As an Indian, I hate this Hari, aka, Male-Lilly-Singh
6 April 2024
  • "You're the one who hate Indians, Hari. Not Simpsons"
Yes, I mean what I wrote. Yes, WE are stereotyped, we are mocked, our accent is mocked, and what not.

  • How is this disrespectful when it used to be true for first generation immigrants? Your family got its privileges and you don't have that accent because you're not an Indian, just of that descent. So, don't speak on our behalf, you idiot!

  • What, whoever this guy is, doesn't understand is, he is not Indian enough to have a say in it. In fact, he is probably more racist towards people of South Asia than the writers he is blaming. He hates our accent but welcomes our victim card, making all his stand ups about this and this only.

"How many times has been in India? How many shows has he had here? I didn't even know he existed till now and he feels entitled to represent my entire race."

  • He also completely disregarded one thing: however racist it might feel:
The Simpsons and Fox did put an entire Indian family in the most popular animated show of all time. When? Way back in the 1990s.

You should be grateful to them, not grumpy. Don't try to convert your emotional baggage into others' guilt.

I Really Admire This Cast & Crew
22 January 2024
This movie is so entertaining and it's mainly so thanks to the chemistry between the cast and crew which evidently suggests how fun (and hard) the preparation would've been. It's like a theatre group enchanting us with their presence and talent at so many places. I really wish that I get to witness these actors and filmmakers (of the theatre club Tollywood) in numerous other projects.

This movie, River, while in no way was better than Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes/Dorosute no hate de bokura (2020), which introduced me to this awesome talent pool a few days ago (Nov 28th, 2023 to be precise), when I had lost hope that original, accurate, and entertaining movies could still exist.

However, this one was probably more charged emotionally, even though we only gets to see more of Mikoto and Tako, who makes it feel like a romantic comedy (but in a good way).

The plot device of time loop is okayish and isn't exactly explained as much as it could've been. Even the attempts to resolve the conflict were quite rushed, quick, and not at all came when stakes were high. At times, the repetition did seem a bit too much. Other characters could been shown more often than Mikoto's sole viewpoint everytime the loop reset. Would've loved more of that serial writer, publisher, and the duo who just ate rice and chatted (but even then they're funnier than probably everyone else).

It also had one of the best dates in movies and that brilliant reference to Audrey Hepburn-Gregory Peck classic, Roman Holiday (1953).

Overall. Better than most movies of present era. At least most original movies. Not among the best though, unfortunately.

7.3/10.

So many GIMMICKS up its sleeve! Watch It & you won't stop laughing!!!
26 November 2023
I watched this anime because Kanojo, Okarishimasu (2020) Season 3 had just ended, and I was craving more harem tales. I began watching shows with the keyword "girlfriend" in them and found Kanojo mo Kanojo (2021) (also equally funny from its second season) and this.

Genre: Instead of being a pure romantic drama like the former or a silly sitcom like the latter, 100 Girlfriends is more of a mix between the two, with a touch of parodies of the kind we usually witness in South Park (1997).

Biggest Strength: Each episode is fresh and unique, thus putting an end to any presumptions you may have about "harem anime being so old-school and repetitive."

Gimmicks: A new take or gimmick is the only thing making me like a romance-comedy. While Kaguya-sama wa kokurasetai ~ Tensai tachi no ren'ai zunô sen ~ (2019) had the "battle of wits" (Death Note: Desu nôto (2006) too), this one actually does not rely on singular style but brings new ones in every episode. By the 6th episode, you will be laughing at a never-before-seen "kissing zombies' attack" as all of the lead guy's four girlfriends get drugged and chase him for endless kissing. Additionally, there're some fourth wall breaks, some mind games, and a brilliant plan to have a first kiss with two girls at once.

SO, PLEASE GIVE IT A WATCH. This show needs more viewers.

Brie Larson Strikes Again!
23 November 2023
Let me start with requesting IMDb to not decline my review again and again; it takes a bit of my time to write it.

Yeah, so after a somewhat mixed reception of Barbie movie (yeah, it wasn't acclaimed, it received polarized reviews because people still doesn't know if it's post or anti-feminist), this, one of the most awaited animated series in a long time (especially from Netflix), was also marketed horribly. Maybe smartly. Because most viewers wouldn't have tuned in after realising this show isn't what we rightfully wanted and were promised.

I won't spoil the plot, but let's just say it's WOKE. Because it is. Not everything has to be about modern audiences especially if they didn't care about the source materials, comics or movie, at all. Congratulations Brie Larson. You won. Your involvement now ensures that no matter how beloved an IP is, it'll be turned into a preachy lecture.

I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but there's even a scene in pilot where she straightaway tells Scott, "I can change my mind about sex later, it I want to." Really?

That's the new low. As much as the cry about toxic masculinity is already there, this series takes it to next step, ignoring "beta male," the highly representative portion of society and life of "actual" animes from Nihon, for a "strong female lead.

Yellow vs Red
26 March 2023
* Is this one of the best action films? - Absolutely!

