Very Laughable and It's Not A Comedy
12 May 2024
I never bothered watching this when it came out. The previews at the time painted it as fairly boring. I don't think the film has aged very well.

To me it seems like a Star Wars ripoff with some Dr Who tradis' thrown in, thunderbird characters and Flash Gordon dodginess without the great Queen soundtrack.

I couldn't help but laugh at the dodginess of the film from the big eyebrow dudes with stained lips that looks like they've been felching, assassin glass dildoes and irrelevant inner dialogues. I'm sure that "spice" is their codeword for drugs. There's one scene where Patrick Stewart is playing some guitar/sitar thing and they all seem to be sitting around smashed of their dials. Even the cast seen to be laughing at the film throughout

If you like dodgy Dr Who type movies, this will probably be right up your alley. Maybe worth a watch for how pretentious and silly it is. But 2.5hrs is a long time for any B grade movie.

Strangely Familiar and Entertaining
27 February 2024
I wasn't too sure what to expect from this considering I grew up watching Isla in Home and Away LOL. But after watching some of the previews gave it a go. I watched the first season in one sitting as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Which is how all series should engage the viewer.

As I said in the title, it's got a strangely familiar story line. Seemingly taking some inspiration from the classic "American Werewolf In London" and "Santa Clarity Diet". The stories engaging with some chuckles thrown in. The gore is kept to a minimum so I suppose the kidlets could watch too. But adults will definitely pick up on the subtle humour.

I would have rated it a little higher except it's based in Australia yet Stan feels compelled to have an American actor (Josh Gad) playing the father and Isla Fisher playing Mary with an American accent when she's Australian. Nothing against Josh's acting as it's a fine part he does, but couldn't they have just used all Aussie actors for a change?

Overall the first season was entertaining to watch and very much look forward to the second and hopefully a third season.

A Decent Take On The Exorcist
14 January 2024
I wasn't really too sure what to expect from this movie. I wouldn't say I'm generally a fan of movies with Russell Crowe in them, but I did enjoy this movie.

It's a good take on the whole demon possession theme, with some homage to the original Exorcist film. The story centres around a family that moves to an old Abbey they've inherited from their deceased husband/father. While renovations are going on, an old kl buried secret is revealed. The young boy gets possessed and it's up to the popes exorcist (Russell Crowe) to help the boy and banish the demon.

Along the way, the exorcist reveals the reason behind the demonic possession and the dark history of the former Abbey.

Maybe not as scary as the original but there's some good special effects, a little bit of humour added in with a few jump scares. If you can get over having to read a lot of subtitles, it's not a bad movie.

Nothing New For Who Fans
6 January 2024
As with a lot of these "Rock In Review" type docos, there's not a lot from the actual band and more about the numpty's commenting about it. This documentary is basically a few rock journalists giving their opinions on footage from "The Kids Are Alright" - without the actual great music that was in the actual film. Although Malcolm Dome must have been smashed because he was fairly subdued in the doco and not lunging off the chair to eat your arm off like a rabid dog.

The one good thing that they do is have a guitar player showing some chords of the songs and how Pete plays them.

Other than that, you might as well watch "The Kids Are Alright" and watch the TV spots in their entirety.

So Bad Its Good
29 December 2023
I can't even remember why I watched this movie in the first place. Maybe because I was searching for Tales Of The Crypt and this came up and I thought it was a funny title. Could have been because Julie Strain was in it?

From the get go, this movie has all of the things Troma films are known for - bad acting, bad scripts, dodgy camera work and lots of nudity'

The films roughly an anthology (similar to Tales Of The Crypt) of three stories that all turn bad at the end (was it ever good?). The first is about a police detective investigating murders in a strip club. The second about the first turn on. The third is about a stripper party some frat boys hold that turns horribly wrong.

The acting and story line is extremely bad. That said, it's so bad it's good. I was laughing hysterically throughout with how stupid this movie is. There's also some lovely norks to pass the time. There's some well known faces throughout.

Don't expect too much from this. If you love B grade films (this might even go as low as C or D), then sit back for a wild ride of stupidity. I'm putting in the realms of "Kentucky Fried Movie", "Poultrygeist" etc. I'm sure it was never meant to set the world on fire. I'd even watch it again for how silly it was.

More a Re-Animator Remake than Night Of The Living Dead
29 December 2023
While it shares both titles, this film is more a remake of Re-Animator tha NOTLD. When I saw it had Jeffrey Combs, I was in. He's one creepy dude in movies - even when he's not meant to. The only part of the story that even resembles NOTLD is the opening scene when a bother and sister are at the cemetery.

