Pretty Good Anthology Series
7 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This sci-fi/horror anthology series went from the mid 90's to early 00's. It's based on the short-lived, 60's series and sort of similar to "The Twilight Zone" with narration at the intro and end of each segment. Chris Sarandon, Beau Bridges, John Heard and Bruce Davison are among actors who appear. Some of the special/visual effects are a bit dated but they work and the series mostly focuses on sci-fi/technological aspects. I watched this recently for the first time and it's actually pretty good. If you're a fan of anthologies, sci-fi or horror in general, definitely give this a view at least once.

Not Bad Horror Anthology Series
28 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This horror anthology series ran for 2 seasons and features a mixed bag of eerie tales. Legendary Directors, John Carpenter (Halloween), Mick Garris (The Stand), Joe Dante (The Howling), Dario Argento (Suspiria) and Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) are among some providing them. I watched this recently and it's not bad, but there were a few tales that were either too disturbing or just not that good. Carpenter's "Cigarette Burns" is definitely one of the best and most memorable featuring Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Udo Kier (Blade). If you like horror or horror anthologies, give this a view at least once.

More Gorier And Ridiculous
11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 2022 horror sequel picks up where the original ended with Art, the silent, murderous clown (David Howard Thornton) still alive after delivering carnage. A year later, he brings more bloody mayhem when targeting artistic teenager, Sienna (Lauren Lavera), her family and friends on Halloween night with the help of an evil clown entity. In my opinion, this is more gorier and ridiculous, but Thornton is great as well as the gruesome make-up effects. The lovely, Lavera also does a decent job and if you liked the original or are a fan of horror/slasher flicks in general, give this a view at least once.

Somewhat Satisfying Finale
15 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 2022 horror sequel stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell, Will Patton and James Jude Courtney. This installment takes place 4 years after the previous film where Laurie (Curtis) and Allyson (Matichak) are trying to move on with their lives in Haddonfield. Soon, we meet troubled teen, Corey Cunningham (Campbell) who not only meets Allyson, but encounters Michael Myers aka "The Shape" (Courtney) who possesses him. Once again, Laurie tries to protect Allyson and herself from evil. Patton returns as Frank Hawkins, Kyle Richards returns briefly as Lindsay Wallace and original Michael Myers, Nick Castle makes a quick cameo. This is a somewhat satisfying finale which obviously has a "Christine" vibe, but still improves upon the previous film in my opinion.

Not That Bad
27 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1972 horror film features a group of friends who are theatre arts students/actors traveling to an abandoned island to perform a satanic rite. They try raising the dead at a graveyard thinking it's all a hoax, but get more than they bargained for when they actually become attacked by zombies. This isn't that bad, there's an eerie atmosphere and pretty good make-up effects provided by the lead actor/writer. The film starts a bit slow with dumb characters and obviously follows in the footsteps of "Night of the Living Dead." You could give this a view at least once if you're a fan of zombies or horror in general.

A Bit Disturbing But Not Bad
20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1979 horror film features a mentally disturbed, young man, Donny (Dan Grimaldi) who witnesses a fiery accident at work. Soon, he goes into a homicidal rage when his abusive, mother passes suddenly. She burned him as a child as punishment which triggers him to murder women by setting them ablaze with a flamethrower. He believes it will stop his mother's hold on him. This is a bit disturbing, but not bad except for some acting and obviously inspired by "Psycho." It also has a similar formula as "Maniac." You could give this a view at least once if you like psychological horror or thriller flicks.

Pretty Good Prequel
5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 2022 horror-thriller stars Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland and Isabelle Fuhrman. This takes place a few years before the events of the original where we meet young, intelligent girl, Leena (Fuhrman) who escapes from an asylum and poses as a wealthy couple's missing child, Esther. Stiles (Save the Last Dance) plays Tricia, her new mother and Sutherland plays her new father, Allen whom is an artist. Both, discover that Esther is not at all whom she appears to be. This is pretty good, but the original is a bit better in my opinion and Fuhrman is great in it. Fans of horror or thrillers should give this a view at least once.

Good, Suspenseful Flick
5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 2009 horror-thriller stars Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard and Isabelle Fuhrman. Farmiga (Bates Motel, The Conjuring) plays Kate, a woman who has recently suffered a miscarriage with her husband, John (Sarsgaard). They have 2 other children, but decide to adopt a smart, artistic, young girl, Esther (Fuhrman) whom Kate soon discovers is not all she appears to be. I just seen the prequel before watching this. It's a good, suspenseful flick a bit similar to "The Good Son" and Farmiga & Fuhrman are both great in it, especially Fuhrman. If you like horror or thrillers, definitely check this out at least once.

Not Bad 70's Horror Anthology Flick
17 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1978 horror anthology film features a cheating husband who winds up on the wrong side of town and is invited inside by an odd mortician revealing the eerie fates of his latest customers. This isn't a bad 70's flick that obviously follows in the footsteps of "Tales from the Crypt." Fans of horror or horror anthologies should check this out at least once.

Bizarre Yet Amusing 80's Flick
15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1985 sci-fi comedy features Jim Varney (The "Ernest" films) headlining as the title character with a hand growing out of his head who wants to punish the world starting with it's economy and undergoes a few disguises in the process. I just watched this for the first time and it's bizarre yet amusing. Varney is great in it as usual and does appear as Ernest P. Worrell , but only briefly. The film feels like a pre "Mystery Science Theater 3000" and cheesy 80's music video mixed together.

Give this a try.