*Is this the best Martial Arts film? - YES! In Hollywood!

*Is this the best solely action film of Keanu Reeves? Perhaps! I like Speed (1994) much more than everything else.**

*Direction: It's exquisite and surely an improvement over previous installments. There's more room for long continuous fight scenes and the car sequences are awesome too! The whole top angle fight sequence was so much fun to watch, and if you want more of that, go watch Brain De Palma's SNAKE EYES (1998).

> At 169 minutes, it's surely over-long by at least 20 minutes.

*Plot: The story is engaging but doesn't elevate itself with multiple twists and turns, much like the previous installments. The villain is somewhat dumb and we always know what'sgoing to happen next, even if we don't know how it's going to happen.

> Plus point is it keeps getting better and the ending my even be the best part of the entire thing.

*Cast: **Donnie Yen as Caine, the blind High Table assassin is the only fresh breath in the film making it entertaining, exquisite and emotional.

**Bill Skarsgård as the Marquis acts fine and dresses and better although the script doesn't allow him to be as sharp as literally any other character.

**Rina Sawayama as Akira has so much potential for possible future projects, but here she seems to have been nowhere near utilised.

**Reeves is of course the back bone of the film, giving his Career Best Performance!

* Costume design: In my opinion, the best part of the film. Especially that of Marquis, putting a richness to the whole thing.

* Cinematography: Almost every frame is breathtaking and justifies being set in night. Paris looks as beautiful as it did in classic Audrey Hepburn films (Charades (1963). Like the first 3 chapters had colours GREEN, BLUE & RESPECTIVELY, the YELLOW shines here. The stairs, the sunrise, the traffic, all are pleasing to eyes.

* Ending: >The ending could be interpreted in multiple ways, such as (SPOILERS) John died like said, or didn't and yet faked his death and went somewhere to avoid the underworld life and all the bounty hunters (like in Sherlock Holmes, where he is seen at his own grave).

>Though some are calling it the best part of the franchise thus far, I'll still place it second following Chapter 2.

>P. S. no offense to John Wick, but this film shows him a whole lot more invincible than even he is supposed to be capable of. Surviving multiple bullets is one thing, but falling from high story buildings onto metallic vehicles, and falling 200 steps? As a good film, this one deserves to have been somewhat more grounded or logical.

* Overall: > My rating: 7.6/10 > Rotten Tomatoes: 95% Fresh, 8.2/10 avg rating > Metacritic: 78.

One of the most perfect films
28 May 2022
Imagine an emotional callback movie (like Spider-Man No Way Home) that also have Blockbuster entertainment (like Avengers Endgame, Inception), while also having a cinematic appeal of the highest quality (like 1917, Dune, Dunkirk, Inception) and edge of the seat thrill and action (like MI, John Wick, James Bond, Jason Bourne, Inception)... Now add an aging superstar willing to fly actual fighter jets for realism... and you get TOP GUN: MAVERICK.

It's one of the most PERFECT films of all time (like Back to the Future, Inception, The Dark Knight, Inglourious Basterds, etc.)

Top Gun: Maverick (2022 movie) is a GREAT film for various number of reasons including the Action, Irony ("your kind is heading towards extinction"), Realism, Message, Stunts, Dedication, Emotions ("it's time to let go") and saving old style Hollywood cinema ("Not today").

All the above things may divert one's attention to assume that it's being loved for wrong reasons like Spider-Man No Way Home, but don't let this divert you as well. It is ridiculously good despite all that and being entertaining. It is indeed one of the most original movies while also being thrilling, entertaining, engaging at same time.

It's third Tom Cruise movie of this sort after Minority Report (2002) and Edge of Tomorrow (2014), which may not have anything wrong with it at all. Like a video game, with being something more realistic, entertaining, complex and original.

The X-Files (1993–2018)

Little brains of Stranger Things fans can't digest this.
17 June 2021
From Hollywood writers, you could either expect a boring 'art piece', a cinematic 'cliche' or an actual story. But this series beats them all. Take a random scene and you'd want to know what happens next. Acting is sooo good that actual federal agents must be jealous. Chris Carter is an unrecognised legend, just as Mitchell Hurwitz of Arrested Development and Craig and Carter of How I Met Your Mother. Do yourself a favor. Watch it right now.

For people who think Dark or Stranger Things are the greatest shows ever... A new tagline: 'X-Files is still out there'.

CAMERON CAMERON! CRUISE CRUZ!
24 May 2021
"A masterpiece of a film, Vanilla Sky , just like it's infinite interpretations, also has infinite ways to be reviewed. People hate it, love it, ignore it, understand it, doesn't understand, enjoy or get frustrated. That's just like Cruise's character David Aames, who has no idea who's after him and with what intentions." Moving on from other people, I just loved it and the only thing that wasn't right with it is that it's a remake; and the haters would forever use this fact against it. This film sticks with you. It's far away from being boring. It teaches you so much, but you might not see that through. And that's okay too.

Another weird thing is, the best of critics like Ebert and Richard put it in their 'Top 10 Films of 2001' lists; yet, it's critical score is just average. I guess this automatically makes others as worst critics.

