The Two Ronnies (1971–1987)

So very funny, even after all these years
18 November 2017
I have just spent an evening watching a selection of this marvellous television series and I can honestly say I haven't laughed so much in years. Right from "And Here is the news" to "and it's goodnight from him" I don't think I stopped laughing in every episode I watched. And what is more is that both Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett actually looked as though they were enjoying themselves (as I am sure they were), as they presented their show. When you compare the brilliance of this pair to the modern day comedians (if I may call them comedians), there is just no comparison. Theirs is a magic we may never see again.

I hated it
3 August 2017
I really don't have anything to add that has not been said before by those who have disliked this movie. I just hated it and have no idea why it did so well at the box office I hated it when I first screened it back on first release - and for goodness sake why glamorize prostitution? In all the films I have screened over 50 years this would have to be close to the worst.

First class Thriller - Not to be missed!
3 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I happened to see Chain of Events when it was first released back in 1958 as a supporting feature, and have been anxiously waiting to see it again. I purchased a copy on DVD as soon as it was released and was not disappointed. It is a brilliant thriller beginning with a nondescript bank teller who fails to pay his bus fare and progresses through blackmail, a car chase, and ending up with a death. Brilliantly directed by Gerald Thomas from a play by Leo McKern. Dermot Walsh is excellent as the bank teller and is well supported by a good cast. Ballard Berkeley (The Major from Fawlty Towers) even has a small part. All in all an excellent little thriller.

Thoroughly Enjoyable and Highly Recommended

Warning: Spoilers
I came across this DVD by chance while searching for something else. I* am probably a little biased because South Pacific is one of my favorite musicals, but I was totally rapt watching this. I thought Reba McEntire was wonderful as Nellie Forbush - her singing was excellent. The same can be said for both Brian Stokes Mitchell as Emile De Becque and Lillias White as Bloody Mary. Jason Danieley was acceptable as Lt Joseph Cable and John Schuck made a pretty good Captain Brackett. The orchestra and supporting singers were great and the only criticism was with the casting of Alec Baldwin as Luther Billis. He just didn't look comfortable in the part. All in all though a terrific production I will certainly watch again.
