Younger, watch it again. You will see it in a different way and appreciate it even more.

Chasing Waterfalls (2021 TV Movie)

One tent, woohoo!
28 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really like both Christopher Russel and Cindy Busby. Russell just oozes charm and connects emotionally with all of his co-stars. Busby was well suited for her role. I also liked that the writers actually let the characters develop an obvious interest in each other from the outset without one of them "denying" that they were interested in the other. The relationship had a nice build up from beginning to end. After Russell's character sought out Busby's character to apologize at the end, I found the final "Hallmark waited for a long time for the leads to kiss" kiss to be somewhat disappointing. There really was no passion which we expected after their obvious interest in each other. I find the said final kiss in most Hallmark movies to be very uninspired with a few exceptions. But the most unexpected lovely surprise was when Busby's character said she was fine with spending the night in one tent and Russell's character immediately cancelling the rescue helicopter. Way to go Hallmark! I gave my rating an extra star because of the "daring" reference to overnight in one tent.

Red Hot: Suspenseful from start to finish
13 March 2021
This movie is as good if not better than any other action suspense thriller film. I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. It is filled with twists and turns throughout. The characters of Tom and Grace are incredibly complicated. They each have psychopathic personalities. Tom uses his for good and Grace uses her for evil. Sam Heughan does a superb job at portraying this deeply flawed character who also has to wrestle with his feelings for Sophie which are counterintuitive to everything in his nature and everything he has learned and experienced in his work as a SAS agent. His love for Sophie is not part of his natural DNA and he often missteps in his relationship with her because he is just not wired that way. Despite their differences Tom and Sophie love each other but she really doesn't understand him until the end of the movie when she sees what his job actually entails and how good he is at it. Ruby Rose conveys her cold calculating character Grace who has no redeeming qualities in a truly dead pan and convincing fashion. The supporting cast also does a great job. Andy McNabb has done a brilliant job at weaving together a very intricate and complicated story of espionage, suspense, drama and action. Benji Morrison's sound track is like another character. It enhances every scene but does not overwhelm. I don't understand the incredibly negative reviews. Some people actually admitted to only watching less than 15 minutes. Others seem to have a beef with Sky TV. Others seem to have personal beefs with one or more of the actors. Others complained it was not realistic or believable. Seriously? This genre of movie is never judged on its realism or believability, because we all know, they never are. I defy any of the naysayers to state an action packed, suspense thriller movie which is realistic or believable, surely none of the wildly successful franchise film movies. Other reviewers had a bone to pick with some minute aspect in the film then condemned the entire movie. I read in disbelief people who thought it was low budget and cheaply or hurriedly made. I don't know if all these people watched the same movie as me. I don't get the harsh criticism. I loved SAS: Red Notice. Kudos to everyone involved.

Outlander (2014– )

Most Binge Worthy Show Ever
5 March 2021
I love everything about Outlander. I did not discover it until early spring 2020 during the pandemic. I finished all five seasons in a couple of weeks. Each episode is like watching a large scale epic movie. The scenery is stunning; the music is beautiful and is almost like a character itself; the costumes, sets and props are painstakingly accurate for the time periods and locations. The adaptation of Diana Galbadon's series of books for television brings to life a compelling historical drama heavy in romance with an underlying premise of time travel. But what really makes Outlander stand out is the incredible performances by its cast. Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan as the leads turn out superb performances episode after episode. Whether they are performing incredibly tense dramatic scenes, passionate romantic scenes, high energy action scenes or scenes of ordinary everyday life, Caitriona, Sam and the other actors turn out believable performances that make the viewers become totally absorbed in the storyline. I have never felt as strongly and passionately about a television show before. I now compare everything I watch to Outlander and nothing compares. It has set a very high bar. Because of the attention paid to historical accuracy, Outlander also provides an entertaining way to learn about the history of the Scottish Highlanders, as well as pre-revolutionary colonial America. I am so looking forward to season 6.

I'm in love
15 February 2021
Love, love, love Men in Kilts, Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish. Full disclosure...I am a huge Outlander fan, but even if you have never seen Outlander, you will still be entertained and you may just find Outlander will be your next binge. I had high expectations for this show and episode 1 surpassed my expectations. Sam and Graham ooze charm, humor and good looks. Their banter is so entertaining and funny. They have it all. The third star of the show is Scotland in all its beauty and majesty. The Scots whom they encounter along the way in episode one are enthusiastic and dedicated to their craft and seem amused and bemused by Sam and Graham. The 30 minutes flew by and I can't wait to see the remaining episodes. Slainte Mahth!

Taking a Shot at Love (2021 TV Movie)

Aim, shoot, SCORE!
6 January 2021
Taking a Shot at Love scored a hat trick! I have always been a fan of Luke Macfarlane, but man, he is aging like a fine wine, and I don't mean to say that he looks aged at all. He is looking and acting better than ever and, may I add, buff and mighty fine. I loved the casual jock look and he played the part perfectly. He and Alexa PenaVega had great chemistry. In the past, I was a bit underwhelmed with Alexa's roles and performances (could have been the scripts or the direction), but she really brought her A-game to this role. The plot line in this movie was not particularly novel for Hallmark, but what made the movie so special was the acting, chemistry by the leads and a well written script. Oh, and I have to applaud the young ballet dancers. They were awesome!

