How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Slick, Sexy, Super Smart Legal Shark Pool
Each episode is cleverly written and superbly acted by a cast that delivers on every level. The plot twists resulting from the interpersonal relationships and the secrets they want to keep very much buried come thick and fast.. just when you think you've figured something out, the twist hits you leaving you breathy and eagerly awaiting the next episode. Viola Davis is brilliant as Annalise Keating.. a power house of intellect and vulnerability. This will suck you in and keep you entrenched in that tidal wave
Bird Box (2018)
Respectable psychological thriller
Gutsy film that's not only unique, it provides the suspense that had me riveted from the outset. Superb acting from Sandra Bullock et al who draw you into their characters' world, the psychological trauma of trying to outsmart something that can't be viewed and a mother's internal struggle against her nurturing instinct that ensures a couple of throat tightening scenes which lead to an ending that was appropriate to a story-line that paves the way for a sequel. Would I recommend the film? Without a doubt.
A Star Is Born (2018)
The star was Bradley Cooper, Gaga's died a dismal death
Know the feeling of looking forward to a firework display, the organiser lights the fuses and there's great anticipation.. then you wait, keep waiting, the fuses sputter and then die out. .. That was A Star Is Born.
Bradley Cooper was superb, the relationship between his character and that of Gaga's just didn't work. There was no credible romantic connection and I was in disbelief at the nominated award for her acting.
I wonder what everyone else reviewing was watching, it clearly wasn't the same film that I sat through. I can only presume those lauding such high praises are die-hard Gaga fans.
Mushrooms (1995)
How would you like yours cooked.. Medium rare?
Sheer comedic genius, fabulous black comedy that had my mother and I chuckling for days after watching and it remains one of our favourites. Very clever story-line and writing, superb acting. This needs to be rereleased. This pair of old spinster sisters show how creative people can be at problem-solving.. Seconds anyone?
