Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984)
Great Book, but...
In my opinion, the movie only works, if at all, if you have
read the book. The film gives practically no exposition, it does not manage to transfer at any second the oppression with which Winston and the people of Ocenia are systematically deprived of the joy of life. The film jumps from one scene to another without explaining anything. Telescreens don't really seem threatening, neither are children being portrayed as dangerous spies. The film doesn't allow you to feel sympathy for Winston or Julia. I am a big fan of the book, I have read the book three or four times. It is fascinating every time, unfortunately the movie does not manage to make me feel the same way. A 4/10 for good acting and setting.
East of Eden (1955)
Not for you if you have read the book
I've Read the book, it's great. But i don't think the story in the movie works, even if you haven't read the book.
