Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes (2022)
Evil personified
I watch crime documentaries a lot. This one really did get to me. Maybe as I have a teenage son. The way this perverted psychopath treated those poor boys, who had never done anything to him, he tortured them, they died horribly at his hands then he discarded their bodies like pieces of rubbish. I can't help but think if the police had done their jobs properly and more victims have come forward then many victims may have been spared. It seemed he continued to kill simply because he could and the body count went up.
In the tapes hearing him made my skin crawl, he sounded like he was talking about something trivial, having a chat, laughing in parts, he showed no regret or compassion for his victims or their families. Rob Piest was a normal 15 year old boy, who Gacy manipulated by mouthing off within earshot, about how he paid boys double what rob was getting in his current job. This lead to rob after his shift, asking his mum (who's birthday it was) to wait before taking him home as he was "going to speak to a guy about a job" if only he had gone home with his mother sadly he never returned, according to Gacy, Rob asked him about a job, Gacy said he was too busy and rob basically invited himself into Gacys car to talk more whilst driving. I'm sure not many people believe this version and that's the thing how much of what Gacy says is ever the truth?
When Gacy asked what would he do for money, poor Rob answered he was not afraid of hard work, I guess the handcuff trick took place he then told the boy he was going to rape him and described Robs final moments where he had the rope around his neck and was crying and frightened, the phone rang Gacy stepped away and when he came back Rob was dead. He had died of asphyxiation after having paper towels shoved down his throat (discovered after body was found) he died horribly, alone and scared - this was someone's child. They all were. Rob came from a loving family who reported him missing, his best friend had put a receipt in his pocket which turned up at Gacys house and eventually Gacy was caught due to this.
Survivors told their stories, they are lucky to be alive, even after all these years you can feel the emotion in their voices can tell the trauma of what they went through still affects them to this day. Gacy purposely chose boys who had a naivety about them and were slight in build, for him it was all about controlling that person. He thought he was so clever, could pull the wool over the police eyes and believed he could even outwit the legal system by going into detail of his crimes and pleading insane (you can't treat a psychopath it's in their personality) when that didn't work he then said he killed no one and was an accomplice to some of his workers who lived with him, helping them to hide bodies. He appealed using this and each time his appeals were rejected.
I still don't know what makes a psychopath, ok he was bullied in school for being overweight, was often I'll as a child, his dad belittled him verbally and was physically abusive to him and was an alcoholic. However he did have good relationships with his sisters and his mother and still looked up to and respected his father. Others have been through worse and haven't turned out as he did.
For me it's all about the victims, and part 3 definitely touched on this, was very sad.
He was an evil twisted sexual predator and quite frankly death by injection was too good for him.
What/If (2019)
Entertaining
I enjoyed this series to be honest I thought Jane Levy was a bit weak as lead roles and her voice was a bit whiny but i was mesmerized by Renee Zelweger...she does look different from her younger days although I'm not sure how or what it is and for her age has an amazing body looks great and she plays this part well. There are twists and turns which keeps you guessing and it's definitely binge worthy - its not the best series out there but it's definitely worth watching
Jane the Virgin (2014)
Did enjoy it but..
I'll admit the title wasn't very appealing and so I always skipped it on Netflix - one day I needed to watch something lighthearted and away from all the usual crime and murder documentaries and series, thrillers, zombies and superheroes fighting crime so i decided to give this a go and I was not disappointed, it was just what I was looking for set in beautiful locations, with beautiful actors, was fresh and funny and entertaining...for the first few seasons.
From season 3 it goes downhill the main plot just goes round and round again and the side storylines get a bit too out there, sometimes i was even confused what was going on and Jane just isn't as likeable as she once was and has become almost annoying.
Black Summer (2019)
Meh...
Firstly I'll say I don't like twd as too much long winded drama between the characters like a soap opera I like ZNation due to the humour involved and the characters are likeable
This ok...i can't believe a mother would chose staying with her husband over going with her daughter knowing he was injured and there was a good chance he wouldn't make it anyways, and that's the 1st episode. As characters shoot all over a zombie i find myself shouting "head shot" at the t.v. no one picks up any weapons at all despite this being the beginning of the apocalypse no vehicles seem to have gas and aren't even tried one that is tried (key conveniently in sun visor) doesn't start! A character goes into a supermarket which is well stocked up im sure looting would be one of the first things to happen and he casually walks up and down the aisles putting shreddies and beer in his trolley, after 2 mins previously being hounded by a crazed zombie a dog walks by and completely ignored him...and the point of that is?? A group of survivors want to have sex and party dancing to dance music? There's a group of psychotic children in a school. The group of survivors we follow are traumatised exhausted hungry and thirsty trying to get to safety and find family - so what's with the children and clubbers? Have they not lost families too? the children act like they have been brought up fending from themselves when weeks earlier they probably lived in nice homes with loving parents but they have suddenly become savages! And the end is so predictable my partner watched it all before me I guessed the end and he confirmed i was right YAWN. I guess it's watchable and it's ok to fill the time.