Five Star Christmas (2020 TV Movie)

Favorite Hallmark Christmas Movie of all time? Could be.
2 January 2021
"Laugh out loud funny", words used to describe a Hallmark movie, never...until this one. I could not believe I was actually laughing out loud. The credit goes to the writing, perfect casting and superb acting of all the cast. Bethany Joy Lenz is one of my favorite Hallmark actresses. I love her comedic timing, dramatic acting without going over the top and her chemistry with any actor who is cast with her. She and Victor Webster had chemistry galore. Everyone in this movie did a wonderful job. This movie had it all comedy, sentimentality, a good script, great acting and the usual touch of romance. And may I add?...an actual kiss 30 minutes before the end of the movie without someone or something interrupting. I think Hallmark thinks if you have an interrupted kiss at 30 minutes before the conclusion, it will make the final kiss more satisfying. Well Hallmark, it does not as proven by this movie.

Christmas on Ice (2020 TV Movie)

Christmas on Ice warmed my heart
22 December 2020
Lifetime has really upped its Christmas game in 2020. Its 2020 offerings far exceed most of its Christmas movies in prior years. I really liked this movie. Christmas on Ice's story followed a familiar pattern but it was done with a more compelling story and excellent acting. The leads, Abigail Klein and Ryan Cooper, were not known to me before but I will surely remember them now. They were perfectly cast and their acting was realistic and well done. What a pleasant surprise that the movie was actually filmed in the city where the story takes place. It added to the movie's believability. My one ever so minor complaint (and this is a chronic issue with me about movies set in New England with characters who are supposed to be from New England) is the pronunciation of the word "aunt". We here in NE do not say "ant"; we say "ahnt". Maybe Noah was raised somewhere else and I missed it. But for future reference directors...

The Christmas Setup (2020 TV Movie)
10/10
Love this movie
13 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie could be my favorite 2020 Christmas movie of the season. Full disclosure, I am a huge Fran Drescher fan from her The Nanny days. The acting, writing and production values in this movie surpasses anything I have seen on any of the networks (and there are many) running Christmas movies. What sets this movie apart is the superb acting of the leads, Ben Lewis and Blake Lee, as well as the excellent writing. Their chemistry was through the roof and, frankly, far superior to any heterosexual Christmas movie TV couple. After I saw the movie, I looked them up to learn more about them and discovered they are married in real life. They clearly brought their real life love and chemistry with them to the movie set. You really felt heartbroken for them when it looked like they were not going to be able to stay together. The supporting cast, including Fran, were also wonderful. The writing was current, witty with just the right amount of sentiment and emotion. The characters spoke and acted the way real people speak and act. For context...I am an older straight woman...and I loved this movie.

Is Bradley Cooper doing Hallmark movies?
28 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked all the stars, especially the two leads. They were charming and convincing in their roles.I am not familiar with Alvina August but she was perfectly cast and needs to see more lead roles. I've seen Eion Bailey in at least one other Hallmark movie in a more supporting role and thought he was very good. I am glad he is now in a leading role. He did an excellent job. Both he and Alvina exuded charm and likability. Having said that, I could not help but think that he looked just like Bradley Cooper. His blue eyes were piercing. I liked the concept of the movie but the execution (not by the actors) by the production team could have been better. After this intense build up and fabulous connection between the leads, when they finally meet at the end, there is essentially no time given to see them together. Even the obligatory final Hallmark kiss fell flat. After the high level of attraction they built up for each other, the embrace and kiss were meh. I don't blame the actors. Where were the writers, director and producers? I think we Hallmark viewers deserve a better conclusion to an otherwise good story.

Dancing with the Stars (I) (2005– )
5/10
What is up with the lighting, sound and cameras
20 October 2020
Most of the other reviews covered the change of hosts so I want to comment on the production values. Yikes, it is close to unwatchable. The audience sound track is so loud and overbearing, you cannot hear Tyra and it obscures the music. If sports can figure out the proper sound level of the audience, why can't a dance show? The lighting is beyond distracting. The constant change of colors, spot lights aimed at the camera and strobe type lights are just awful. Sometimes the dancers are in silhouette because of the bright lights behind them. Finally, the camera work is nauseating. It is constantly moving using really bad angles for actually watching the dancers. Sometimes the camera is so far away, the dancers are lost among the constant light show. I have tried to watch each show since it has returned but I have about 20 minutes or less before I have to change the channel. It wasn't broke so I don't know why they felt like they had to fix it. I'm sad because I love to watch dancing but they have made it so unwatchable.

Bottled with Love (2019 TV Movie)

Really enjoyable but pronounced "Aunt" in non-Boston accent
23 April 2019
I enjoyed the movie and I especially like the stars, Andrew Walker and Bethany Joy Lenz. The are good actors who actually show a range and are not one dimensional. Bethany's new hairstyle is really attractive and gave her a totally different look from her other Hallmark appearances. My minor complaint is the lack of any connection to Boston or New England. I don't expect an attempt at a Boston accent which can go really bad (the accent is pretty bad anyway and I can say that because I am from Massachusetts). BUT NO ONE from Massachusetts, Maine or Rhode Island pronounces the word "aunt" as "ant". We pronounce it as "ahnt". Bethany's character was from Boston but she said "ant" several times. Native New Englanders hear this pronunciation and cringe.
