The Iceman Cometh (1960)
Robards last monologue is beyond spectacular!
I found the cast to be astonishing especially Robards in the monologue at the end of the piece which seemed to be the longest monologue I have ever witnessed. Now, if you can be patient enough for this very long piece of drama besides the long monologue at the end, you will be rewarded with a story and characters and a denouement/climax that is so fulfilling and moving. Heart-stopping! Utterly! And in terms of facing addiction and pain and facing yourself, this is one of the best, if not-- the best, I have ever seen. Robards and the actor playing Larry are riveting and mesmerizing and yes, Robert Redford is in the cast as well... a fantastic cast that also includes the father of Matthew Broderick. For Eugene O'Neil fans, fans of the theater and those who relish great writing and acting-- treat yourself right.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
wonderful brilliant comedic film... ranks among best of best!
amazingly and brilliantly funny... the singing line of Madeline Kahn's character is the epitome of this fantastic comedic film: "they are always coming and going... but coming too soon!" Performances by Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, and Harvey Korman to boot make this film easily... one of the best comedies of all time. A must rent for all comedy lovers and then when you are finished with that go to www.apologist-movie.com (password "paprika") and see my comedic turn in another very funny but very short "short" 5 min. flick. Another Mel Brooks film to must watch if you love this one would also be History of the World Part One and of course... always and forever... his "Young Frankenstein". And I vote that Gene Wilder is easily one of the greatest comedic film actors of all time. And yes, his partnership in film with the late great Richard Pryor was extraordinary. Richard will be missed. Love you Richard! Well, enjoy watching and I don't work for any of the above so I wasn't paid to write this! :-)
The Apologist (2005)
A fantastically funny and moving short and New York Story!
This is a wonderfully funny and hilarious short film that also has a great dramatic edge... terrific thruline and arc... and is truly moving. All New Yorkers will relish this story but any man or woman especially women will be impressed and touched by the dynamic explored between man and woman... stranger to stranger in this beautifully shot short (kudos to the cameraman and director) with great music that has the earmarks of a great Larry David episode or the angst of a fantastic Albert Brooks movie... I suggest the previous mentioned see this film because I love and adore this film! It accurately deals with love, confrontation, and hostility in the big city and how we co-exist. I recommend this short film to everyone and to mature kids of all ages.
