The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Some corpses shouldn't get a "Resurrection"
It was a pleasure seeing Neo and Trinity in the same room again after so long, and that is the only nice thing I can say about this movie.
The 4th installment of the Matrix feels farcical, riddled with meta-commentary, thickly layed references, and Marvel-esque humour that feels so out of place that one's eyes start hurting from all the rolling. From the original trilogy we're now derailed into a story that carries none of the gravitas and high stakes of the earlier movies, offers no fresh ideas or new interesting characters, and shoves nostalgia in every nook and cranny. Indeed, it feels like shots from the old movies make up half of the runtime. They are even shown from a projector in one of the scenes.
Overall, a cringeworthy experience that left me wanting to "cleanse my palate" with Matrix 1-3.
Astro Loco (2021)
Delightfully low-budget
A fun, charming indie film with the oddest, most awkward pacing and dialogues. Numerous confused frowns, delighted grins, and an occasional hearty chuckle guaranteed.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (2021)
Beautiful & Boring
Despite the gorgeous animation and not-so-bad score, Nightmare of the Wolf is poorly structured, unfaithful to the Witcher lore, and worst of all - abysmally boring. The time between excessive exposition snooze-fests is sprinkled with cringey dialogue and questionable character choices. Not to mention that god-awful song at the very beginning - a kind of foreshadowing of what awaits you for the next hour and half.
