Den skyldige (2018)
A sort of lite masterpiece
A movie that deserves to be more famous, I suspect that this might be a masterpiece of low-budget filmmaking. It takes place entirely in an emergency call centre where a disgraced police officer is serving out a punishment detail. He happens to receive a call from a woman who is in the process of being abducted and is drawn in, beyond the call of duty. What follows is a tense, atmospheric thriller that stays in the room and (for the most part) tight on the policeman's face and forces us to stick through every twist and turn. A must-watch for every fan of film.
Mahira (2019)
Strong characters and a gripping story make this kannada movie a rare treat
Mahira is sure to delight discerning movie-goers everywhere. It has several things going for it. The story is meaty, with suspense maintained through to the end. It's two protagonists -- both female! -- are strong yet sympathetic, drawing us in from the first frame to the last; newcomer Chaitra Achar, in particular, is a fabulous find and is sure to have a glittering career ahead. The songs are mellifluous and meaningful and fit unobtrusively into the story, and there is a freshness about the direction and the locations that make this a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
