Loki: Glorious Purpose (2021)
10 stars for D.B Cooper
That was such a niche reference and made me so happy. Great episode but that scene in particular got me so hype!
The Walking Dead: What Comes After (2018)
...That's it?
Well after a marketing stunt of telling us a character was going to die and to tune in for his final episode, it's finally here.
And it's...underwhelming.
Visually, it's beautiful and very ambitious. Lots of great callbacks to the first few seasons and seeing old characters return, all while Rick hallucinates and fights his injury. But for the amount of work put in and the way everyone was hyping it up, there wasn't really a lot here. Lots of Rick just walking a bit faster than the walkers while stumbling and barely escaping. And then in the penultimate moment where the bridge blows up and the death seems real, he's...saved by a helicopter? Saved by Jadis? What the heck?? I waited to see what the hell that meant but NOPE, BYE RICK. That's it? Seriously? And then we get a random time jump at the end where Judith is suddenly older and saving people from death. Ok...
Andrew Lincoln will go down as a legend, the main hero of a once incredible show. But he deserved a better final episode. This was just a poorly done ratings stunt that failed to give us a satisfying conclusion to Ricks story. 4/10
Game of Thrones: The Dragon and the Wolf (2017)
Absolutely incredible
I'm still shaking from how good this episode was. This is simply one of the best episodes this show has ever had. The tension and intensity starts at the beginning and never lets up. The scene in the dragon pit with all the main characters is executed extremely well. The acting, music, and cinematography is absolutely perfect. Littlefinger's death is shocking and awesome, and I never knew how much I wanted him dead until I saw Arya slit his throat. There's finally some redemption for Theon and for Sansa. Then we get to the climax where Cercei reveals that she staged the meeting and never intends to honor her commitment, and finally Jaimie decides he's had enough of her betrayals and leaves. These scenes with Jaimie and Cercei are very powerful, and watching him ride into the winter free from her control is awesome. Then Bran and Sam find out the truth about Jon's heritage: he is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, making him the true heir of the iron throne. This scene is done beautifully, with Bran witnessing Rhaegar and Lyanna's wedding while at the same time, Jon and Dany finally get together. And finally, we have the destruction of the wall by the Night King. The CGI of wight Viserion is breathtaking, and the final moments of the show where the dragon burns the wall are the perfect way to end an incredible season. If season 8 is as good as (or better than) season 7, Game of Thrones will go down as the best TV show ever. 10/10
The Walking Dead: Sing Me a Song (2016)
Great Episode
Negan is such a dick but he is hilarious and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is so captivating to watch. Amazing acting from both JDM and Chandler Riggs.Carl and Negan were the focal point of the episode, and their story was incredible and just a lot of fun to watch. Carl is super brave and Negan is totally compelling, and he has some more human moments this episode that are really neat. He also sticks to his guns being a huge dick and we get to see the iron. Gnarly. Rosita kicked some ass and surprisingly, so did Father Gabriel. Rick and Aaron weren't super exciting but next week should be a good story for them as they try to get the supplies from the lake. Really fun episode with a lot of intensity and great moments that set up an explosive mid-season finale. Spencer should do a gut check before next week ;) 10/10
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
Absolutely Insane
This episode was the hardest thing i've ever had to watch. i had no idea what to expect as far as how gory it would be, but it felt like i was watching something that shouldn't be on TV. Like many people, i felt cheated by the finale cliffhanger and was angry that i had to wait for so long to see the kill. At this point i wish i had never seen this episode because i'm such an emotional wreck right now. That being said, let's get into specifics.
Abraham and Glenn both get Lucilled tonight. I wasn't very surprised about Abe because that was my prediction, but it was so graphic and horrible and i was so upset that he never got to be with Sasha. After that i was numb but still doing OK. Then Daryl just had to punch Negan, and he pays for it by watching Glenn die in the most graphic and disturbing way i've ever seen. I still feel sick and it's been like 4 hours since i saw it. Glenn and Maggie were the best couple on the show and Glenn was a ray of hope, and his death just reinforces the idea that their hope is completely shattered. It was so hard to say goodbye, and their deaths will have a big impact on the group for a very long time.