Structurally, it's not so different from PSYCHO. Girl meets guy. Guy has a haunting relationship with another woman, who creates trouble between them. And in the end, a psychiatrist explaining what was going on. BUT, it has a way too complex character transformation. Dozens of internal conflicts. And internal conflicts are never bad for a screenplay.

Music was superb, Cruise's performance was just PERFECT. None could have pulled it off the way he did. Not even the actor in original Spanish version. Time's Square scene should alone make it the cult classic, which it kind of is.

Overall, please please watch it. That's one thing you won't ever regret. Everyone needs different perspectives and this film would show you just that.

Now I get Denis Villeneuve.
14 May 2020
I've watched all his mainstream films, but they were too good to understand in every aspect, especially the deep hidden meanings beyond those spectacular visuals, stunning cinematography as in BLADE RUNNER 2049, actions in SICARIO, and emotional and dramatic thrills in INCENDIES and PRISONERS. But after watching a small and mediocre films as this, now I understand why Villeneuve is special. He made full use of one accident scene and all the desert scenes making the film look almost as beautiful as car chasing scenes in THE DARK KNIGHT and the space sequences in GRAVITY, INTERSTELLAR, etc respectively. He managed to give an average script a direction which is more than extraordinarily.

Also the performances of both leads were great. The cab driver subplot also had a promising thriller content, which could've been more useful if the film had been a thriller.

Overall, beautiful direction and great performances make this mediocre story to be more than one time watch. 7/10 (6 for script, 8 for acting, 9 for direction )

Watched/Read-the-subtitles at MAMI Film Festival Mumbai!
19 October 2019
Realistically showing the real life struggles of private ambulances in Mexico City. With tons of Insert/Extreme-Closeup/Point-of-view shots, it keeps going upwards and downwards. Sometimes feel like a well written/acted family-drama, other times just a documentary, that's trying too hard.

Emmy for Multi camera editing... Really?
4 October 2019
After ripping of all the funny one liners from FRIENDS and itself, it has now started copying the style of How I Met Your Mother as well. And the even more ridiculous thing is that it even won an Emmy... So I guess each and every single episode of HIMYM did deserve this award, and way more than this one. Really going down hill and shamelessly copying everything innovative and unique from other sitcoms.

Joker (I) (2019)

Perfect in every aspect.
1 September 2019
Truly a masterpiece, The Best Hollywood film of 2019, one of the Best films of the decade... And truly the Best film to bring a comic book so chillingly and realistically to real ife. Remarkable Direction, Cinematography, Music and the Acting. Some people are surprised to find it DISTURBING and VIOLENT, but it's a necessity and message. It's about society and reflects those underappreciated/unrecognized/bullied people, proving they can do something too. The way it shows class difference, corruption and how rich and talented rule others around them is not exaggerated and that's what makes it different. It's BELIEVABLE. There could be multiple JOKERs living in our society that could shake those around them in much bitter way than the film shows making people uncomforting people. Consider this a wake up call, a message, but first a film. A PERFECT film.

Why this underrated??? [Date: August 24th]
24 August 2019
I don't understand why people are not appreciating this beautiful piece of work as it deserves. Instead they are all over pieces of crap such as 13 Reasons Why. Am I the only one to see that it is better than 13's all three seasons (latter two not as much counts obliviously)? The writing and direction are good. But the performances are GREAT. Penn Badgely is no less than Deniro in Taxi Driver or Gyllenhall in Nightcrawler.

Worth the wait, budget and Anticipation!
1 July 2019
Unlike most of highly anticipated, big budget and most awaited films these days, it is a treat. No comparison with Pulp Fiction, but it does kinda remind of that. Has the charm that was found in Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained.

Toy Story = Heartwarmingly Original Installments

You see, I consider Toy Story 3 as the best ending to a film ever do it may seem like this was unnecessary. But it reflects the class system so well, like, poor kids too deserve to play with toys and it's not necessary that toys have to be loyal to their kids.

Undoubtedly the best animated film of the year so far.

The only franchise that can be trusted for good sequels.

All films are nearly 100% fresh at RT too and it's not at all comparable with others.

Go for it...

Stop spreading Negativity!
6 May 2019
The episode felt like a GoT episode as much, as any of the previous 70 episodes. It had batlles, deaths, wrath, and most importantly cliffhangers. People are just mad because the storyline isn't seem to be going the way they want it. At least let the writers do their work. If it would follow your theories, there won't be surprises, and it'd become "OBVIOUS". Believe it, there's nothing wrong with this episode. It's the third last episode, and you should be thankful for that and respect that. After all we don't know what is going to happen in the end, but we can hope that it is going to be AWESOME.

Not as entertaining, slightly feels slow and boring. Storyline is okay. But there's actors... Like real actors. Actors who can turn any average script and plot to overwhelming. Plus, the screenplay is awesome. Swinging between different flashbacks... You'd only like it if you deserve it. [Date: March 21st- Apr 1st]
