Les hommes de ma mère (2023)
Adore this film!
What a lovely story! Elsie doesn't realize the gift her mother has given her after her death. It comes in the form of a special request for the disposal of her ashes. During the process of fulfilling her mother's wishes, Elsie finds herself learning about and understanding parts of her and her mother's past, forgiving her father, and reconnecting with her one true love. The film moves along at a slow pace but I enjoyed every moment of it. The music and songs are perfectly chosen for each scene. I have seen this film twice and I love it even more the second time. Highly recommend it! Quebec makes great movies! Don't let subtitles scare you off.
Peace by Chocolate (2021)
Heartwarming!
Heartwarming inspirational true story of one Syrian refugee family who came to Canada to start a new life and the obstacles they faced. The son arrives first having never experienced winter; the others soon follow. They are fortunate to have community support to help them adapt to small town life and a new culture. Deep friendships are made and the family begins to find their way. It is also a universal story involving the conflicting life aspirations of a loving father and son. Relationships are strained and cultural norms are stressed but ultimately, love of family prevails. There are some funny moments and some sad ones too. Highly recommend!