Isn't It Romantic (2019)
Love it
Me and my daughter love this movie and have watched it a few times now and haven't got bored...has a great cast and it's good to see a bigger girl being the lead role. It's funny lighthearted and entertaining throughout. Also I love the soundtrack and the dance scenes (isnt it s trange how everyone knew the choreography? lol) and it has a good message "if you don't love yourself how can you love anyone else...and how will you notice them loving you"
The Week Of (2018)
Light hearted movie which isn't bad
I came across this by chance looking for something light hearted I quite enjoyed it..It's not the best movie in the world but it's definitely watchable amusing relatable and cringey at parts
The Apartment (2012)
Not bad but not great either
Contestants were likeable enough with a few sob stories thrown in the usual on reality shows...lawrence llewyn bowen when he was on "that show" in the 90s where they designed/decorated rooms for normal people I'm sure the people always hoped it would not be him and he offended so many reducing them to tears due to what he did to their rooms so who is he to judge interior design? A Judging by his clothes he still has no taste I watched hoping to get some tips as was imagining they were on a tight bugdet but no they got approx £5,500 to do a bedroom and a joiner at their beck and call! That's not real life! And why malaysia, "I've got a good idea we will go to Malaysia and do an English speaking show about interior design" Why? The start up music and poses are cheesy. One min the room was an absolute mess then "10mins left" and viola it was suddenly complete on time. Some of the rooms were lovely but it was a bit rushed on how they got there. It's entertaining I suppose if there's nothing else to watch
Broken (2017)
A great British drama hope for a season 2
I binge watched this series on Netflix and it did not disappoint...it was deep, gritty and very real life the acting was excellent, but it was also very depressing if you want to watch something light hearted or to cheer you up then this isn't for you it shows how bad some people's lives can get, we all go through crisis in life. I like Sean Bean as an actor but haven't seen much of his recent stuff and I was amazed at how old he now looks. I can't imagine being a priest is an easy role to play but he pulled it off. It's also a sign of the times every time he conducted a mas / service there were only a handful of people in attendance, but when it was time for children to do their first communion the place was packed out which shows how hypocritical people are in the Catholic religion. He had so many deep personal issues of his congregation to deal with which he did try his best and was at times fighting a losing battle, he also had a few past personal memories which haunted him, which we all have to different degrees, he's very down to earth and human not like some priests. I thought it was a great drama and I hope they make a series 2.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
Love it
Excellent acting....excellent characters....excellent setting...excellent storyline's doesn't drag on with loads of fillers like some series do can be violent but it's not over the top gore it's one of those shows that leaves you disappointed when you know you have watched the last episode of the series and need to wait a while for the next!
Bird Box (2018)
A bit over-hyped
Acting was excellent especially the child actors was a shame Sarah Paulson was killed off so quickly love her in AHS the whole movie plot did lack explanation. What caused the end of the world exactly - supernatural forces? aliens? virus? What? There is no back story of the characters or bad thing we meet the.main character get a snippit of information - one min the world was fine...then suddenly it was not there was no work up to it really...literally the world ended in minutes by some unknown entity that no one seen coming. Then there's the clichés - a group of survivors gather in a house which they make safe blocking up windows etc and then they discover they need to venture out into the danger for supplies they argue over who goes and who stays, someone doesn't make it back...a couple take the vehicle and flee without telling the others...someone lets someone dodgy in and they all argue among themselves whether to trust the new person or to let them be a part of the group...point a gun at each other...overpower anyone that disagrees with the group and lock them up...a member of the group turns on them all so the majority of the group don't make it...those left must make it through all the dangers to make it to a safe compound with other survivors that suddenly after many years a voice just appears on the radio with details on how to get there, again someone doesn't make it sacrificing themselves so the others can go on. Yawn! And what's with these people who look like humans may even be human with mad coloured eyes that promote looking at the bad thing and go out their way to make survivors look, killing them in the process even though those that see whatever they see then kill themselves for some reason. Who knows what and why? How come only at the end of the movie do we find the entity can actually taunt the survivors in voices of people from the past? At least it had a happy ending for the children and Sandra I was glad everything they went through was not in vain. It's watchable and it's OK.
You (2018)
So So
It starts off like its going to be good but Characters are annoying and unlikeable -plot is unbelievable...Joe is an absolute freak did I feel for him...no! However I didn't like Beck either she is so shallow sleeps with everyone - a guy who users her for sex, a random guy at a bar, Joe, then the married therapist does this girl have no morals? Her friends are also shallow, but she doesnt deserve to meet Joe! Joe stalks her in plain sight yeah wearing a hat with your collar up makes you unrecognisable to those that know you well! Openly standing across the street staring up at her windows all the time so obvious to anyone that sees him, he masterbates in public and he randomly attacks and kills people close to her, never any witnesses, leaves no clues, disposes of bosies, DNA everywhere etc the "luckiest" killer ever. He creeps me out which is maybe what is intended I'm unsure, I wanted him to be caught as there was a kind of smugness I got from him especially keeping the trophies. I'm also not sure why everyone compares it to dexter I loved dexter it was so complex and much deeper than this. I also enjoyed gossip girl although Penn was not my favourite character in that and yeah I was disappointed in gossip girl reveal ending! Despite me saying all this it is not a terrible series (although it did drag on a bit in parts) and it was somewhat entertaining. Maybe the book is better I will give that a go.