Gerald Tovar Jr (Andrew Divoff) inherits the family business when his father dies. His estranged brother Harold (Jeffrey Combs) returns wanting money. Little does he know what secrets his brother is hiding in the crematorium and fathers office.

The movie is a little slow to begin with while setting up the scene, but pretty on par with low budget flicks. Most of the action and gore is in the last half hour. Deadpan humour is provided by Combs in the way only he can. There's a dialogue about half way through where the brothers are discussing Zombie outbreaks but describing the NOTLD remakes - which I thought was pretty funny.

Just don't expect too much from this, but worth a watch at least if you're into B grade movies.

Evil Dead NZ Style
21 October 2023
I haven't laughed this hard during a movie for a long time. It combines Evil Dead, metal, splatter and comedy all in the one movie. Almost like Evil Dead met Shaun Of The Dead with a metal soundtrack.

Four teenage students form a metal band. They come across the pages of an ancient song that can summon demons. So of course they play it. Soon the neighbours all become demons. It's up to Deathgasm to retrieve the song pages to set everything back to normal.

One of the funniest scenes was going back to his uncle's place and they fight the demons with sex toys. I've never laughed that hard.

Well worth a watch and probably a second.

A Must Watch For Fans And Musicians Alike
14 October 2023
Regardless of whether you like Tom's songs, there's no doubting he had an amazing journey. There's a lot of information for fellow musicians about how the music industry works, working with other musicians, song writing and dealing with audiences.

It's great seeing how the band formed, amongst friends he grew up with and still remained. Through humble beginnings, success, being ripped off by record companies, hit records, personnel changes, meeting heroes, forming the traveling wilburies, rock hall inductions there's something for everyone.

A true musician was lost when Tom passed, but his songs live on.

Zombies - The Musical
1 October 2023
A teen zombie comedy musical. They were probably trying to cash in on films such as high school musical at the time.

The movie itself isn't too bad and does have some Shaun of the Dead influence, as well as some funny moments. Unfortunately the musical parts are terrible and cringe worthy. If they cut those parts and put some other backing track, it might not have been so bad. There's your stereo typical characters included (you know the ones) and ends up being very predictable.

Unlike a zombie flick like Shaun of the dead, I'd probably leave this alone as it's one of those movies you'd watch once and then forget all about it. Not a keeper by any means.

Better Call Saul Because Nothing's Going To Fix This Show
11 September 2023
They called Saul and it still sucks. Bob should have done like Saul and run with the money.

The shows about a mundane angry college professor that just can't seem to get over his lack of life accomplishment. Nobody wants to watch an unfunny person trying to get over their midlife crisis

As for many, I was interested in seeing what Bob did next after enjoying Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Well this was it. I tried to have an open mind but after each episode, I wasn't drawn in and got harder and harder to watch.

The acting is generally good, but I really don't care for any of the characters.

Do yourself a favour and pick another show. I've bailed after four episodes.

Don't Waste Your Time
23 April 2023
110min of boredom. I really don't know what it was about. I sat through 20 min of it and flicked through the rest. It didn't seem to get much better. The trailer for this predicted something else. In reality it seemed like art school stop animation film making. Lots of still scenes with voice overs, subtitles. Nothing scary about this other than how bad the movie actually was. Do yourself a favour and completley skip this movie. Unless you want to be bored for 1h40min. I'd give it zero stars except the minimum is one. It's even hard to write any type of review and make up 1000 words LOL. There's nothing good about it.

Worth A View, No Real Live Footage With Watching
1 April 2023
Basically as others have said, it's a time capsule of Punk Rock at the time. While it's nice to see some familiar faces in their formative years like Billy Idol, The Clash etc it's mostly unknown bands from the time. If you're expecting to see The Sex Pistols in all their glory, you'll be sadly disappointed as theres a small bit at the start. Probably the most interesting part is The Clash being taught to play Reggae. But mostly clips of bands playing extremely bad and fly on the wall interviews. The footage is also pretty bad and hard to makeout faces sometimes.

Worth a look, although you'd only watch it once then move on.

Still A Spectacular Concert
4 February 2023
Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on (Syd, Roger), there's no denying that Dave along with Rick and Nick put in one spectacular show for the time.

While I was familiar with Pink Floyd and some of their work, this was the first time (as many) had seen something in the scope of what a PF concert was. The spectacle, the huge screen....that fan exclaiming "It's a f@#$ing big pig!"

Roger thought they wouldn't survive without his input, however Dave was a prolific songwriter in his own right and lots of the hits for the band were penned by him. A Monetary Lapse Of Reason was a great follow up to Rogers less than stellar Final Cut. It's one of those albums that you can listen all the way through.