The acting was absolutely breathtaking. Having seen Greys Anatomy, Supernatural, Watchmen, and tons of other films or shows featuring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, i know he's fantastic at acting. But he is so perfect as Negan that it's unbelievable. The smile, charisma, and brutality he portrays is absolutely breathtaking, and he stole every scene he was in. Negan is gonna be an amazing character to watch, and JDM is absolutely incredible and i can't wait to see more. Andrew Lincoln has always been one of the best actors on television, and his "broken Rick" is so devastating and so believable that it's hard not to cry. Rick and Negan together are like two bombs a second away from blowing up, and the tension is crazy. The whole mental breaking of Rick is done incredibly well, so hats off to Nicotero. The rest of the cast was phenomenal as always, and the heartbreak of Maggie and Sasha was felt by all of us.
This episode was disturbing and emotional and simply magnificent. It was worth the wait and made up for the finale fully. I can't wait to see the rest of this season. Negan is here and it's a game changer. Bring out the tissues.
Suicide Squad (2016)
I just flat out hated it
PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE! The whole movie is so choppy that there is absolutely no flow, and every time a new character is introduced it looks like a bunch of random facts you'd find on a trading card. The flow of the movie is so choppy and ugly that i started praying for it to be over after like 20 minutes. There are amazing songs in this movie that get to play for 30 seconds and suddenly there's another song playing and its really weird. The whole plot is a complete mess and i cringed every time Enchantress and her weird brother talked in their weird language about their weird plans for world domination or...something like that. She was awkwardly gyrating while delivering her lines and it was so awkward i just had to laugh because i wasn't sure what else to do. This movie sounded like it was written by middle schoolers who had 3 hours to write a superhero script but had no ideas who the characters were. The only good thing about this movie was Viola Davis, and her story barely made sense. Will Smith was the only funny thing, and Margot Robbie clearly worked really hard on her character but i don't think anyone could successfully pull off this trash of a script. The battle between the squad and the faceless zombie like army is a waste of time, much like Slingshot or whatever that guys name was. The movie should have just been called "Harley Quinn and Deadshot: Dawn of F*** This" and probably would have included more than about 13 minutes of the Joker. For all the hype around Jared Leto, he was just super weird and didn't really bring anything memorable to the movie. I thought Leto and Robbie both did their best, but this movie made the Harley/Joker romance so cringeworthy it was unwatchable. And I'll agree that she looks fantastic but we could do with less close ups of her ass. The final battle was so terrible that i left to go watch Nine Lives, because even a horrible talking cat movie had to be better than the CGI barf all over the screen. Positives: some funny moments, a few good performances, one or two good action sequences, and a cast that obviously did their best when they could. Negatives: horrible writing, horrible villain, jumbled plot, messy transitions, awful CGI, too many cringeworthy scenes to count, and absolutely no fun. I personally love superhero movies, and I'm a huge fan of the MCU and was very excited for this one. But when one of the main members of the squad died, i literally didn't care at all. I was actually disappointed that the bomb didn't destroy everyone else and therefore end the movie. Having seen the Fantastic Four movie i didn't think a superhero squad could ever be that bad again. But after hearing reviews and going in with low expectations while hoping to be pleasantly surprised, i somehow ended up even more disappointed. I cant even explain how truly horrible this movie is and how much of a let down it must be to those who loved this comic and didn't get to see their live action dreams come true. This movie was supposed to be a redemption for Zack Snyder and the people in charge of the DCU but its probably the worst film they could have ever made. I laughed more when someone in our theater called King Kong "Harambe" during the Skull Island trailer than i did throughout this entire movie. If you see this movie and like it, i applaud you. If you haven't seen it yet and you're kind of on the fence, consider this review a warning. I would only recommend this movie to the blind and deaf interested in a fun night out
