Whiplash (2014)

Intense performances and a brutal appearance, self-improvement is self-transcendence

It is about the efforts of Andrew Neyman (Miles Teller), a jazz drummer student. This desire is fiercely opposed by his perfectionist, borderline emotionally abusive chief Terence Fletcher (J. K. Simmons).

Counting on small manners and facial tics, Miles Teller is perfectly introverted, yet highly motivated. JK Simmons, on the other hand, unleashes aggression and confidence to perform one of the most terrifying and fascinating cinematic roles I've seen in years.

Adopting this brutal, sarcastic approach, 'Whiplash' takes another generic, bland music-themed movie and turns it into an intense psychological study of the lengths that can go to make his dreams come true, giving him all the curiosity and anxiety. Must see.

Some books should remain just a book

I liked only the flowing text between scenes in the movie. The movie intends to tell a love story but the dialogues and the events that follow each other don't really build up a strong love relationship.