While it's a bit dated with the 80s cinematography, its still one of the best captured concerts of all time. Do yourself a favour and check it out.

Power & Volume
4 February 2023
This is a must see for any Who or Rock fan.

While there's some early history, it's a great caption of the time it was made when the band were at their peak. Pumping out great songs and some behind the scenes of Who Are You recordings sessions.

There's some included TV interviews which capture insights into the members of the band and are still great to listen, their dismissive view of rock'n'roll at the time and Keith Moon in all his glory showing why he was named Moon The Loon.

Probably the best part of the film comes halfway through when the band starts playing "Sparks". Then you get a sense of what the band was all about with Power & Volume. Their live shows at the time must have been something to behold. Even Jack Black used the Kilmore scene of Pete knee sliding during Won't Get Fooled Again in b School Of Rock.

More Of A History Of The Band Than The Album
3 February 2023
The documentary while it has the title of The Wall is anything but. Basically it's a documentary of the early career of the band with Syd for 60min and skims over the rest of the catalogue - including the titled The Wall. I was under the impression that it would be about the making of The Wall album.

There's very little included Pink Floyd music and the stuff that is, focuses on early efforts. The interviews include are generally with people that apparently hung out with the band during Syd's days. Any interview with members of Pink Floyd seem to be taken from other interviews made.

While not a bad documentary of the bands early days and future achievements, it is lacking with actual content from the band themselves.

Do yourself a favour and look up David Gilmours full interview for this as it sheds a completely different light on his relationship with Syd, the music and other members of the band (if you can get over his constant nose picking).

A Quick Summary Of Marshall Amps & Jim Marshall
13 January 2023
While it's a great summary and there's some well known figures, it would have been great to see more instead of excerpts from old interviews (like an Angus Young, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore etc interview).

But there's some great insight from Pete Townshend, John Lord, Slash amoung others. I think it's worth it just to listen to Lemmy.

The doco briefly outlined their major models (like JTM45, JTM100 and JCM800), but there's a lot more models used (like the bluesbreaker, major 200 etc). And could have said something about their failures (like the 8x12).

One other thing which they never really touched on (which was probably nearly as important as the amp) was their speaker of choice - Celestion. This is a huge part of the sounds and what gave the amp the character too.

Have To Force Myself To Watch It
21 September 2022
After all the great reviews of this show, it seemed right up my alley. But sitting through Season 1, waiting for a good bit to happen is few and far inbetween. There's no episode ending where I really want to find out what happens in the next episode. It took about 2 months to watch season 1 and I watched several other shows inbetween LOL.

The sets and CGI look pretty good, but for me that's where it ends. None of the characters are memorable except for maybe Thomas Jane (Joe Miller) and that's because of his stupid hair style. I just wanted to take to it with scissors. Reminds me of Alex Shelley's hair on a bad day LOL. Steve Strait (Jim Holden) really needs a few regular punches to the face from Amos as for a ships "Captain", he's pretty whiny. Shohreh Aghdashloo (Chrisjen Avasarala) voice is so husky it puts Tom Waits to shame. I kept wanting to clear MY throat with a cough. Sounds like she's been smoking 5 packs a day for her career.

I really wanted to like it. I couldn't take it anymore after a few episodes into Season 2. Life's too short to sit through dribble.

Pure Cheese
26 June 2022
The best part about the movie was the trailer LOL. They obviously picked the best bits because it looked decent and funny. Well the only thing it ended up being was - too long (over 2hrs), bad acting, out of control CGI and a plot that's been done a thousand times over.

It really had the potential to be good. Up until you find out what the moon actually was, it's generally boring. They could have made a 90min flick and cut a lot of that garbage out. I don't think even Halle Berry getting her ya ya's out could save this pile of crap.

I'm all for total apocalyptic devastation movies but this ones been done a thousand time and gets boring. Almost to the point of a cookie cutter movie (which seems the Hollywood motto these days - Something (insert object) is going to hit the earth in a matter of days. Fired and disgraced employee (insert job agency) is the only one who can fly and land (insert transport). Conspiracy theorist who has no qualifications is taken into said agency because he knows more than the other ten thousand scientists. The military wants to override rescue mission because it - its too damn risky. So lets nuke the son-of-bitch. Yada yada yada.

At 4 stars it's watchable (barely), but I wouldn't have missed anything in my life by not watching this one. Definitely not a keeper.

