Debi Marshall Investigates: Frozen Lies (2019)
Appalling 'journalism'
Makes herself the story (I thought not doing that was journalism 101) and cherry picks information to create a narrative. Not a credible fact involved in this doco.
Re her personal life and her ex partner's murder she doesn't even call out the fact that the Mr Big tactic that the cops attempted to use (unsuccessfully) to get a confession is largely discredited, and in some jurisdictions unlawful. Cherry picking as usual and weirdly injecting her own story unnecessarily into this doco.
Relies on facts from an autopsy that she discredits (yes they doctor was unqualified). The set up for the revelation about the dog collar (outside the gaol) and subsequent "gotcha" (outside the gaol) is implausible at best and of course there is no record of it other than her dramatic statements that she's achieved a breakthrough. 🙄
The researcher (Holly?) did a good job but the mental gymnastics involved in the murder board placing Derrance at the centre of the family were worthy of Olympic gold and then she disregards this information anyway and goes back to her original theory that David was getting dumped by Derrance.
Umm. How about some evidence like did Derrance actually buy David a carpet cleaning company as claimed or was Derrance or the friend or both just talking rubbish? They have his financials so surely they can prove at least this one thing???? Yeah nah that's not Debi's style. She just states it and it becomes a fact for her.
And her crying and wanting a hug at the end was just more about Debi.
Fractured, self indulgent and lacking in facts it was a puff piece at best.
Will never watch anything involving her again.
Our Flag Means Death: This Is Happening (2022)
Glasnost?
Anyone else wondering why Admiral Chauncey has Gorbachev's birthmark? Is this a Glasnost between Pirates and empires?
Also loving the they them pronouns.
Nomadland (2020)
A movie without a story to tell
The story didn't have a point of view which made it excruciatingly dull. Would have been a better documentary as at least it could have explored some of the issues that led to the failure of capitalism.
The Final Table (2018)
US centric show and a dud finale
Obviously a USA based show skewed heavily towards favouring the American contestants. Japan the only Asian country represented in a global cooking competition! Seriously. No Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Chinese cooking. Not any hint of an African cuisine? No Greek, Turkish, Lebanese? No Eastern European cuisine. A token appearance from the subcontinent in India.
If your country's national dish could be barbecue (Brazil, USA I'm looking at you) then you don't have a national cuisine.
The finale was a complete dud. The least worthy and interesting contestant won after coasting through the whole show on Darren's talent. Mark - you were robbed.
Lost in Space (2018)
Serious continuity issues
What is going on? Happy with the time jumps but there are serious continuity problems in this
show. Also character problems.....mum is a clever badass but then submissive when her husband endangers her children (that she just tried to get custody of). None of this makes any sense.