Not Bad 90's Comedy Thriller
11 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1992 comedy thriller stars Bill Paxton and Marshall Bell.

Paxton (True Lies) plays Graham, a businessman who moves into a new home and becomes haunted by a vagrant (Bell) residing across the street. Graham suspects he's dangerous and begins having nightmares/hallucinations of him which causes him to question his own sanity. This isn't a bad flick with amusing and cringeworthy moments, Paxton is good in it and there's grotesque make-up effects for Bell's character. Give this one a view at least once.

Predator Becomes Prey
8 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 2022 sci-fi action prequel takes place 300 years prior to the 1987 classic "Predator" where we meet Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young, female warrior who finds herself battling a mysterious alien hunting for sport. I enjoyed this, it has obvious nods to the other films, nice settings and Midthunder plays a good part. Fans of the original or sequels should check this out.

Not Bad
5 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1989 horror film is basically a modern day "Phantom of the Opera" featuring a badly, disfigured teen, Eric hiding in a new shopping mall.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend, Melody and a reporter, Peter investigate his accident while he roams and kills anyone in his way. Aside from some of the acting, this isn't bad. It's a bit similar to the Robert Englund "Phantom" with gruesome make-up effects and a good score. Give this a try if you like horror or revenge flicks.

This 1987 sci-fi/horror film features a group of people terrorized by a vicious, experimental cat while sailing on a yacht. George Kennedy (The Naked Gun), Alex Cord (Airwolf) and Clu Gulager (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2) appear. This is an ok 80's creature feature with some bloody yet cheesy effects and a fairly decent cast. You could give this a try at least once.

Good Comedy-Drama
24 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening star in this 2022 comedy-drama based on a true story.

Cranston (Breaking Bad) plays Jerry, a mild-mannered, retiree who discovers a flaw in the lottery.

He and his wife, Marge (Bening) use his math skills to purchase lots of tickets and start winning, but use the profits to help their small town and friends. Rainn Wilson (The Office) and Michael McKean are also featured. I enjoyed this, Cranston and Bening are great in this and together.

Good Sequel/Follow-up
7 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller star in this 2022 action drama sequel to the 1986 hit, "Top Gun." This installment takes place over 30 years later where Cruise reprises his role as Navy Pilot, Pete Mitchell aka Maverick whom is ordered to instruct a group of young pilots for a dangerous mission with some of his same unpredictable results. Maverick also finds romance with an ex, Penny (Connelly) whom is a bartender, Teller plays Brad Bradshaw aka Rooster whom is son of Goose (Anthony Edwards) from the original plus Ed Harris and Jon Hamm also appear along with Val Kilmer reprising his role as Tom Kazansky aka Iceman. This is a good sequel/follow-up, I had a bit of doubt when I first heard about it, but it was better than expected. Cruise did a nice job and he & the cast are great. If you enjoyed the original, you should check this out.

Bizarre
3 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This horror anthology series features Robert Englund as burned, child killer, Freddy Krueger from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" films conjuring up his own twisted nightmares taking place in the town of Springwood. This is bizarre, it has a "Tales from the Crypt" vibe, I agree that the acting is bad most of the time, but Englund is entertaining as Freddy and the series also features younger stars like Brad Pitt and Mariska Hargitay.

I'd still check this out if you are a fan of Freddy, the films or horror anthologies.

Gruesome Revenge/Horror Flick
31 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 1996 horror film features Corbin Bernsen (Major League) in the title role of successful dentist, Alan Feinstone who learns that his wife, Brooke (Linda Hoffman) is cheating on him which drives him into a homicidal rage interfering with his craft. Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) and Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers) also appear. This is a gruesome revenge/horror flick and Bernsen is great in it. If you enjoy horror or slasher flicks, give this a view and it will probably make you more weary of dentist visits.

Soon, they move to Florida where they stay with their uncle and trouble ensues. Spader (Pretty in Pink) plays Eddie, a teenage bully/thug who starts targeting them with help from his obnoxious pals. Tom Atkins (Halloween III) and Eric Stoltz (Mask) are also featured. This isn't bad, the cast is decent and Spader is a great baddie.

Not Bad, Could've Been Better
26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This 2010 crime thriller stars Sam Riley and Jason Statham based on a 2005 film "13 Tzameti." This focuses on a young man, Vincent who is trying to earn enough money to pay for his ill father's operation. Soon, he overhears a conversation to earn money and steals an envelope belonging to a competitor of a dangerous, Russian Roulette game in which he enrolls.

Statham (Snatch) plays Jasper, a wealthy spectator who bets. Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Gaby Hoffmann (Field of Dreams), Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) and the late, Ben Gazzara (Road House) also appear. This isn't bad, but could've been better mainly because of the finale. It features a pretty decent cast plus suspenseful & dramatic moments.

Not Bad
24 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Chevy Chase, Richard Dreyfuss and Andie MacDowell star in this 2019 comedy. Chase (Fletch, Vacation) plays Al, a retired talent manager who reunites with client/friend, Buddy (Dreyfuss) at a nursing home. Soon, Al persuades Buddy to perform stand-up comedy after 50 years by traveling cross country and going on tour. Al discovers Buddy is sick, but Buddy wants to have one last experience doing what he loves. MacDowell (Groundhog Day) plays Doris, a free-spirited, woman Al finds romance with. This starts off a bit slow, but picks up after, Chase and Dreyfuss do pretty well together and Dreyfuss is great in here. Give this one a try if you like comedy with some heart.