Recycled Dribble
16 October 2021
Basically, it's the first movie without the laughs. Same plot, except now Prince Akeem goes to America to find his illegitimate son in America from his first trip. Although, this is now mainly set in Zamunda. Akeem is now the king as his fathers passing and to find his replacement, overlooks his daughter after finding out he's got a son in America. And so it begins. Basically it's the same script, same characters although this time it's not funny. Same drivel Hollywood's cranking out for years with the re-(hash, do, imagined). How about they just image as better movie and script? Now there's a thought.

One Of The Better Nicolas Cage Movies
15 October 2021
I'm not a fan of Nicolous Cage movies. Most are badly acted and boring. This on the other hand I didn't mind. I think mainly because he doesn't mutter a singly word LOL. The films got a bit of a throw back to the late 70's horror movies. Old Nic is a drifter and while driving through the country, gets some flat tyres from road spikes. After being picked up and towed by the local mechanic (as he doesn't speak throughout the movie what did he say??) is informed they only take cash (no credit cards). So in order to "pay his debt", the local Mayor offers him a job cleaning Willy's Wonderland amusement for the grand re-opening. Nic takes his six-pack of energy drinks inside to get started. During the night however, he encounters various demonic presences which he'll need to sort out while doing his job. Un-phased by what's going, he changes empyee shirts and continues to do what he's been paid to do - clean Willy Wonderland. Some good gore, not too slow and a few funny moments. I actually enjoyed this one.

Pretty Out There, The Kid Needs His Head Chopped Off
15 October 2021
I'd seen a preview of this on YT. I like post apocalyptic stories (Mad Max etc), guitars and ninja movies. This is all that rolled up into one! The story is about a sword wielding guitar playing rocker (Buddy) trying to get to New Vegas to become the new King. It's set in a post apocalyptic world (very much mad max 2 style, but without all the car crashes). Along the way, a kid latches on to Buddy and helps him along his journey (even though buddy doesn't want help). The acting is pretty bad (as you'd expect from a B film). There's a few laughs throughout, but mainly because of the bad acting. The kid is REALLY annoying with his whingeing and whining. Why buddy didn't cut his fricken annoying head off is beyond me. I would have given the film 10/10 just for that!

Wasn't Sure What To Expect But It Entertained
16 March 2021
Yeah, if you're thinking about Police Academy Bobcat you're in for a shock. I think people look too much into TV shows more than they should. Yes you could draw some comparisons to politic agenda's if you want. Personally I just took it as 8 fun stories of old and Bobcats take on them. Basically it's 8 short stories similar to what you'd watch on late night TV in the 80's - bad acting, dated sets and clothes. And that's the appeal for me. The stories/takes are Roger Rabbit, 80's Werewolves/vampires, a Mockumentary (albeit no one stands up to Spinal Tap), The Goonies and more. The extra's at the end of each episode are also fun to watch. Did it entertain me? Damn right it did. I laughed through most of it. So if you like silly late night 80's TV shows like Creepshow, Elivira etc and don't think too much into it, I'm sure you will enjoy. Shame there wasn't a second season.

Takes A While To Get Going
20 August 2020
While the concept is quite compelling, the first season took a while to get going for me. It just seemed to be looping and small changes here and there and doesn't really pull you in from the start. With my leg out of action for a few days, I started again at Ep5. From there it took off. And by episode 8 I was hooked. Still catching up with season 2+3. So give it a go

2h 1min I'll Never Get Back
9 December 2018
You know those movies - not much happens in the first 20 or so minutes. You want to switch it off but keep going because SOMETHING has to happen. Well it does - you fall asleep. How this movie even has a rating above 2 is beyond me. Driveling dialogue, a very bare story plot and basically you name an 80's horror movie and there was some screen shot or dialogue ripped off from it. The only thing that was generally amusing was the chainsaw fight. I found myself flicking through 50% of the movie. And this is a prime example of why you'd download a movie - and then just as quickly delete it. Actually skip it and don't even with bother. There's plenty of good 80's flicks, produced on a tiny budget that would bury this garbage. Let's hope Mandy stays dead.

A Must See For Rock Fans & Bands
12 August 2017
While I was never a big fan of Twisted Sister as they didn't get the exposure here in Australia (as will attest in the movie), this is a must see for anyone who loves rock and metal music. The struggles of bands at the time and how they were making more money playing gigs than record sales (this also happened with several Aussie bands as well). Never given anything, always earning and a great fan following. The best thing about this (for upcoming bands) is how record companies ignored them for years, despite the fact they sold out shows, despite the fact they had a huge fan base, despite the fact they were the real deal. No wonder the record companies are doing it tough these days as they never change their ways. Twisted sister did it all themselves, on their terms - something record companies don't like - they like yes ignorant bands - this is one thing Twisted Sister never were - and thank f*** for that!
